Hi all you TSW3 early access people. How is the performance (especially compared to TSW2) and how bad it the stuttering? Did you try DX12 already? How is the performance/stutters with this?
I'm seeing nothing other than the usual micro-stutter when Unreal loads in a bunch of new stuff, which I'm not bothered about. Otherwise it's running very well on maximum possible settings.
Love the new lighting and Clouds they look great. I have not tried the DX12 option yet but it runs well. The Game Auto Set my settings and reduced the Screen% to 67%. It ran with 60FPS stable but I was not happy set it to 90% and it lost 5-8FPS. But Looked slightly better. I have old Vega 56 Card 8GB GPU/AMD 3900X/32GB DDR4 (3600) and run at 3200x1800 with Meduim-High setting on most options. Runs well no real dffference to TSW2 on my machine. Some stutter but no more than TSW2. FPS Range 30-60fps
Did a full run on SFS Kassel-Würzburg, seen some stutters. FPS maintained at 55-60 in tunnels or on long viaducts, otherwise 45-50fps. Stations are generally around 30fps. Will do some further testing after cooling my laptop (the poor nvme hard drive was overheated during playing and caused an automatic shutdown) Spec. i7-10750H@3.69GHz+GTX1660Ti 6G VRAM 16G RAM Update Now the game runs much better even on SFS Kassel-Würzburg. I’ve noticed in TSW3 it requires a more powerful cpu. Since my laptop has overheating issue I’ve limited my hexacore i7 to 3.7GHz(normally it should reach 4.2GHz at least) which drastically impacted the fps. Everything is solved after I purchased a powerful cooling device and lifted the speed restrictions on cpu.
Under Steam where all your Games are listed. Click on Train Sim World 3 and then press right mouse click. It will come up with Properties. Click this and the Menu with General will appear. Then set -DX12 in Launch Options.
Tried it briefly in the Training area and seemed to work fine in DX12 mode. I wasn't really going far/fast enough to see if there were any more/less micro-stutters, but everything seemed stable.
Quick update, I've completed a few runs this morning in DX12 mode and haven't seen a single micro-stutter on SEHS. This is with the default engine.ini in 4k running at uncapped FPS (not dropping below 60).
I would say I have seen a slight improvement in FPS and reduced stuttering in TSW3 when compared to TSW2. With default High to Ultra settings and no Engine.ini edits. Will see if this continues as I play about with the ini.
Got mine capped at 92fps and I'm getting close to that constantly, some stuttering still. I know it doesn't make much difference over 62fps cap but playing around to see what happens.
My performance is pretty much the same as in TSW2, a few stutters and a steady 60 fps, all settings at ultra. The lighting is somewhat better overall, and the sky is vastly improved. But, truthfully, it's TSW2+.
training centre is by far the worst for stuttering, the actual routes no better or worst than TSW2. To be honest Im pleasantly surprise by the performance and the lighting is a big improvement. Ive actually set TSW3 at higher settings then TSW2 and getting the same if not better performance.
After running up and down sehs a few times the performance has improved. Same with training center. Stuttering is still present at times but nothing like tsw2. I've not noticed any of that sound slowing down and speeding up again with the stutter.
Is it also applies at Epic version of the games? Just simply add "-DX12" at additional launch command settings?
Yes it doesn’t seem quite so bad and it’s more rubber banding than stuttering at least to me, as the sound briefly slows down. More noticeable on SEHS than SKW (think that’s the abbreviation for the German route) and haven’t done enough on Cajon to judge. The proof will be getting the performance heavy TSW2 routes in there tomorrow, like BML or Dresden to Riesa.
