Hi all, I'm sure this was answered in a stream sometime, but in the menu there are 3 options for the fireman. Automatic (self explanatory) assisted and manual. Manual is gonna be added at a later point as far as I know, but what the deal with assisted? Could someone maybe elaborate on which does what? Cheers
From what I remember in the stream it was briefly mentioned that assisted is where you can control the fire and AI does things such as dampers and blower. Although I think this is right it is coming from my rapidly aging brain so could be wrong.
Manual: You have control over when the fireman puts coal on the fire, also control over the blower and dampers Assisted: You have control over the fire only Automatic: You have control over none When people talk about a 'manual fireman' though, they mean also doing the water and (visual) simulation of things like fire mass, basically you do everything the fireman and driver does. The current 'manual' setup, think of it as the driver just telling the fireman to put more coal on, etc.
Boiler water is controlled by the injectors, which (at present) we can't operate. Rest assured, TSW does not model boiler explosions. (Cool as that might be....)
Thanks When I'd choose manual, how do I put coal in the fire and operate the blower and dampers? In the key mappings it just says "Any Key" for me and well we can't change the mappings
Sorry for the very noob questions. In THIS guide written by Matt, he talks about adding coal, and he says that there is a ideal value you should target. How can we monitor the coal mass? How do you know when to add more or leave it to get to that ideal value? If we have no control over the water, what do the valves on the tender do? Is it actually possible to run out of coal or water?
One manual firing is implemented, then the water valves together with the injectors will be things. For now, though, boiler water level is AI controlled, and presumably always optimal.
I discovered that firing doesn't seem to do anything. I was in assisted mode, and never open the firebox. The safeties would still go off.
I think shoveling coal has an effect, but for some reasons seems like the boiler pressure will ever so slightly increase by default. No idea why or how that happens or if it's realistic or not
I hope at some point we can have the option of being the actual fireman instead of driving, would make a nice change. There are times when I can't be bothered driving but just sit back and relax in passenger mode so the option of being a fireman too would be great in future as would of course guard duties but that's for another thread.
