I am looking for an "official" answer from a DTG team member. I have heard reported instances of it running well to not at all and causing OOM errors and crashes. In some cases it seems to be certain scenarios only, others the game will not run at all. It also seems to be system specific not unlike running TS 2022 on Windows 10. Before I make the jump to W11 I am trying to collect all the information that I can. TS2022 runs well on my current system with an occasional OOM error while doing editing but very seldom while running scenarios. I have had this posted in another topic but it has not been answered as of yet so I posted it here so it will be noticed.
trev123 already filed a ticket and got an answer https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/store-button-in-ts2022.52761/#post-464699
If you look at the game on Steam you have your answer https://store.steampowered.com/app/24010/Train_Simulator_2022/ Recommended for 32-bit: OS: 32- or 64-bit Windows 7 Service Pack 1, 8.1 or 10 Required (Other OS versions and types are not supported) I suspect eventually DTG will make the game compatible with W11.
I guess that is one way to get out of support. Hello this is tech support, what is your OS? Windows 11, sorryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy. Developers have had over 2 years to work on this. Also nothing is said that they are working on this. Cricket noises.
I'm lucky in that MS, in all its glorious wisdom, has deemed my Intel i7 7700k too pathetic for Win11. Huzzah! I need not fear being involuntarily 'upgraded'.
Yes, you might of seen my post about the greyed out store button on TS2022 for me and when I mentioned Windows 11 the support person said know we don't support Windows 11. When I posted this on Steam Danny of Danny's routes was amazed that DTG said that. I wonder if the DTG support person was going by what a route supports on Steam and not actually asking someone more senior than him. Read the specs for Arizona Divide. https://store.steampowered.com/app/...Arizona_Divide_Winslow__Williams_Route_Addon/
Respectfully I don't speak for dtg , i work for them but I'm not allowed to speak on behalf of dtg, and also I actually mentioned I though that it was more likely that Windows 7/10 was the lowest requirement. My actual words , I didn't question it, you replied afterwards saying about Dtg support . As far as I know though anyone still on TS20xx is still using Windows 10. (My home pc is too old for it so I can't even tell you )
The fact that Windows 11 is not officially supported does not mean it won't run under Windows 11. It just means if you are having issues with TS that are related to Windows 11 they cannot offer you support - at the moment. I'm sure this will change in the future. And I don't think there's much issues here, as TS brings its own set of libraries (PhysX, Cuda, OpenAL).
I read that Windows 11 is missing some Windows 10 things. I do not know the details, and you can ask Windows not to upgrade you (they wanted to upgrade my laptop). Funny thing is, the laptop might run eons better with it, as it is very slow now, but what do I know...
I read somewhere that Windows 11 is better optimized for gaming I don't know what they meant by that. There are other settings in Windows 11 that you can adjust for better gaming performance whether they were in Windows 10 I cannot tell you.
Right. It takes the laptop some ten minutes or more to boot now. And when I open an app, it has a good long think about it. Minutes at a time. It can sometimes take half an hour from boot before I can do anything with it. Hence why I tend to leave it running now, because I can just use it in minutes. Keep in mind, this is on Windows 10. But I have to wonder, would Windows 11 really fix it? I'm not sure. I know a BIOS upgrade sped up my PC at one point.
My previous Windows 10 computer used to take quite some time to boot up and if I went out anywhere I would leave it in standby mode. The OS was on an ordinary HD. On my computer that I have now running Windows 11, the OS is on an SSD and takes less than 30 seconds to boot up so turn it off when I go out now.
My PC used to boot into Windows 10 in the blink of an eye. Then I added an additional two memory modules, giving me a total of four modules for 32gb RAM. The computer takes forever to recognize all four sticks, making boots a lengthy affair. Had memory been as cheap then as it is now, I suspect I'd have simply bought two new 16gb modules and stayed with those two sticks alone. Boots would still be super quick in that case, or so I assume. (Before you ask, the two new modules are an exact match to the original modules. I made sure of that.)
My Windows 10 boots in the same time as your Windows 11 as I also have my OS on a SSD If you had put your Windows 10 on an SSD it would have also booted quickly as Win 11 does now
Why? I don't have any issues playing TS2022 on Windows 11 except the greyed-out store screen button which is a very minor issue.
Is it the case that upgrading to Windows 11 is fine but starting fresh will break TS? Or have I read it wrong? I'm looking at buying a new PC and both of the ones I'm looking at both seem to come with Windows 11 and I am not looking forward to having to find a Windows 10 key to play TS.
You do not have to start fresh. My hard drive eventually decided to let out a massive electrical fart (there's an image for ya) and refused to boot one day, so I eventually got a much-needed new HD anyway so I could actually install everything at once and have room to spare..The history of what you've played copies over from the cloud. What doesn't copy is locally saved scenarios. I have to subscribe to my own Workshop content to reacquire it.
I had the same problem. I had to get a new PC after the old one failed completely and it wasn't worth replacing any of the failed components. I opted for Windows 11 and it runs TS2022 and TSW2 with no problems.
It's funny how some people have no problems whatsoever and others do. How is the route editor like on your installation? I have bought the computer and it will come tomorrow, so I will quickly test it on Windows 11 just to see if it works.
I'm running a clean install of windows 11 pro and TS classic, The only problems I've encountered so far are the same problems i had on windows 10. The occasional out of memory error when running large routes. For anyone having problems running on windows 11 could always try running the game in compatibility mode and select windows 10 compatibility mode.
For much less than the price of a new computer a portable drive can store all your non Steam add-ons Then you don't have to go routing on different sites for the DLC you are missing
In case you didn't know, Dtg TS2022 don't support Windows 11. Read the specs for the game. They are going to have too sooner or later "); display: inline-block; height: 24px; width: 24px; margin-top: -1px; transform: rotateZ(-180deg);"> I opted for Windows 11 and it runs TS2022 and TSW2 with no problems
As I understand it the main differences between win 11 and Win 10 are the utilisation and interaction of TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot within the OS. (SB in Windows 10 - can be set to on in the BIOS) Now you can disable (not recommended) both TPM and Secure But if you did win 11 would be virtually the same as Win 10 - TSC wise. (AFAIK the default SB setting is off in both win10/11). The issue for gamers is that if a company like DTG decides that in order for you to play TSC/TSW2 you must use Secure Boot and TPM. Otherwise, the sim won’t start. That would be very unlikely in the case of these 2 sims – but it could happen e.g., “Valorant”.
DTG really need to sort this out. Luckily my PC is fine (for now) but at some point this attitude will bite them in the rear.
