My name is MrScott, After watch the Youtube channel content creation series with Natalie and Andy, I've been inspired to try my hand at making content for TS. I thought it's best to start with something small like a model railroad layout. After searching high and low I decided on this track plan. I've decided on the name of Union Gap Railroad for this project. It took around six tries to plot all the track out right. Then came time to set the elevation of the track. For some unknown reason the game locks up and crashes when I try to adjust the track height. Is there a known problem with height adjustments in the game? Do I need to set the height as I plot the track?
I did start this project again, this time adding the height while adding the tracks. At first I had a few game crashes but that has since gone away. I haven't had any game crashes for a while now. I have no idea what the problem was. Work continues.
I was able to finish all the track work. As I was tweaking some track at the end, I started getting the dreaded game crashing again. The only thing I could do was delete the track causing the crash, save the map, then rebuild the section of track. It's seem to do the trick. Below is the map with the finished track work. The only problem I see now is that the tunnels are not showing up in the right places. Don't know why. Oh well, now I can start on the fun stuff!
Hello MrScott, and welcome ... Could you post a route editor screenshot of your route ? - I miss the 'mine industry tracks' on your map layout ?! Not a lot of room left for those tracks; don't make the layout too small... You will run into trouble! I hope you did put an eye on 'track rules' , direction of tracks, type of tracks (yard, freight, main, passenger ... ), points ( manual or automatic ) , AI spawn or 'take out' points/marker ... There is so much to think and plan at the beginning! I started my route March 2022; and while building and improving my route, I noticed many 'small' problems, I just didn't know about when I started the project... Good Luck ! ... and I hope we will see more of your route soon.
Hello, yes I'll post some editor screenshots in the General forums. The very first attempt at this track plan I used a 3 by 4 editor grid for measurements. I found this to be to big so I reduced the plan to a 2 by 3 grid. This seems to work better but it still a little on the large size, but that's still plenty of space left for some creative building. I left out the industry tracks because of this same reason. Once I've added the landscaping I can see what room I have for those industries.
It may be a while before I have anything to show on this project. Here is how the map looks now. I need to get familiar with the landscaping tools as I have a lot of landscaping to do.
I found out that I'm just not cut out for a 100% "imagination" type of route building. It's a good idea, but not for me. I realized that I enjoy more of that "historical" route type of building and creation. I will most likely find a local historical route, or area to model. Sorry for the removed images.
