With the recent update to GWE adding in some services with the cement wagons from the Class 31 DLC, it makes me wonder what other routes could have additional services using existing stock from other routes and loco DLCs? For example, I believe that the ICE 3 wouldn't be out of place on RRO and HRR. I am all for more variety in timetable mode (within reason of course).
The class 31 would go on NTP, which I am suprised hasn't had any more layers/DLC as it is too quiet. The class 47 on NTP wouldn't look out of place on TVL, as in 1989 there were still plenty of rail blue class 47's. The three car class 101 on TVL would go well on NTP as Neville Hill had a mixture of two and three car sets in 1983, where as Heaton had no three car sets in 1989.
I'd like to see railtours on all UK routes, and see the Class 33 be able to do railtours services. I'd also like to see a bit more action for the Class 66 on any route.
Railtours don't run on all UK routes. I've never seen a railtour through Gravesend for example. A few go through Chatham (from Victoria mainly), but most don't actually stop in Medway (often going out to Thanet or Canterbury) I'd like to see freight properly represented, but then that would often mean longer routes being required as 40/50 miles for a freight run is probably a bit short
Speaking for germany only, with Joes upgrade for HHL in mind: ICE 3: HRR (bitterly missed), RRO (with a bit of fantasy), MSB (AI only), RSN (AI at Hagen, with a bit of fantasy) 101: HMA (bitterly missed), RRO, maybe RT 363: HMA, HRR, MSB, RRO, RT (again with some fantasy element to it, but not exceptionally wrong) 155: RT (among other freight services) These were the first I could think of..
More shunting activities on all routes (what a surprise, coming from me, eh?) and allow operating all appropriate shunting engines on all possible routes. This would necessarily involve adding freight wagons/cars to otherwise passenger only routes, of course.
Ta-daaaa... https://www.flickr.com/photos/136510631@N08/24615215469/ Fair enough this was a while ago tbh
ICE3 does run on HRR Lines 41 and 42. RRO gets ICE Lines 42 43. For RRO ICE3 uses the Ennepetal route due to it having a steep 3.3% grade on the Koln Hbf via Wuppertal side which causes the 15:50 Petroleum train to lose speed. Here's a video of ICE 3 at Wuppertal Hbf RRO. 363 SKA due to the RE1 Dostos needing to be shunted at Aachen Hbf
Absolutely agree!! DTG please take note, I'm sick of getting bored and only being able to do scenarios for more AI, even if it's for next gen, please increase services and AI. Also,Just a thought ... Perhaps when the dispatcher for TSW2 gets fixed, we could actually get parked in a loop whilst running freight services as it seems that if I choose to go slowly, I am just holding everything behind me until I get to my destination.
With the addition of Cane Creek and Sherman Hill, 2 services that could be modified for Peninsula Corridor are UP2 - Northbound Empty Hoppers and UP3 - Southbound Loaded Hoppers, which are supposed to represent UP's "Dirty Dirt" trains from San Francisco to Utah. Now we don't have the proper hoppers for them yet, but the movement of the local from Pier 96 to SSF, followed by an AC4400CW or SD70ACe taking the train to Warm Springs like IRL, could be added to Peninsula Corridor. This would add some minor switching moves in SSF, and add 3-Axle UP power to the line.
Yeah, pre 2013 because the two running lines are still there... The line that 66 is on is now Platform 1
Nah. Let's get reality working FIRST then work in the other stuff... There's plenty of things that work (or worked) in real life that would make drives more interesting rather than a 66 pulling some old coaches.
Railtours aren't about the Class 66. They're about all the historic locos that can be used as substitution. All the BR Blue locos, and hopefully also the BR Green and steam locos, ideally...
I know what they are, but what they bring is one or two runs on a given day that is a case of "ooh look, an old train" Personally things like dynamic weather, variable timings, proper traction on the routes etc would bring more than that I'm all for variation, but would prefer the basics that do the bulk of the runs so we can get full services on line where they operate without needing fifteen DLC to have said variation
Not just that, they'd bring the possibility to drive these locos on another route, without the hassle of having to create a scenario and having to set up AI traffic manually. (Since this game still lacks any kind of Quick Drive mode like good old TSC does) Personally, I disagree. That's the beauty of personal preferences. Railtours are only a few services, so that hardly prevents a timetable from being busy for those who don't own the DLC. And don't get me started on variation when most of the routes only feature a very select few trains. Only exception are the German routes which all work pretty well with substitution for one another.
I’d love to see class 31 schedules on NTP, but I think the reason they don’t add more schedules is the issue they have with the signalling. If they added more trains it would give more instances of getting incorrect signalling sequences. At the moment (rather feebly…) they avoid the issue by avoiding having 2 trains anywhere near each other! In the mean time, using the mod to run the 31 on the 45/47 passenger schedules, and trying to keep time, is great fun.
Thanks, I will look at the mod. NTP is so quiet if adding some more trains in is going to cause havoc with the signalling then there must be some major problem with the signalling. I do like the route and it is my favourite era but everytime I drive it, I find it boring as there is so little happening and really not that much variety to drive on it compared to what there could be.
