I've just done the scenario on the new high speed route that involves driving a dethatched ICE1 power car and the speed is limited to 140k and the LZB can only see 4k ahead. I was wondering if this was prototypical for all light engine moves in Germany or just a quirk of the ICE1 when it's really meant to run as a full unit.

Your speed is probably limited to 140 cuz it's just the locomotive probably cuz of safety reasons or there isn't a reason to go that fast. You don't have as much weight with only a locomotive, there could be other reasons too

50% of the power of a full ICE1 set but only ~20% of the weight and ~10% of the braking capacity...

Interesting, I'd have thought if it was lighter it would have more braking capacity not less. I guess because the braking is distributed throughout all the coaches

Yes, more coaches = more wheels = more brakes.

It is not only due to the brakes. Since the route runs mostly on tunnels or bridges, winds may affect the train. The train needs to have a certain minimal weight to be allowed for higher speeds on the route
