Why isn't there any dirt or rubbish in tsw? I can't speak for other countries but here in England the insides of the trains are grubby, the stations are grubby. The platforms are all in a state of disrepair. There's rubbish all over the tracks, even the giant vacuum cleaners don't get all of it. Weeds growing on platforms. Weeds growing in tracks. It was just the other day we was travelling down the main line and a tree was growing in the middle of one of the adjacent tracks. The redundant trackside cabinets for the old signalling system that was updated decades ago still remain in place. Would dtg get sued or something if they made a real life representation of our railways?
Well they don't seem to hesitate in putting graffiti everywhere so not sure why they have any qualms about rubbish or clutter. One of the things that strikes me about SoS is how clean and tidy everything is, not a piece of litter blowing around anywhere. I was watching a cab ride DVD over the Boulby Line earlier and on the outskirts of Saltburn the lineside looks like a linear dump with rubbish lying everywhere, old mattresses, prams etc., houses backing on to the line have chucked stuff over the fence rather than take it to the local tip etc. So it might not be pretty, but it should be in the game.
That takes dev time to implement for every single station/platform. They have to create the details, assets, textutes, whatever goes into route art. I can't speak for the devs cuz idk how difficult it would be to do this.
This was a choice made when TSW first came out - all the trains and infrastructure should be new. Over the years this position has softened somewhat (first evidenced when graffiti started to show up).
IMO they should 'soften' more. People want an authentic experience. Do you think UE5 would handle that better?
Maybe the company should soften the position more. Not every platform is squeaky clean or "new" in reality.

I know in the days of steam most of the railway was a foot deep in grease especially in places where a loco would stand for a while, like stations and sidings. Things never change, to this day the tracks are littered with crud where houses back onto the line. Or bridges where people like to think their rubbish is recycled when they launch it over the side.
The issue with this is that the world feels plastic and not lived in. It doesn't feel as immersive as it could be. This is especially noticeable in big cities since due to technical/time limitations, a lot of the ambiance is missing (more cars, pedestrians, noise, more consists in yards, etc.)
Not necessarily true because there's a load of clutter on loads of lines, but it tends to be in "piles" or construction clutter rather than a random crisp packet or sandwich box... Looking at the new IoW yesterday and there's random beach balls all over the place as "scenic clutter"... Litter in general is "a thing" in the UK because people are often lazy and don't bother to find a bin or the bin may be overfilled and things get blown away, so yeah, litter is definitely a "thing" not sure if it's a "problem" for many
Time to protest that DTG has failed yet again and rage quit. Beach balls are better than tree stumps all hacked off at a regulation two feet above the ground.
Some routes do have details like this, take NTP for example. This is one of my favourite stations in-game because little details like this make it feel so authentic.
Or their tracks south of San Jose a few years ago, was out there for work, and next to the ROW was nothing but junk and trash and other stuff....
