I remember DTG telling us in their PR videos that Kassel-Würzburg was a route you'd be able to drive 280km/h and maintain that speed for a while. However, I just did a run in clear weather, with the ICE1 (which if I recall correctly was less prone to speed restrictions), but I wasn't able to even reach 280km/h. All tunnels (and there's quite a few of them) had a 250km/h speed restrictions, and the sections in between weren't long enough to get even close to 280km/h. So how do I need to set up my run in order to be allowed 280km/h for a longer stretch?
Not at all. That’s the nature of this route, which was originally build for 250kph. In the meantime the rules for high speed lines in Germany have changed, which made it impossible to approve 280kph in those kind of tunnels. In reality the 280kph are used mainly to make up for delays… Besides, I do not recall DTG promise us to drive for longer stretches at 280kph?!
Good point, of course you can drive as fast as you want if you switch LZB off didn’t think about that.
Yes. LZB is like an autopilot and it doesn’t let you pass the Safety speed limit. Just chuck a german train without it or even a french train .eg the TGV and you can go as fast as you want
Yes as said above without LZB you can run as fast as you want but depending on the loco / unit and conditions the LZB will change to fit the situation.
Without LZB trains are limited to 165 km/h. I dont know how you can honestly tell people to switch it off to reach 300km/h!
