TSW 3 appears to be quite broken on Steam Deck at the moment. On startup the DTG logo video thing has a random texture on instead of the DTG logo. The main menu also has the same issue with the background the same texture as the DTG thing. Profile transfer doesn’t seem to work on steam deck, probably due to the different file structure on Linux. Can a TSW 2 file be copied across directly or does TSW3 change it when it’s imported? The game is also freezing a lot too, both in the menu and trying to load a route. Had to force quit quite a few times after 5 minutes of the game being frozen. Tried on both The current version of Proton and on Proton Experimental. Build number 59.
The logo/menu background issue looks like something with the video codec, as it is now a video playing in background instead of 3D scene being rendered (from what I saw in streams). Were the logo/intro videos playing fine on the Deck in TSW2? As for where the TSW2/TSW3 profiles are saved on Steam Deck, I can't help much. I'm still waiting in queue for mine. Can you drive a train and finish some services, or is it freezing after some time every time you launch it?
I know where the saves are for tsw2 as I keep copying my profile from my desktop pc and back again, I’ll wait until I’m home and import it on there then copy it onto the Steam Deck. The only thing I’ve been able to do so far is spawn on foot, every time I try and play a service, training or journey it freezes. You won’t be disappointed when you get your steam deck though, plays TS and TSW2 with no issues and plays other games even better (gta5 at 60fps). I would recommend getting a good high-power battery to use with it though.
I had similar issues with it freezing on load, requiring multiple reboots of the Deck to finally get into the game, but once you do, adjust the default visual settings to at least the Medium overall setting, that seemed to allow the game to load in every time, and from there, tweak as you see fit. I'd be curious to know what you come up with, I did make a thread about it, but it appears to have sunk without trace: https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/steam-deck-optimal-settings.58102/
Changing the settings to medium did the trick for loading, I’ll have to play around with the settings when I get some time and see what I end up with.
Indeed, not verified, but as TrainSim-Matt said on stream (and he held up his Deck running it at the time), supposedly perfectly playable all the same. Certainly no regrets so far!
Getting my steam deeck up to latest build today and will try and get some testing in over the next few days to see how it is. Certainly whenever i'd played it (not extensively I must admit) it was great.
