I've had all sorts of weird and wonderful requests so far. Whatever comes next, it'll be brilliant building it
Really can’t wait for this one, only got the tamper a couple of weeks back which really set the bar high, so I’m very excited - half the time these are the only sort of variety I get on my local line
The MPV Pack literally has ten times the features of the tamper in terms of functionality, and instead of just 7 preload consists, this pack comes with a whopping 30+ preload variants. It's as feature rich as I could possibly get it (weighing in at just under 10,000 lines of scripting per vehicle).
Now wouldn't that be a thing if you could remove (make invisible) a small section of track and then get a track layer to make it reappear as it went over it.. DUNCAN!!!!
There's probably a way to do it, a load of ideas ran through my mind as I read that - however, it would be smoke and mirrors. Not sure it's technically possible, but, with an open mind, most things are doable.
Dunc saving loads of quid on haircuts developing this random, yet completely necessary content Seriously, I love it. Anyone who finds a niche within a niche that we just don't notice the absence thereof (until we hop on an actual train), but that adds immense immersion to the sim when we include it in our scenarios, is a huge asset to the community. Well done mate. Love what you're bringing to the sim.
It does look great. It isn't normally the sort of thing I would buy but I think I will have to. If you fancy adding to the first generation DMU fleet I think you would be quite popular!
As it happens, I do have a stack of source from a couple of first gen dmu's I wonder how detailed they could be and what the limit is? The MPV brushes that limit, I'm pretty sure. I'd like to really push the boundaries with whatever comes next - a mix of being super conservative with everything that will allow for it and then doubling down on details and systems around that.
The GST MPV Pack is OUT NOW! https://alanthomsonsim.com/product/goldstartrains-multi-purpose-vehicle-mpv/ "This pack brings to life the MPV in Train Simulator and was carefully constructed consulting a Network Rail operator at every step along the way. The pack features approved use of Network Rail branding to add to the authentic MPV experience. The vehicle controls are accurate, as is its behaviour. The sounds for this pack were recorded professionally at a dedicated MPV recording session on a fine summer afternoon and are provided courtesy of Legomanbiffo in conjunction with GST. My thanks go to all who have helped make this pack possible, without you there would be no MPV in Train Simulator Classic. We hope you have as much enjoyment from this pack as we have had making it." - Duncan Reynolds GOLD STAR TRAINS ®
Well I've managed to get the thing rolling (only 10 mins) and it's looking good! Gonna take some getting to grips with this, "rtfm" essential, lol! **I've put a shortcut to the manual on my desktop now...
Any way to toggle the 'visual aids' tabs on/off when aws or dvd activate? (ctrl+numpad enter doesn't seem to work?)
Not at present, but I'll add it to the list of things to add to the next MPV expansion pack, or to the next interim update. Hope this helps
The manual is in Railworks/Manuals/EN and is called GST MPV Manual.pdf Just as an aside it's come to our attention that there is an issue with the Tutorial Scenario and the CTRL key sticking which seems to affect the key maps adversely. The short term work-around for this is to hold the CTRL key for a few seconds, and then the key controls will respond normally again. ATS are on with a patch to sort out the issue and hope to have it ready as soon as possible. Please accept my apologies for this one, somehow it managed to escape the entire beta team and bite what is a really nice introduction to the MPV.
Following on from launch feedback, we have a bundle of fixes & adjustments on their way to ATS to be packaged for distribution MPV v3.2 - Unit base shadow fixed - External model interior cab gaps fixed (inner ceiling sides/footwells) - Wiper sounds fixed - Control desk switches sounds fixed - Window open/close sound added - Door open/slam sounds fixed - GSMR button sounds fixed - Sandite Module transform issue fixed - Couplings transform issue fixed - Front couplings distance adjusted - Reverser lever sensitivity increased - Wiper switch sensitivity descreased - Visual alarms On/Off added (CTRL + H: toggle on/off) - South West Trains logo colour corrected (now white and orange) - Red Flatbed hooks transform issue fixed - Initial acceleration improved - AI preload consist auto-lights edge case fixed - Texture of cab front nuts/bolts enhanced .
I like the onboard camera from the secondman's seat, I assume that is showing the rear of the train?? Did Railtrack have any MPV's in their livery from 1994 onwards before Network Rail existed?? Cheerz. Steve.
Would be a complete waste of money here. Drive it once and then forget about it. Doesn't have the appeal of something i would drive, over and over again.
