Not strictly true. They were built in 1977/78 for the LUL District Line. The Class 484 (like its Class 230 diesel counterpart) is a conversion of the original unit!
*Streaming 101* I don't know why this needs saying, this is hardly the first live preview DTG/Rivet has done. I don't know why Rivet didn't learn from the Luzern preview stream earlier this year. If you're doing a preview stream to show off your route, don't start on a gloomy fall day with rain where we can barely see anything (where street/station lights should have been on, but weren't) because it simply doesn't look good. In addition, the youtube/live streaming compression just doesn't work well with rain and darkness. And then when you DO pick a sunny summer day, pick a time in the early afternoon, not in the early morning with long drawn shadows everywhere.
I found that there’s something wrong with the water on the old route. I run a pc on medium display. Something to be fixed?
Like it and I wonder where the sounds from since Class 484 does not use a MITRAC 1508C Propulsion like the R142A R188 Family 7211-7936 R143 MTA NY MBTA Type 8 Tram
I have to be honest, it really looks like Rivet have done a proper bang-up job on this one. No, it's not the longest route in the game, but they have really upped the level of detail, the unit sounded pretty good to me (it felt like ex-Underground stock, it seemed to sound like how loud 483/1928/1972 stock should have been), and I love the attention to little details like operating guard's panel and using the driver's master key to open the cab door/unlock the guard's panel. I really didn't expect to say this about Island Line 2022 but... I'm pre-ordering it. Genuinely great job Jasper_Rivet and team!
Didnt have time for the stream. Is it sounding at least similar? Would be interested if they still use the same traction motors as the old D stock on the 484. Edit: saw on wiki, they changed it to TSA motors.
It's a bit of a 'damned if you do, damned if you don't' - we often get feedback that players want to see the route in as many conditions as possible for a preview (night/day/sun/rain). Scenarios shown, but also a decent chunk of services shown too. It's a lot to cover, so we try our best to provide as much as we can in terms of transparency before a release, rain or shine. (as far as I'm aware, the Luzern darkness was due to the windscreen tinting being a little too strong). Feedback taken on though in future that potentially we can start with clear and then move onto adverse weather after.
Surely showing off the necessary elements of the route should be priority though? ie the route in sunlight. Using various weather & times is great, but that should be reserved for the second stream. What we need to see is how it looks at the baseline. And as gogglesguy said, the stream quality really suffers in low light/fluid weather situations, so it’s a compounded effect. Same goes for stuff like safety systems, the last time we saw a train where these weren’t previewed (or the last one I seen at least) was the 187, and we know how that went. In Rivet’s case I think it’s extremely important that we get a clear preview. Overall for me, last nights preview didn’t secure a purchase.
DTG JD I appreciate you are active on the forum regarding fixes, please can you look in the PC discussion thread and locate the 150 new thread you asked us to create so we can get moving with the sounds and get this put to bed once and for all? Surely after sales should be a priority for your brand value?
Is there the exterior view, the one with the right or left arrows, which reviews the different views! Rivet tends not to do them? This will be my condition of purchase. The rest seemed fine.
Noticed on the stream, that the lights of the loco are default day, any chance of getting that switched to taillights. Tight schedules are quite hard enough without needing to run to the back of the loco every service. when set to taillights all that is needed is to set it correctly in front cab where player spawns. Also would be nice to see loco set up time added (more around 1:30) rather than around 15 seconds
Wouldn't it just. This is an issue that goes back to the very beginning of TSW. No matter how often it comes up, nothing changes. When you see how quickly MP goes through the set-up routine, I think we're all expected to have his expertise.
To be fair Matt usually just does the Master Key, Reverser, headlights and safety systems. Other set up such as PIS, lighting & other various bits are either missed or take him over the setup time. It’s very, very annoying that we have to complain about this constantly and the issue keeps coming back. The issue is even worse on console because the analog sticks have a deadzone with the same area size of London.
You just rereleased a route already on there. Out of curiosity, what was the thought process on that decision?
I only watched the beginning of the preview stream, but to my eyes disturbingly no raindrops were accumulating on the windows of the 484, and Jasper seemingly avoided turning on the wipers. Please reassure me that this is not the case and that rain is correctly depicted and the wipers wipe the drops away! Edit - confirmed that rain and wipers work fine.
Need the right set up for tail lights and headlights to be sorted shouldn't be too hard to fix before release surely?
OK then otherwise this is simply an R142A R188 R143 MTA NYC MBTA (Slang Term in Boston Providence T) Type 8 Tram propulsion unit running on a British Local route
Did anyone notice during the live stream on Tuesday that some of the passengers were misbehaving ? A few sank into the platform when walking around and I saw one float across the front of the train at Brading. But this was ignored or brushed aside by Jasper and JD. Please guys sort these imperfections out before release dates otherwise it will ruin all your hard work with the new train and the scenery.
Jasper isn't acknowledging fixes that have been highlighted today, regarding their already released DLC(150 thread), so I'm highly doubting you'll get a different build than the dev build streamed the other night when it comes to release day...
DTG JD Still haven’t had a response to my query as to whether the problem affecting the missing sea on Gen 8 consoles on the old route will be present on the 2022 route on release. Only that a fix is being worked on for the old route. Should be a simple enough question to answer. You only have to look.
The route seems good, although we'll have to wait and see for the bugs. The sounds of the 484 are strange, but the main problem I have is that it makes the original route redundant. It's a better route than the original, with improved scenery and a more accurate setting (compared to the original's weird SWT/NSE mash-up), while being significantly cheaper than the original. Why buy the original? I have a solution but it may be controversial. Update the original route with the scenery improvements, updates for the Class 483 and maybe an SWT red livery for the 483, then lower the price to be equal to the new pack. Therefore when buying the Isle of Wight, you get the option to buy equally detailed routes set at a different time for the same price. If you want the quaint Island Line, buy the original. If you want the upgraded Island Line with the 484, buy the new route. And then, release a bundle including both versions, making rebuying the same route less of an issue. Perhaps go for the standard £24.99 price? The £19.99 price would be more appropriate but that means you'd be getting the second version for £5, a 2/3 discount.
I think both routes have their own characters. Im glad rivet went an extra mile with building the route together with thr 484.
I agree. I just wished the general scenery updates were also made to the original so the old one is still worth buying. If I had bought the original before this new one was announced for £5 less I'd feel quite cheated.
What is the release date? Not today? Still unavailable on Steam. EDIT Oh, it's Tuesdays now. I forgot. BR o7
Why not? It’s a short old route with one train now superseded by the new one. It should be in the bargain bin.
Shouldn't be a problem for the new route, and we're hoping to get a fix out for the existing issue before release.
It promises to be another succesful release by Rivet after Luzern - Sursee. & the proper manual & the proper tutorials Just few more hours \o/
Compliments on the release stream. I thought that was so much better in terms of show casing the route.
James was a great addition too, able to really highlight the detail Jasper and myself perhaps wouldn't have been able to pinpoint.
