Tried to be sarcastic there There is no reason, apart from that the majority of people on PC will be on Steam, and it seems like sales are going so well recently that no more discounts are needed for the time being.
Agreed the Steam discounts are disappointing, I thought after a year or so the discounts would be larger, even HRR and RRO are only 25%. I thought the prices included the scope for discounts but they must be a bit tighter for cash this year. Sadly so are most customers...
I was in 2 minds on whether to get a couple of DLC in the sales or splurge on Sherman Hill, with the discounts on the 3 routes I had in mind (Clinchfield, Tees Valley & Munich Augsberg) all being extremely underwhelming looks like I'll be getting Sherman Hill.
I replied last week in another thread about the sales that Steam discounts will likely mirror the discounts on DTG store, which were a week earlier, and that people shouldn't expect them being higher on Steam next week when Steam Autumn Sale will start (and that basically happened).
I will not let the money burn a hole in my pocket and wait to see what happens at Xmas. The only decent bargains are on the ancient original items like GWE. Mind, although I bought it, OMSI 2 was only 30% off and from discussions on the Steam forum for the game it has gone lower too. Maybe it’s Steam not wanting to reduce their profit margins.
The Steam autumn sale is never that great, its the winter sale that usually has the bigger sales, so I would suggest that if you want a better sale wait until the winter sale it starts on the 22nd December. I would say this is a Steam setting the prices not DTG
Well at least PC is getting some love. Over in Xbox-land there is sweet fanny adams in terms of a DLC sale. I hope PS is doing better!
Looking here: https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/marketing/discounts it seems valve can recommend discounts, but at the end of the day it’s up to the developer/publisher to decide. So Valve could have recommended these prices, but ultimately it is up to DTG to decide. It seems like DTG are going the other way round lol
There are some pretty sturdy rules on Steam when it comes to discount offerings: You can only offer a discount of XX% if there has been no other discount in X weeks. Or X weeks must have passed since a launch discount before you can offer a different one. I'd offer specifics for you, but don't have them (and would be told "errr, let's not" were I to raise the subject with those in the know). These rules exist for the benefit of players in order to protect them from dubious price altering tactics that would serve to be misleading. In this case it could be that we have a smaller discount now in order to be able to offer a larger one at the end of the year, or we might offer the same at both if the rules permit it, or none at the end of the year (unlikely). My recommendation is the same as it always is - if you think the price is reasonable at any given time, it is. What constitutes reasonable is entirely down to you as an individual.
Fair enough, Sam. For me personally 20% isn't enough of a discount to get me to buy a route I wouldn't have already bought at full price. It's disappointing though that the only serious route discounts are for RT, which I don't want, and LIRR, which I have but wouldn't want if I didn't.
The LGV and Clinchfield are 40% on Epic and only 20% on Steam. Could someone explain the advantages of buying on Steam over Epic please.
Well, there are people who prefer/use Epic, so it's just that the game is available for them as well.
I'm a Epic Store version user. Thank's to Epic i got a free copy of TSW2. I've bought 2 DLC so far, The Cane Creek & The Sherman Hill. Looking forward for the Horseshoe Curve. American freight route & beefy locos lover/enthusiast over here! Cheers
There's some light discounts on various add-ons on Steam until the 8th - mainly Rush Hour and Preserved Collection.

Steam Summer Sale until 19:30 GMT 7th July Everything apart from Spirit of Steam on sale at discounts of 25-80%
I thought they might have tantalised us with 10 to 15% off SoS, but guess we will have to wait until December for the discount to kick in. I had also hoped to see WCL get the Sherman treatment and go for less than a fiver, at which point I would have bought it again, but guess Rivet/DTG are being stubborn and holding out a bit longer. So most of my money went on TSC stuff this time round (Metropolitan + S7 pack was a bargain at less than £20 when the usual price is ~£50) with just Arosa finding its way into my TSW collection.
Time to ride the circle with Cathcart at 80% off! I wonder if a loco DLC is coming for this route; they need enough people to own the route for that to make sense. I also wonder if the 314 will layer into a future route. Until then, it looks like an enjoyable drive.
I was not going to buy anything more because I have a lot of TSW2 content and I do not even have time to play it all, but of course I saw the 80% off and I can't let it go ... then I saw that Harlem also had 25% off so if I add everything it is still cheaper than 1 full price DLC ... You know how this ends. /facepalm
WSR has found itself in my basket, now the question is do I get the 52 & 33 to go with it. Do they add any other services to the route or just sub in for the 47? Does anything else sub in as well?
Mind you, if you have TVL and/or NTP with their DLCs, the 37, 40, 45, blue 47, 20, 31, 101 and 08 are all available on WSR as substitutions (technically not "layers," as they don't have their own timetables).
I'm looking at those also. The descriptions for each say three scenarios plus 15 services in service mode, but the wording on the latter leads me to believe that they become an option for driving 15 existing services.
On WSR it doesn't really make a difference whether it's a "layer" or a "substitution," since all the services are pretty much the same.
If you own the TSW2020 base game, yes. If not, you're out of luck, but only missing a few quid. Cheers
Humble Bundle sale 18:00 Fri 19 Aug - 18:00 Fri 26 Aug 50-70% discounts https://www.humblebundle.com/store/search?sort=discount&search=train+sim+world (both 2020 & TSW2)
Yes Old Vern there is, but firstly you are commenting on TSW3 which this thread is all about TSC, but to answer your question, there is a pre order discount for the deluxe edition of TSW3 on most platforms including Xbox which is unusual for Microsoft. The annoying thing is it is the standard edition plus SoS for an extra £5 and most of us will have purchased that. For anyone interested in TSC sales, look out for a Armstrong Powerhouse sale at the end of next week to coincide with the bank holiday and maybe a Steam Sounds Supreme sale, as they normally have one in August too.
Well this thread is actually in the TSW section... And yes I know all about the (poor) pre order offer on TSW3 i.e. only the top range bundle which is of no interest to me...
That last line is important to note. TSW2020 and TSW2 are mixed freely in the listing, so watch the logo before you buy if you don't already have 2020. Also, a reminder that the Amtrak SW1000R and CSX GP40-2 on sale here are TSW2020 only; they were not brought up to TSW2 and will not be available for TSW3.
Too bad LGV is not on the list. I’d buy it purely for the layer on SEHS in TSW3, so it’s not worth spending a lot of cash on. I’d also like to acquire the New Journeys Expansion at some point but it’s not listed either.
If you own both TSW2020 and TSW2 then you will receive both versions of the DLC. This works retroactively too, in case you purchase TSW2 at a later date. Cheers
I think he's asking if you can buy TSW2020 DLC without buying the TSW2020 game itself and still get the TSW2 DLC upgrade. If, so, that's a good question; I have no idea.
