Hey guys, I've been experimenting with some new water textures and their associated texture materials and I'm quite pleased with the results. I did a quick test on ECW to see how it looks. As you can see, there is a brand new clear, blue water colour and reflections effect. The tiling is a lot less obvious, too. Below shows images of the before and after comparisons. Let me know what you think
wow what a difference it makes, although (and Im playing devils advocate here) it would look odd in anything but the clearest days perhaps, doubt the sea would look that still in a rain storm for example
Looks amazing, ECW has some of the worst looking water in the game, so would love to see a mod to improve it!
Rochester before and after. It seems not every route is equipped with a water texture, so I cannot apply this change to routes without one.
I've also been experimenting with this on SOS, it hasn't been as simple as I wanted it to be though. A lot of faffing around with textures with some free Water Materials on the Unreal Asset Store (which all suck), finally managed to get somewhere by installing a Normal Map plugin for Paint.Net, now I can properly experiment around with different textures to see what results I'll get
You, Sir londonmidland ,are a genius! Like the skybox mod, the difference is like day and night Respect!
Wonderful still, placid water; but the ocean is almost never still or placid. Can you do anything with waves?
The water looks absolutely amazing!!! Just like with the skybox, hopefully, we can see these changes get added to TSW2 at some point.
It baffles me that modders with less resources can do things that dtg don't do. The water is a massive improvement
I haven’t noticed any performance issues with it, personally. If there are any, it would be extremely minimal I would’ve thought.
I can change it on a route by route basis (the routes which actually allow me to) but this of course applies to ALL water within the route, so I have to make a balance.
It looks good for a still day londonmidland What would happen if the water had animated waves like WCL - will this still work?
It looks nice, but it we would loose the feel of a bit wild water, which can be more natural, depending on circumstances. Also, what happens if there is more wind? I like the idea, water is difficult but maybe it requires more logic than just a texture change.
I think DTG should employ your tactics or at least be part of Adam’s team (Adam’s team need to be the main builder for routes inmho, a corker they did for GWE)
londonmidland would love to see how it works for DRA and DCZ! But I guess, you don't own the routes, right?
This is amazing. DTG might as well have a red phone to your house* because these are some spectacular updates. Finally TSW can have better water than TS, which was one of the most embarrassing shortcomings. *Reference to the direct phone line between Russia and the USA during the cold war; I only explain this because it's a bit of an obscure reference. No offence if you already got it.
