So I've been cruising around in ma trains as usual, and I've noticed some track equipment that I can't identify. Here they are:

    1. (UK, London commuter):

    2. (Answered) (US, Clinchfield):

Does anyone know what these are? My guesses are that 1 is an old AWS magnet frame and 2 is a hot axle box detector. Thanks :)

    This is a flange greaser.

Interesting! I don't think they exist in the UK. Thanks :)

  4. There's flange greaser all over the UK . (Track lubrication unit) The junction behind me has one, you can tell when it's empty as the trains grind through the junction. The top vid I'm not quite sure. It's too long to be a aws magnet. My local station has one of the first types of aws magnets and they're shorter than the modern type.

Didn't know that. What do they look like in the UK? I can't find a picture.

  7. There are several different types. Although they all do the same thing.

Most common I've seen around here look like a big yellow pot or grey. Usually accompanied by a few empty buckets of grease.

You’re welcome. There’s also some pictures of some on underground rails
