Lovin This Dynamic Weather

Discussion in 'TSW General Discussion' started by dangerousdave, Sep 6, 2022.

  1. I was running a early morning oil train over the pass, happily moving along at the line speed until a thunder storm hit and gradually brought to a crawl at 13mph.

That's some realism right there. Perfect.

I like it, but on Cajon, it does not ever rain as much as we are seeing with the dynamic weather. Ran a stack train from Victorville to San Bernadino. Started in broken clouds, clouds got thicker, and the rain begun, shortly it was lightening, by the time I was close to the end, back to broken clouds. I do mean that is dynamic.

Same here! Snow effects are pretty cool as well. Love seeing rain pool in spots on the platforms.
The lightning doesn't light up the night sky quite as much as you'd expect, however. But overall, this is great.

  4. It rained for over an hour on my run. I'm guessing it don't rain that much in September? I'm considering moving to texas in the near future, I hope it don't rain that much there. It's still a good feature in the game though, even if it's not accurate.

  5. Yeah I like the snow runs. The lightening isn't perfect but it's better than nothing.

It’s also quite effective on the legacy routes, my freight run from koln to Aachen was a bit nervy when I couldn’t find the wiper button in the dark!

On a PC, the V key turns wipers on and successive pushes increase their speed; Shift+V decreases wiper speed and turns them off. If you want to find and use the wiper control, try turning on the cab light (or lights, in some cabs). They're controlled by the L key, but there's also a switch or button somewhere in the cab.

which would be awesome but I’m on a PS5 and I haven’t got a keyboard plugged in…. Never mind, I had the same problem with a ford escort once and never crashed that whilst trying to find the wipers:cool:

Very impressive electric storm entering Koln, tricky with all ICE systems on.
The earlier lesser skies are noticeable now, the initial dark sky setting appearing quite light.
Whole route felt like an improvement.

I am also happy with the dynamic weather. Especially on long routes, you never know what you're going to find. Yesterday on an overnight freight run of more than two hours on the new German route with the BR 185 MRCE it was amazing, I was going from dry-rain-dry-rain constantly, and the rain with varying degrees of intensity. In Fulda I overtook another moving freigt train that had just departed, what a beautiful moment in the pouring rain
Congratulations for this great work DTG :D

If IRL it rained so much in the Mojave Desert, it wouldn't be a desert.

Correct on that, I have stopped using dynamic weather in CP.

Perhaps you should check the TSW users' manual, which can be viewed and downloaded on Steam?

Yes I like this as well though I think it needs tweaking as driving on SEHS just now and there was just a few light clouds but it was pouring with rain out of nowhere.

To be honest at first I didn’t care so much because I figured I could already set the weather to whatever I want… but today running 2 back to back services in Cathcart at around 6am, I started it with heavy clouds… that quickly turned into a heavy rainstorm with lightning and thunder… by the time I made it back to Glasgow the storm had broken and I now had the sun breaking through with clouds and light sun shower. By the time I set up my next train and left the station again it was a beautiful morning with sun and clouds. It adds a lot to the game and makes it more fun to ride out multiple services in a day without restarting the game.

I can see where it would cause issues like with rain storms in the desert so I’m glad they make it optional.