The problem is now that Germany is so well built and populated that other than BML every other route is a graveyard at times
I'll definitely echo the points about NTP, that's definitely a route I think needs and brand new scratch-built timetable with 2 and 3 car DMU services, Class 31 hauled short rakes and all the other freight and loco-hauled passenger services. Can I personally commission Joe to make one?
When tsw has finally a class 56 & class 60, teesvalley would be the perfect route for a gameplay dlc for more services, more wagons and more shunting. Tvl has also many unused industrial areas, which were probably still active in the year tsw is set, so dtg could remove the invisible wall of those and activate 2-3 of the industrial areas. Creating more routes is one way to make tsw better & bigger, boost routes with new content and using the already made scenery for enhancing the gameplay experience, is another timesaving way.
This is why I advocate making "the basics" such as freight locos and sprinters etc that can be liberally applied to many routes rather than specialist assets which only get used in one location or route (I'm looking at you pendolinos...) Give us a loco pack with sprinters and an alphaline and it unlocks so many runs outside of London over the last three decades with basically a reskin
I would like to see like a populated time table on every route in the scenario designer. So basically you could just replace the trains with what you would like to see. It would save dtg time and the user time. I found running the lms jubilee from Brighton to victoria to be a right challenge. No where near as challenging as adding all the services you would pass at the time of day! It would be so much better if I could replace say the 17.09 to Vic with the jubilee from the rush hour timetable.
The problem here is how DTG have programmed the stops. For some reason it's tied to the stopping position marker on the ground, and this has a specific requirement for train length, in other words they cannot substitute a 4 car train for a 3 car one (not sure about the other way round). This would mean that if you subbed in your jubilee on the BML and the train length wasn't the same as the one in the scenario it would "cause problems" I agree that there should be a workaround (or even a system of dynamic timetables which get sorted out by the signalling system) but the way Matt's spoken about the signals in the past they're not made to be robust (hence a lot of red light crashes) I guess this is another system that would need to be rebuilt from the ground up to work as it does in real life
What if you was to substitute a 12 car gx with a 10 car jubilee? I thought there was only 1 stop marker. So if you stop on the 8 car marker with a 4 car train it wouldn't make any difference. As long as you stop on the marker it will complete that task?
As I said, not sure on the other way round. Matt / DTG would be better to comment on that but given they haven't implemented it I would say they're either not looking at it or looking at another solution (and not telling us about it) Nope, not IRL and not in game either. On many UK platforms there is an S marker at the end of the platform, but on ones where the exit is "at the entry side" you could have 2,3,4,5,6,8,10,HST etc markers, even off the end of the platform itself (there are some of these on West Cornwall already I believe) Certainly in game the markers are "moved" to allow for larger trains, I'm thinking the ones where you haul a 101 with a 31 so there are 4 blob markers rather than 3. I imagine when they're setting up the timetable the stops are something that is specified rather than being driven by the train and the station It seems that very little in TSW is dynamic or flexible like that
Sorry I explained that wrong. I know there's more than one stop marker on a platform. I mean the instruction stop marker. So your pulling into the platform (tsw) and your instructed to stop on the marker (on the ground) within so many yards. So I'm instructed to stop at say the 8 car marker, now I'm in a 4 car train. The back of my train is within the platform boundary, I.e not blocking any junctions outside of the station. I can't see where there's gonna be any problems arising from it?
The only thing I can think of is that the "passenger boarding" instruction set is written in "too specific a manner" which requires all of the stop blobs (for want of a better phrase) to be occupied rather than it being like the "stop marker" where it only looks for any part of the loco / MU to be stopped within a set distance of that marker (as evidenced by the pres crew increasing this on GWE recently from 2m to 5m) For me, I would say it should be sufficient that ANY part of the train being in the platform counts as a stop and the remainder is irrelevant, but from what Matt has said, train length DOES make a difference (no euphemisms intended)
I see. So It would cause problems with passenger loading or something along those lines. There's some substitution mods available. I've tried a few, but I guess a 4 car has been substituted with a 4 car and so on.... I managed to get hold of the unofficial editor. I'm gonna have a play around with it later. Give this substitution a go.
So my knowledge of the line isn't great but could a 313 in Silverlink or London Overground (I think just debranded Silverlink?) livery be introduced into the new Bakerloo timetable between Harrow & Wealdstone and Queen's Park? I know they haven't been there for a while now having been replaced in 2010 but the route itself feels like it you could do a backdated timetable without anything being too out of place. It would be good to see LO services to add some variety to the line although I'm already looking forward to the new timetable anyway. Any idea when it's due on that note?
We are too constricted with what we can do and scenario planner is hardly a gateway to allow us to use the stock we have bought how we want. This for me is the biggest problem with TSW. I agree with a suggestion above, if we could substitute consists in the timetable for our own it would be a boon, for example if I want to run a class 31 and three BG's on a parcels train on NTP. However, it seems that it is never going to happen, well not in this iteration of the sim. Which is one of the main reasons why for me, TSC remains a much more attractive proposition.
One on my wishlist right now is a steam railtour. From Victoria to Brighton then Brighton to Hastings as far as Eastbourne. A friend of mine mentioned going on one some time ago. He said it went along the coast then back to victoria via the Chatham mainline.
