I was wondering if there actually any way to reduce boiler pressure to stop the safety valve going off anytime your not applying power. It just doesn’t seem accurate to rely on the safety valve all the time. Anyone have any ideas?
In real life I'd put the injector on to put some more water in the boiler. That would quieten things down but we can't do that yet.
Reverser set to 75% of direction you'll be driving, combination brakes lever set to 100%, cylinder cocks opened, regulator 100%. After that wait.
I've only seen a handful of steamers at platforms & the Safety valve occasionally goes but not like it does in game! I might try switching fireman from auto to manual/semi & see if you can discouraged them from constantly shoveling coal!
It's ridiculous the safety is the one thing that really bugs me about spirit of steam not only is it deafeningly loud but how much it goes off feels wrong to me but I'm sure later down the line it'll be tweaked more to be more realistic
I’ve tried that. It doesn’t seem to affect the boiler pressure. Setting the blower to maximum brings it down incredibly slowly but it barely makes a difference
Try manual fireman, the AI one is currently an idiot! To stop the boiler pressure rising: Dampers and firebox doors closed and put the blower on full. To raise your boiler pressure: Open the firebox and dampers. Turn off the blower.
Strange that using the blower on full is causing the pressure to fall. In real life that would have exactly the opposite effect. The blower's purpose is to keep the fire burning bright when the locomotive is stationary and there is no exhaust up the chimney to create a draught on the fire.
This has transformed the game for me. It's amazing how much better the sounds are when you don't just hear the safeties blowing off constantly. I've just been setting the dampers 100%, blower off, firebox doors open just before departure, then close the doors after a few rounds of shovelling. Open again for more shovelling if there is a hill coming up. Then just before you shut the regulator before a station stop , close the dampers & but the blower on. Hardly ever blow the safety valves and don't struggle for steam. just got to remember to use the blower for the opposite of reality.
I know, but it works and that AI fireman is not so authentic. (Unless firemen usually load boiler pressure to full to annoy drivers )
