Jump in the cab on one of the UK’s busiest freight lines in Train Sim World 2: Redwing Line: Lincoln - Peterborough. History The Lincoln - Peterborough line, marketed as the Redwing Line nowadays, was originally built as the Great Northern and Great Eastern joint railway, the current, two-track line follows the same alignment. The section between Peterborough and Spalding closed to passengers in 1970, however it was hastily reopened on the 7 June 1971. The previous halts along the line at various villages have not re-opened as of yet. The current route only features 4 intermediate stops, however it has become a major route for freight traffic originally routed over the ECML, to reduce stress on this highly-frequented passenger route. Stations and length The 54mi 64ch (88.2km) route features six stations at, from north to south, Lincoln Central, Metheringham, Ruskington, Sleaford, Spalding and Peterborough. The line is mostly in the idyllic Midlands countryside, with a few built up areas around Lincoln and where the line joins the ECML at Peterborough. Rolling stock and service patterns Workings on the line are dominated by various GBRf and Freightliner flows, all though a few DB Cargo trains frequent the line. Passenger services are all operated by East Midlands Railway using a motley fleet of DMUs including classes 156, 158 and 170. I live a short car journey away from the line and the variety of traffic you get is good and would love to see this route.
Excellent idea you might need to know 170 158 156 are BSI Couplers equipped DMUs therefore some Services would see them combined. Own TVL if it has Pacer DMU DLC you will get the possibility of having that spawning behind 170 156 158 BSI Couplers.
To be honest it is only a few miles longer than SEHS which is £24.99 and is a few miles shorter than that TGV french route which again is £24.99 so I would see no reason for a higher price.
This route was more intended for freight so I only suggested including one passenger train. It does open potential for lots of DLC depending on response to the route
Thanks for telling me about it. Also consider Class 88 Electro Diesel since you can run OHLE Peterborough Gunthorpe Gunthorpe to Lincoln Diesel. Bonus can do Cathcart Circle ECW SEHS Railtours if NTP is owned. Consider NTP TVL West Cornwall Local 37/5 railtours.
The 88/68 locos would be great in TSW, it’s just DRS don’t run trains on this line regularly, normally it’s just a few ad hoc ballast/engineers working.
I like this suggestion a lot. Not just because what the op posted, mostly because it seems to be realistic for creating. For the rolling stock i could immagine the 170 and 66 with the route. The cl 156 and 158 as separate loco dlc each. Hope Dtg takes a look at this.
Here the 1989 Working Instructions from the Class 156: http://locodocs.co.uk/brmanuals/156-DMMUWorkingInstructions-2-1989.htm Same for the Class 158 (PDF Attached):
Cheers! Interesting read and I’m sure this would be useful for research should the route ever be made
