Some nice but minor improvements to the graphics, but many of the issues that affected the past two games still apply. The first post in this thread is absolutely not a showcase of what the game can do - in no way is it realistic that the sun would make the side of the loco so bright that it is basically white. The sun is far too strong in that regard. The photo above this post has a similar issue - the sun is incredibly bright; making the train closer to grey than blue. Night lighting seems very good but the general washed-out look all other times of day really ruins the graphics. The same can be said for shadows not appearing for scenery that is far away. I have no idea what DTG are doing but they have managed to make the problem worse. This is almost certainly an issue created by the Unreal Engine. Other games, such as Life Is Strange, have similar issues with colour balance, and ironically Train Simulator has it much better in this regard.
    20220902204742_1.jpg
There is much less finesse in the graphics but look how much more orange the BNSF livery is in TS compared to the screenshot below.
DTG seriously need to figure out a way to fix the colouring because as much as they can do great things with volumetric clouds (as unnecessary as they may be overall) and night lighting, but the lack of colour ruins the whole thing. When a PS2 game running on an emulator has better colouring with enhancements surely DTG should be able to do it in their own game?

Perhaps it's a matter of taste but I find the TSC screenshot to look terribly oversaturated and cartoony for a representation of California desert in midday. I definitely prefer the TSW presentation.

I'd agree in that I think TS looks like a cartoon and pretty naff. I do however also agree that TSW2 needs more contrast applying to it, be that bloom dialled back or such like, it has a bleached feel in some light.

    This one?
    image1.jpeg

I disagree entirely. The sun is still in the sky between the wind turbines and the angle of the side of that train to the viewer will be like looking at a big diffused mirror straight into the sun - it's going to be VERY bright (and legitimately lighting up the right-hand side of those bushes). It's leagues ahead of the awful, bright orange TSC shot which looks like it's been coloured in by a child with felt tips. The desert sun should definitely be giving things a glared, bleached out look. I spent a good decade doing trackside motorsport photography and it was always a nightmare when the weather was 'perfect' because it created really harsh light.

Just did this route and it looks very nice! One of the best rides i've did in a TSW game. I did have a few light flashing bugs, not sure it's my .ini settings. Thanks for the suggestion, it really showcases the new lighting.

Thanks. I have left my ini file untouched I want to get a feel for the lighting as DTG intended. Then slowly tweak my ini as I workout how settings change under TSW3.

I like the new lightning very much, especially the dark nights. Will post some more later on.

I also made a small clip here:

I especially like all the shadows and together with the lightning seen in the background (outside of the station itself) it looks almost real!

In case anyone needs reminding how improved the skies are vs a few years ago, I always think back to Peninsula Corridor.

Those are all promotional shots from the appropriate Steam pages. In case you aren't very familiar with the route, it still looks like this in TSW2. I know nobody talks about this route anymore despite it being one of TSW2020's best routes (probably because everyone has been waiting a bloody year for the Preservation Crew update before touching it again) but it was my most played back in the day. I only wish it could look half as good as Cajon does now. I remember specifically seeing the MP36PH-3C splash art thinking to myself just how huge of an immersion improvement a better sky system would be.

Thanks JD I can imagine it is a challenging time as you are dealing with all sorts of issues having to deal with tons of user posts about problems as well as trying to stay upto date with all the Sony/Microsoft/Epic issues. I really appreciate the hard work you all do behind the scenes Thanks. Now more images:- 20220904174916_1.jpg 20220904223232_1.jpg 20220905075645_1.jpg

One word: performance. Shadows absolutely murder frame rate; if they were rendered out to the horizon, no console and only the most monstrous PC could run it faster than a slideshow.

I think the responses on this topic may be dependent in part on where the poster lives and what he is accustomed to. For those of us who live in the southern or southwestern US or (most of) California, then blazing summer light (and haze) absolutely desaturate perceived color, giving everything a sun-baked look which some posters are objecting to- and I would expect that those posters live in Europe or other more temperate climes where sunlight is a little dimmer and colors less sun-faded.

Yes I find the new visuals really good. Just be aware that only the new TSW 3 routes have the new lighting older TSW 2 content in TSW3 will look the same lighting wise. Older routes only get dynamic weather.

Here's some of my favorite shots I've taken so far!
While dawn and dusk look absolutely phenomenal, I think the night time lighting is worth a shoutout as well! Especially on these moonlit night scenes, it just looks soo much more natural now! I've found myself playing soo many more night services now compared to before :)

So personally, I always loved bad weather conditions in TSW.
Now we got lightnings and 3d clouds and… Wow!
I haven’t taken that much shots yet, but I gotta say that I‘m quite impressed by dusk and dawn! But also the bad weather looks amazing (as my shots might show):

And here is one from Riesa-Dresden. It has the old lighting, yes… But I think it also looks amazing!

Man, they really nailed the beautiful and natural color tones with this one, that's for sure. Now graphics wise they only need to do something about distant shadows, then the rest is only up to route building.
