Anyone else having trouble installing the Class 86 EP update? All I get is this... Downloaded it again... same. Raised the issue with AP, but just wondered if I was alone in this or not.
Holy crap. That's a lot. I already have the older versions downloaded and think I'm just going to create a scenario backup archive now. While I do think this is a blatant way to try to force people to buy more products in a way that I do not think they should be employing (and that DTG itself does not employ because they actually respect their customers), it doesn't matter what I say or do anyway because it's clear the majority of their market wants them to do this. I don't understand why they waste their time since, after playing a scenario, I would not go back to it just to take screenshots of other stock, but that's not my business. All they are doing, IMO, is making it harder for newer customers to enjoy the scenarios, that's all. So not crying at all. I have the older installations and may be able to get older scenario copies. We'll see.
You don't have to update them if you don't want to, as we keep telling you, and if you need to update for another reason, you can save the old scenarios first... then just put them back after the update.
I know that. What do you think I want the oldest versions of the scenarios for? Actually considering setting up an archive online. Not published, since Richard would not like that, but I can keep it for myself and link scenarios for others who might need them.
I've always felt that irrespective of what some folks feel towards AP/upsell/prices/whatever, Richard's initial sound packs were what made me want to buy the simulator in 2012 or so. He and his co-conspirators have gone from strength to strength since then. His customer service is decent as well. The lad earns his corn. DTG are good route builders and stock modellers, but I do wonder how many people have been persuaded to buy TS because of AP products/enhancements. I personally found the weather pack a game changer.
No, I mean you can't tell anything through there. Can we stop with this "certain people are anti-AP" thing? It so happens I have a lot of their stuff, mkay? I'm allowed to make comments as a customer, but if I were anti-AP, I wouldn't be compelled to buy some stuff, right?
I replied to your personal message explaining that it was intended as a tongue in cheek commend hence the smiley. The reality is though, you have a history of being negative about AP products. It's kind of a standing joke in here now. I take it as a given that you will be in any AP thread and there will be a comment that is in some way derogatory, even if in this case, it wasn't necessarily about a product. I never put a smiley on a comment that is a serious criticism. Who does? Your anti AP rhetoric has annoyed me in the past. especially when I felt they were unfair, but this is not one of those occasions.
That's fine, but my criticism, as it may be, is mainly related not to how business is conducted, but how he modifies content others have purchased after the sale is completed. This is a valid complaint as a customer, and not something that deserves to be mocked. I have not tried to mock their content other than that besides usual comments by others that a pack might be overpriced, or be missing certain content. So the comment came to me as a huge negative commentary and really bothered me. Take it from someone who jokes about things ALL the time, I have been called out on my jokes because someone else has been hurt before. And your joke actually hurt me. You need to be careful. That's all I want to communicate. Now let's get this thread back on track. Getting derailed a bit here.
Look.. stop sending me personal messages if you're just also going to reply in here... or I'll just copy and paste the personal message in here. The fact is, that you do only post negative comments about AP. If you get offended when someone makes a joke about that, can I suggest you stop doing it? Everyone comments on it... it's true. Just go and read all the AP threads. Reap what you sow. It was a joke. Stop messaging me telling me that I need to "watch what I say". It's ridiculous. If you are offended by anything I say that was clearly not intended as anything but a joke, then I'm sorry, but there's not much I can do about that, and if you expect me to change my entire personality to suit your sensibilities, you are in for a disappointment.
There was no fight. It was a joke. I was laughing, hence the laughing emoji. Calm down. If you don't want a reputation as the guy who slags off AP, stop doing it.
Let's get this conversation back on track, shall we? As a general side-note, please bear in mind it's more difficult to work out tone on written communication, rather than speaking to someone face-to-face, so things can be more easily misinterpreted. If you have personal disagreements, it's a good idea to speak to someone privately, rather than in the pressure-cooker of a public forum.
For my part, as a relatively new AP customer, its impossible to get any scénario working. It would be nice if AP had alternative, stripped down scenarios with only basic content. Actually unless you are a first hour customer or spend a ton of bucks on add ons there is no way to use the privided scenarios..... And seeing them updated with new stuff make them even more distant... Still AP is what makes me coming for more TS...
This is the case for anything except DTG routes. DTG routes sold through Steam will always contain scenarios you can run with that route, but third party scenario makers have to use existing routes and stock for their scenarios, so there will always be a requirement for assets you may not have. There's almost no way AP could make scenarios that would work for everyone, as they still need to rely on routes and assets made by others, or DTG, and if you do not have those assets, you will not be able to run them. Even using only DTG assets, you may still need to buy routes and trains from Steam in order to run them. This is the nature of Train Simulator; almost all third party scenarios will have a list of necessary dependent assets.
A route requirement is mandatory of course, but they come with some stock that are usable as AI. A lot of workshop sceneries come with little to few requirements. I do understand that for advanced sceneries you need a lot of différent assets but still there is room for lighter needs. At least it would be more appeling for newcomers to have such sceneries provided in addition to the advanced ones.
Worth it for me just for the JSA-C's to use on the SWC and Marches, nicely done AP. Though I was (and still am) hoping for Sfhimmns at some point, they are by far the most used freight wagons on the aforementioned lines.
I always wondered what those strange wagons are that come through my station quite often, now I know. Will definately get these, it is sad seeing them in British Steel livery.
If you mean the load, it's called HRCP (hot rolled coil plate). That's what it was known as in British Steel when I worked for them.
There are a number of Shimmns wagons available in the game - I'm not sure what is the difference to a Sfhimmns? https://virtual-railroads.de/gb/freight-cars/280-sns-727.html And these repaints for the Kuju version https://rail-sim.de/forum/filebase/entry/963-shimmns-skin-pack-v-1-2/
The f denotes ferry spec, so the loading gauge is most likely less than the standard EU shimmns variant
Yep those too, I meant to add that to my post but forgot, the important thing TS related is that the Shimmns we have in-game are slightly too wide and look out of place with other British stock, a few D-rings are neither here nor there tbh.
Are there even rail ferries across the channel anymore? And AFAIK the 'f' isn't necessarily needed on freightcars going through the "Chunnel", if they're only going to the yard just beyond the tunnel, as the line there has UIC gauge all the way?
No, but rail ferries exist elsewhere in Europe. There's a rail ferry terminal modelled in DTG's Incelbahn route.
The "f" letter was originally specifically for ferrying to the British Isles, there's little to no need for it elsewhere due to the rest of the European standard gauge network following the UIC gauge - or using a slightly larger gauge (Norway, Sweden, parts of Eastern Europe).
UIC classification of goods wagons - Wikipedia Relevant part: f F,H,I,L,O,S,T,U,Z Great Britain loading gauge, suitable for ferries and channel tunnel ff F,H,I,L,O,S,T,U,Z Great Britain loading gauge, suitable for channel tunnel only fff F,H,I,L,O,S,T,U,Z Great Britain loading gauge, suitable for ferries only
Armstrong Powerhouse is testing the scenario for the next Wagon Wednesday, they have also shown an image with the wagons but they are blurred.
Silver bullet ICA's apparently (I don't know either way, this is just me repeating the popular opinion thus far)
There used to be something like the Silver Bullets in this scenario - not sure which wagons they used https://www.uktrainsim.com/filelib-info.php?form_fileid=38834
