So I want to install a custom livery from rail-sim.de for the EuroDual. I followed the readme instructions for e.g. this livery https://rail-sim.de/forum/filebase/entry/7739-ebs-159-227/ , which said: 1) Install the EBS 159 227.rwp with Utilities.exe 2) Copy the "Calvin9201 EBS 159 227 GeoPcDx Installer.bat” to the /Railworks/Assets folder and execute it The first file cannot be installed as the Utilities tool gives me this error: https://forums.dovetailgames.com/th...p-file-in-utilites-gives-me-this-error.41025/ . The advice in that thread (and another thread I found on this issue) said to manually copy the file to the RailWorks folder, which I did (copied it to \RailWorks\Assets\RSSLO\EuroDual\RailVehicles), before also copying the .bat file to the Assets folder and running it. Then I cleared cache, restarted the sim, logged into the RSSLO Linz-Passau scenario that the EuroDual is provided for, but the loco still has the ECCO Rail livery it comes with default. Am I missing something? I tried this with both 32-bit and 64-bit versions, and also tried removing the file named '159 227' from the \RailVehicles folder after copying the custom livery file there. Neither of these did anthing, and I can't think of what else I can attempt.
I do. - We are not just players of UK Railways When I install a new DLC or Repaint I will test it first before going to a scenario and being disappointed it did not work. So I create a separate Free Roam on the Test Track and try out the DLC. Having downloaded the repaint file I first use 7Zip > Extract to (Filename) That creates a folder - in this case called EBS 159 227 and has the RWP file and the BAT file. Then I then use 7Zip > Extract here Which gives me the Asset folder. I drop that in to my Railworks Folder and also copy the installer and run that. In your RSSLO folder you should have a file called 159 227 If you delete it than you have just deleted the reskin. Your folder in Assets would look like this - depending how many you have installed Open the 159 227 folder to see if the EuroDual_EccoRail.GeoPcDx file has been copied across by the BAT file - otherwise do it manually Place the loco on a bit of track in Free Roam to see if it works Peter
I copied the Assets folder from the RWP file into the RailWorks folder. There are two issues I encountered after that: 1) when I copy the Code: Calvin9201 EBS 159 227 GeoPcDx Installer.bat file to the Code: RailWorks\Assets\RSSLO\EuroDual\RailVehicles\159 227 folder and then run it, the execution terminal window it runs says Code: The system cannot find the path specified 2) This is what my Free Roam tab is like, with no loco selection available:
Yeah, that's why I said "probably". I'm also not only playing North American routes. There's actually some quite good freeware on RWAustria, I've leeched everything and got Felberpass to run finally (+AP weather). For it being one of the first freeware routes made for RailWorks, it is of astonishing quality. Check the night drives, Lustenau looks awesome at night. Shame the author AbsolutezChaos withdrew the V2 version because of some trouble concerning assets.
You'll have to create a Freeroam scenario yourself if there's none available. This is the easiest thing to do, just check for tutorials. It's just placing stock where you want to, and attaching drivers.
You can free roam with just an engine, useful to find your way around e.g. “Where does that spur go?”
You copy the Calvin9201 EBS 159 227 GeoPcDx Installer.bat to the Assets folder not the RSSLO folder. Run it from there and it works
The first thing I do on each new route acquired. Simple "Stevens Pass: Scenic Inspection Tour" style consist to go explore the route in Freeroam.
Thank you - I remembered it worked in past attempts but could not tell what the difference was, now I know. I don't think this would have fixed the issue as I successfully managed this previously without any effect on the livery not appearing, but I will check, and I will also find guides for creating Free Roam scenarios.
A basic question: when installing a downloaded livery, is it supposed to replace the default one in official Career scenarios as well, or does it only appear as an additional version of the loco for Free Roam/custom scenarios?
Thank you for the hint. How is the swap done? Do I need to do something in the editor? I ran the new scenario creator yesterday but could not find the EuroDual in the list of assets to place it down. Will attempt again today, maybe I was in the wrong assets list - the menus are not very intuitive for navigation.
The loco is in RSSLO > Euro Dual Just try placing the loco on a piece of track - Free Roam - like this For the Euro Dual chose RSSLO then Euro-Dual On the left under locos you can see which are available to place on the track - depending on what you installed. The Repaints don't remove the default loco but just add additional loco(s)
The easy way to swap - load the scenario. Select world Editor and click on the loco shape in the top left flyout. Then place on a track near to the “scenario” loco which has the driver symbol above it the replacement. Then click on the driver symbol and transfer it to the replacement. Then click on and delete the “scenario” loco. Then click on and move the replacement into where the “scenario” loco was. Alternatively you can use TS tools, a free software which once “mastered” is very useful anyway or Locoswap which is also free but personally I find less useful. Try it and once you have the knack you won’t look back.
I finally made progress - managed to find the loco with installed repaint and place it on the track. So this worked with a new scenario, but when I try to edit the existing Career scenario where I want to replace the default loco (by going into Build, navigating to the scenario I want to edit, and clicking Clone or Edit), while loading into the editor the sim crashes and I get the '0xC0000005 Out of Memory' error message like the one this user reported here on the forums: https://is.gd/2gT73a . This happens with both 32 and 64-bit versions. In that thread they later said they had fixed it by increasing paging file. I went to Windows settings, disabled automatic paging file and manually set it to 2x-4x the size of my physical ram (the latter being 32GB), but I still get the error. I also verified TSC files from Steam to make sure I was not missing anything, as suggested in replies to this issue.
Have a look at LocoSwap - a very easy to use program for replacing what you don't own with what you do. https://rail-sim.de/forum/filebase/entry/5860-locoswap-fahrzeuge-einfacher-tauschen/ Readme is in German and English
Thank you, this finally allowed me to replace the loco. However, after loading into the Career scenario I got these error messages: I pressed F2 to bypass this, and then while waiting for the signal to clear, pressed 9 to check the map, and got the same error as in my previous post. I tried this twice and both times it happened when opening the map, so it should be caused by that specifically. Is there something I can do to fix both of these messages, or are they unrelated? I have two other repaints for this loco, will install them and try to use those for replacement and see if the errors are still there. Installed another repaint, cleared cache, reset the default loco in the scenario, replaced it with the newly installed repaint. Same error message/crash.
I only made the loco swap in the scenario as outlined in LocoSwap. But I just ran a different scenario from a different DLC, and got the same errors and a crash. I guess something in the sim installation has gone wrong. Working to see what it may be. Update: I uninstalled the sim, deleted residual files, and installed it again - this was the only way to fix the issue. Not sure if I want to start a new round of loco swapping and potentially get to the same point again. Thanks to everyone who offered hints and let me know about the useful apps in this thread. If I get around to attempting it again and succeed, I will post here so that people who may attempt the same in the future have that information.
