Vegetation Growing On Approach

Discussion in 'TSW General Discussion' started by dangerousdave, Jul 8, 2022.

  1. This has always been the most annoying thing for me on tsw. Where the vegetation literally grows right in front of you.

    Does anybody know what this is called and is there a way to disable it or atleast change the distance?

    Thanks.

    If we're thinking of the same thing, it's caused by TSW's terrible draw distance. I'm not sure if there is a draw distance setting but if there is you could try to mess around with it. Otherwise there is no way to fix it.

    Engine.ini tweaks can certainly reduce it, even if they don't make it go away altogether.

    If you have the machine for it, navigate to C:\Users\your_username\Documents\My Games\TrainSimWorld2\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor and open the Engine.ini file in the notepad.

    Scroll down and add the line foliage."LODDistanceScale=X", where X is a number multiplier for the LOD switch distance. Experiment with it to find the ideal value, but keep the number low.
    Below is the paste of my setting that make TSW2 look much better and still get good framerate.

    [SystemSettings]
    r.ViewDistanceScale=3
    foliage.LODDistanceScale=5

    Oh I agree that's so annoying. Once you see it there's no way to unsee it...

  7. Thanks for the replies. Yes it is rather annoying. More so that I'm starting to notice this effect on other titles now whereas I didn't before tsw.

    I've made a few ini tweaks already, level of detail and draw distance are at the highest. The only problem now is this vegetation growing and the rendering of trees.

    I've not noticed material quality setting though. I'll give that a try.

    Thanks.

    It's often called pop-in.

    Well, this is more like a grow-in. Pop-in would be sudden, out of nothing.

    This has to do with the culling distances of each foliage cluster. If they not grow/fade they will pop in and out at a certain distance. Decide what is better: popping or fading.

    What does the material Quality Level setting do?

    It will have the grass render farther, but you will lose the 3D ballast effect.

    Another that helps reduce pop-in is foliage.DitheredLOD=X, where X is an integer that defines a period of time over which foliage "fades in" rather than "pops in." I find 5 works pretty well.

  16. 3d ballast! That's another hate of mine.
