So I just watched the Q&a stream and I was really impressed by the music! Now I would love to know whether the music can be found on Spotify and what the piece was called?
I did not really like the music but I noticed it and questioned if it was licensed or made internally. The music is well made if it was made internally.
I'm glad the menu music doesn't follow the trailer music in style. The marketing "identity" with those hip-hop beats just don't do it for me. I miss the epic music that were in the older TSW 2020 and TSW 2 trailers. Thankfully, the menu music is nice and relaxing, I like it very much. I have a similar tune set in Microsoft Flight Simulator UI as well.
I haven’t heard the music properly yet. The presentation of the UI in the live stream was the worst bit of TV I have ever seen so it was hard to know what to concentrate on, the lightspeed video demonstration of the UI or the live narration that was initially silent and didn’t ever match with what was happening on the screen. It gave me a bit of a headache. So the music kind of passed me by. I don’t generally like music in menus so I’ll probably be turning it off anyway. Apologies in advance to those who put it together.
Off topic here, but from guess work, I assume JD was showing the video as a Media Source in OBS which cannot be paused without a bit of work hence the fast/non-paused nature of that section. For reference, if you do want to pause a Media Source, you need to add a hotkey (settings -> Hotkeys -> Media Source -> play/pause). Setting the same hotkey for both play and pause seems to result in expected behavour. EDIT: It's also possible to add a reset hotkey which would have been helpful with the technical difficulties at the start. I really like the music though and I do typically turn music off in games. However, I think it really sets the mood here and I prefer it over any of the promotional content (e.g. trailer) music.
I didn't even realise there had been menu music playing in the stream, I would probably turn it off if it were too noticeable anyway, I always think some ambient noise in menus is good, but too much or too repetitive and it gets annoying. Not as annoying as UI navigation sounds usually are though, whilst they have their uses for those who need them I am grateful most games and systems let you turn them off.
You start the game, watch the introduction video ... Drive the ICE at 300 Km/h! Haul cargo with 100 wagons in Cajon Pass! Bad weather! Lightning! Go against all the elements! Then the menu appears and you hear the relaxing music ... Start on foot in a field, sit on a bench and watch the daisies grow?
I like having relaxing music personally. Gives me the vibe of a Forza Motorsport title. I'd rather not have something loud and bombastic. One of the reasons I play TSW is that I find it quite relaxing so I think it works well. If I'm feeling pumped and ready to go to war then chances are I'm playing another game entirely.
The music does not need to be loud or very fast paced. I just think they went 2 or 3 notches too much into the relaxing side.
hopefully if we want to, we can get rid of music by the usual deleting of the intro videos? first thing i do in any game is turn the music volume right down.
Sadly, Forza Motorsport went nuts with all the rock music and now hip hop. I mean, they put Jay-Z into the latest trailer? That's very far from the modern and elegant style Forza used to represent. It's geared towards teens and mainstream audiences now.
I’ve just listened to the music properly now. There’s now a video featuring it on the youtube page. I have to say it is very good, very ASMR, and a good mix of the music and sound effects. As I said earlier I will turn it off in the game as I do prefer silence to repeating sound of any kind in menus. That doesn’t take away from how well it has been done though.
I think the music is sort of designed to be there in the background but to not be that noticeable, which still being nice and relaxing. The animation of the train movements from above that seems to appear behind the menus is pretty good as well.
Which makes no sense, since SFSJ is hundreds of miles from the surfing beaches around LA, and a completely different climate. It would be like using bagpipe music for East Coastway.
In full wetsuits: the surfing is good, for the hardy and dedicated athlete - but there's none of southern CA's sun 'n' fun beach culture: way too damn cold (and usually foggy) for beach blanket bingo, or Ventures music.
I get it, everyone thinks Southern Cal when surfing is talked about but there's plenty of surfing beaches around SF. Bolinas, Ocean Beach, Princeton Jetty, Mavericks & Stinson Beach are all great surf beaches around SF. Let's give them a pass and not split hairs.
I like it a lot! Reminded me of ASMR as well, especially with the amazingly detailed storms that seem to appear very now and then
Just to stick in my 1-cent worth, I wouldn't even call that soundtrack music. It's just noise to me -- and irritating noise, at that..
I liked this music promotion. Simple, unobtrusive background music that doesn't distract from the goal.
