I've been looking at videos and screenshots of what Train Simulator looks like in 4k and I reckon it looks amazing. I just love how smooth it looks. Currently my monitor is a Samsung Odyssey G7 (the 240hz variant). Should I instead buy the G7 variant that runs at 144hz with 4k? Or should I keep my current monitor? I'm leaning towards keeping the G7 240hz variant but if people recommend the 4k variant or some other 4k monitor then I'll start saving up for that.
I have a 4k monitor and am blown away. It’s not just for games: you have so much more ‘real estate’ for other work too. An option to explore, if you use Amazon, is that you can get good deals with payments spread over five months: payments that don’t include extortionate interest!
While we're at it, can anyone comment on whether buying a Freesync or Gsync monitor makes any difference on TS? TIA
IMO, Yes because they virtually eliminate one of the causes of erratic fps (stuttering) in TS ie Video card Latency. I have run an ASUS GSync monitor for 3/4 years (since they were introduced) and this year change to a curved FreeSync monitor that is GSync compatible, The thing with G/Free Sync monitors is not to limit fps in any way. They work much better without a fps limit. I have published a guide on UKTS but it's a bit long in the tooth now being published in 2018/20. Set up correctly, can be a rewarding experience in TS. UKTS File ID: 39460 and an earlier one - TS2018 settings nVidia Control Panel UKTS ID 38190.
According to the specs listed on Nvidia’s website, a 2060 Super’s maximum resolution is 7680x4320. https://www.nvidia.com/en-me/geforce/graphics-cards/rtx-2060-super/ And according to several review onlines, it seems the 2060 Super is slightly faster than a 1080, which people on this forum have said works ok in 4k. See Dunkrez’s posts on running in 4k elsewhere here.
YES, it is something you must get. It's the best monitor for professional gaming and editing, not only for train sim. Because 4K monitors have just become more reasonable, they are well worth the investment. Another advantage of 4K is that it is no more likely than a 1080p monitor to create eyestrain. In fact, the increased clarity is a benefit.
I don't play Train Sim World 2022 on a PC but I have just upgraded my TV to a 4k but I ran into a problem graphic wise upon using the ordinary hdmi cables the screen on the TV looked horrible until someone told me to get the proper 4k cables for my new TV. Wow what a difference the picture is crystal clear and so smooth and clean. Which now leads me to ask what PC would be a great one to own for playing train Sim World on and which graphics card would I need, I have a fair idea on the monitor I would like nothing below 20 inch something like a 30 inch would do and what will a PC cost me.
Train Sim World and Train Simulator are two distinctly different programs. (Not to be snippy- just want you on the same page.)
Ts in 4k will blow you away. I run 4k on a 2060s some time ago. It's ok but on the more resource hungry routes expect your frame rate to be in the low 20s Portsmouth waterloo i was getting 18-19 fps in the London area. Met line anywhere between 25-40 Anything AP is a massive drain on fps too.
probably best to remove the dodgy links from your quoted message! the second one looks like it has been deleted but not the first.
Side topic: may have asked a while back but not sure, but does anyone use dynamic super resolution (DSR) on non 4k monitors? Basically allowing "virtual" 4k?
I do but not at 4k, I have a super-wide 2560x1080 and when playing TS I have it DSR upscaled 3620x1527 (2.00x) I found that the best performance compromise as I have all in-game settings maxed out, all that + 4k upscaling proved a bit too taxing for my 1080Ti leaving me with about ~ 15FPS as it is now I get 28+ but have it capped at 30 anyway.