Yes mate, the COVID kit shows the view from the other end of the train - this is because when COVID kicked off and social distancing made it to the railways, drivers and operators would work shifts in either end, the driver at the front, and the operator at the back. I've included a Railtrack branded variant (with unbranded old style water tanks) - if there are any more that you know of, let me know and I'll likely include them with an update. To be fair, driving it once wouldn't do it justice - I can't thank everyone enough for the interest shown in the MPV pack, its triple that of the Plasser tamper pack - more to follow soon! .
Oh, right, I didn't think it was Covid related just thought it was a bog standard camera fitted when the machines were first designed, well done for including it anyway, it's a nice feature. Can't think of any other TOCs that use these machines, I'm afraid, I lost interest when everything went Privatised, maybe one of our younger enthusiastic forum members may know of any current companies who operate these regularly. Cheerz. Steve.
GST MPV v3.2 is now live on ATS... please re-download the pack for the updates. https://alanthomsonsim.com/product/goldstartrains-multi-purpose-vehicle-mpv/ Just a reminder of what that includes: - Unit base shadow fixed - Tutorial CTRL key issue fixed - External model interior cab gaps fixed (inner ceiling sides/footwells) - Wiper sounds fixed - Control desk switches sounds fixed - Window open/close sound added - Door open/slam sounds fixed - GSMR button sounds fixed - Sandite Module transform issue fixed - Couplings transform issue fixed - Front couplings distance adjusted - Reverser lever sensitivity increased - Wiper switch sensitivity decreased - Visual alarms On/Off added (CTRL + H: toggle on/off) - South West Trains logo colour corrected (now white and orange) - Red Flatbed hooks transform issue fixed - Initial acceleration improved - AI preload consist auto-lights edge case fixed - Texture of cab front nuts/bolts enhanced Thank you!
Same here. Maybe a class 47 would be more useful. I'm sure most TSC players would purchase it at the right price.
Funny you should mention that, as I do have a full model of a class 47 sat around waiting for more 3DS MAX work done to it, final detailing, shadow baking and the rest... however, margins are super tight with train simulation as a whole and people are really watching their wallets so it's unlikely that it'll ever see a public release. It was a wing and a prayer bringing the mpv pack to TSC, so the base pack is as cheap as I could possibly make it (ridiculously so for a pack that features genuine unit sounds and approved genuine branding) with a view that further bolt on packs would utilise that initial pack framework making the next releases much cheaper. I'll have a dig around and see if I can make a couple of renders of stock I have that's partially complete.
Looks brilliant, Duncan, well done. Can I please be selfish and ask if it would be possible at all for you to do a Class 47 without the high intensity headlight so we can have the originally designed Brush model running on our many routes from the 1960s to the 80s. Cheerz. Steve.
Apparently, there's a 47 at Peak Rail at the moment just as you described. Seeing as I live just 3 miles away I'm going to have a ride over this weekend and see what's what PSA: Please support ongoing GST Train Simulator development by treating yourself to an MPV Pack or Tamper Pack - thank you!
I'd buy it. The game is crying out for a decent 47. Many people would buy it. I think more would buy it than will be this. I'm not saying this is not good or anything, but surely if people are buying this, and the tamper, then people will buy a decent 47.
It's all about stepping stones, can't run before you can walk kind of thing. If GST makes enough money to re-invest into building more popular rolling stock, then that's the way it will go Just about everything works on the MPV, there's only a handful of loco's that manage that in TS. That was my remit with this one. I was at the EVR late on yesterday having an ask about what traction they currently have and having a sneaky peek at things.
I just want to take a moment to thank each and every one of you who has shown interest in the MPV pack - all of the kind words of encouragement, constructive criticism and gratitude. I have a lot of people to thank for making this entire endeavour possible and I'm very grateful to you all It's mad to think that just a few years ago I had no experience with TS development at all. Fast forward to 2022 and I have two full packs out (not to mention the freeware HST cab & lights upgrade pack that has been downloaded 2000+ times). I look forward to bringing much more to the sim!
I now own your Tamper, I'll hopefully get to actually drive it this weekend, can't wait to learn all it can do & push all those lovely buttons
I also caved in and obtained your Tamper, Duncan. However, I need to inform you that on the BR model the logo is wrong way round on both sides of the machine, have you been advised of this at all?? Cheerz. Steve.
It's a weird one but... It was like that on the original unit - no idea why (DR73101 is long since gone). Hope this helps, definitely an odd one off case of BR madness! *Image is not mine and is externally linked
