Set in roughly 1978, this route would cover around 50-55 miles of lines with a mix of both passenger and freight duties operating over their length. The route would include 3 previously used type of stock, with 1 new shunter, the Class 06 which was used almost exclusively on the Kirkcaldy Harbour, Dundee Docks & Auchmuty branch lines which would also feature on this route.

You all probably knew it was coming, but local services between Edinburgh & Cowdbenheath (as well as Cardenden in peak hours) were operated by Class 101s. To make things a bit different to the other releases of it, this version would not only be in the Rail Blue livery, but it would also have a headcode panel on the front of it. This would mean that this unit would actually have something to distinguish it from the Tees Valley & NTP versions.

Built between 1958 and 1960, 35 of these locos were built for use across Scotland and were powered by 204hp Gardner 8L3 engines. They had a top speed of 22mph and we’re withdrawn fully in 1981. Only 10 of the class survived to be given a TOPS number, and D2420 (06003) has been preserved by the Heritage Shunters Trust at Peak Rail. When travelling on the main line, the loco had to double head with a Class 08 as the 06’s were too lightweight to be picked up by the signalling track circuits, hence the Class 08’s inclusion. The locos were based at both Dunfermline Townhill & Dundee depots, with 1 of the Townhill locos being used for yard shunting and another one based at Kirkcaldy for use on the harbour lines there and the final 2 based at Markinch for the Auchmuty branch (4 in total). Dundee’s loco was used for duties on the Dock branches. A Class 06 could operate on all of the branch lines without requiring assistance from another loco.

As well as being used for assisting Class 06’s on the mainline, they would shunt loco hauled stock in and out of the station to allow the Class 40 hauling it to be able to exit the platform, wait for the shunter to move and then couple up again.

Operated a 2 hourly service over the Fife Circle line from Edinburgh, as well as trains from Glasgow (also 2 hourly?).

Also scope for Scottish Type 2’s, Class 26 and 27. Fully support the route and era proposal.

I think it would be more interesting with more modern trains.
    Class 158, Class 170.
Maybe a Inter 7 City ScotRail HST

For me the only reason I would buy this would be if it was set back in the beautiful BR blue days.

Absolutely! I tried the TSC Fife Circle route which is set in modern day and just boring.
