    The climbing is not over but a freight train enjoys the respite of a down grade as it approaches Dale on its way to Laramie (Sherman Hill).

    The change of gradient, from a mere 1:54 to a mercifully short stretch at 1:27, is as apparent to the observer as it is to the hard working EE Type 3 approaching Land's Viaduct. The bridge itself is level providing all too brief relief on the long climb over Cockfield Fell in The Weardale and Teesdale Network in the '60s route.
