The new promotional video is nice, and we see a steam locomotive there. Can we hope to see it in Train Sim world DLC.
Two obvious issues are motion blur and particle emissions. The first issue is the motion blur looks terrible on rotating objects, which on small solid wheels isn't too distracting, but on large spoked wheels at speed looks really bad. You can try it for yourself by doing 50mph with the Class 09 on WSR. The second issue is particle emissions. DTG have been unable to add exhaust to the AI trains on WSR and even the player exhaust is glitchy, and that's just a simple exhaust. Steam trains have smoke and steam coming from multiple places and at different times. Let's face it, you can't have steam trains without steam! I think steam will be a good few months away at least.
For motion blur, I do not understand that DTG maintains active this option. All the people playing TSW whom I know, deactivated this effect.
Motion blur can be turned off with <ctrl><F2> or permanently via editing a configuration file. As far as particle emissions - have you seen the exhaust on the factory chimneys in the latest release -- the most realistic I have seen in any simulation. And I am sure the kinks are being worked out to make it consistent with the locomotives-- From my experience with flight simulations, TS2018, and others - simulation is a journey.
Dovetail Games have said in the past that they would like to bring steam locomotives to Train Sim World, however they are much more complicated than diesel or electric locomotives which is why there aren't any yet. Progress has been made, for instance the Class 09 tested coupling rods, progress towards creating steam locomotives for TSW. Steam locomotives will come to TSW, but not soon.
I look forward to steam in TSW, but I hope they get the Diesel Electrics working right first before they try steam.
My hair is all ready white -- maybe why news or lack of news is of no concern - have plenty to do in the simulation I enjoy so will keep doing it, when new stuff comes out - or fixes finally arrive, or an editor materializes - while enjoy those as well. but in the mean time - won't get wrapped around the axle over things I can't control or influence. Could be the reason I have made it to write hair and still enjoying life
I think no, but the game is not released yet. I posted this picture because the realization is very beautiful and it's not a train simulator. I hope to see this someday in TSW.
