Why does everything except the rain look great about TSW3 Beautiful: Awful: Why can't you guys just fix the rain ?
Screenshots don't do it any justice. But yea it's a letdown on tsw2. They did it better in tsc. Same with snow on the screen, after it covers the screen you can see thru it with some strange looking blur as you pass objects. In rl you can't see thru snow. Maybe this is a limitation of unreal engine.
I'm 100% sure the sun will still shine through the roof of the cab and rain will still rain through the roof of stations.
It still looks like shards of glass or needles falling, too. Also needs to vary in intensity and drop size between light drizzle and a torrential downpour.
Tbh, it also sounds like shards of glass, or needles when hitting the cab too... so atleast DTG is consistent at that...
just watched the new Weather video of TSW3. I have to say the rain and snow on the windshield looks far worse then i remembered... Just look at it for example on 1:23 or 1:24 Impossible to ignore how bad this looks...wow. I wish they had improved that for TSW3 but it honestly still looks like a 2001 PlayStation effect.
But did DTG have made any changes to the rain implementation in TSW3? The only one I've spotted so far is that now rain drops splashes when hiting the ground, rest is just as it is in TSW2.
What I saw on the Training CentRE stream wasn't very convincing in cab. Hope we get a small preview on tonight's great reveal.
It's not perfect. In heavy rain it looks fine but with light precipitation it looks very strange. Cheers
They can make the rain look way better with their in-house editor. They just haven’t, unfortunately, and have left it looking like shards of glass.
The rain itself is still poor but the wet platforms looked great, however, the rain on the ballast from the German Highspeed stream I watched earlier was truly dreadful, no wonder people thought it was snow, I know it does reflect if the sun is out on wet surface but not that bloody bright! As I say, the wet platforms were spot on - the ballast lighting needs a rework when wet
The funniest thing about rain/snow on the windshield in TSW is the fact that it only appears on the glass surfaces. So after a while the windscreen and side window get totally covered in water/snow, while the body remains completely clean. This problem was clearly visible in their weather preview video as well. It looks very bad, lol.
I didn't see any lightning in an old stream I watched earlier (The German Highspeed preview), only lightning I've seen so far was the Weather Preview stream (about 8mins long) the other day and the lightning wasn't great because it didn't light up the enviroment!
To be fair that's not unheard of in real life either. Sometimes it will rain on top of you, while the other half of the sky is blue and the sun is still shining. But it was concerning how often it rained. The dynamic weather might be a bit too dynamic.
Yeah, it's happened on both streams I've seen where it has changed, maybe in their build they had something (without telling us) where if you pressed certain keyboard buttons the cycle was executed quicker or something, just to show it off. Maybe it could do with a percentage slider so there was a slim to definite chance of weather changing?
My exact thought as well, but knowing their UI hurdles it will probably never happen at least until TSW4. The default setting is far too dynamic. I believe they said the weather patterns tend to change every 20-30 minutes which is already a stretch but I understand the constraint of making the weather feel dynamic in TSW's (generally) short services. However it felt like within five minutes on Cajon we went from light clouds visible to the horizon to a full-on thunderstorm. That will really nerve me to experience over and over again. Cheers
I wonder if there's some command within UE4 which can be used in the ini settings to change the time cycle and/or random change chance?
This is the PC section of the forum so probably the most appropraite place to discuss this.....I would be surprised if there are no mods within the 1st week addressing this

The rain is also still a camera post effect and not part of the world. If you quickly move the free roam camera, you can see it. It starts to rain a second or so after the move. That’s why the end of your train is not affected by rain, only the front. This also means that rain is not localized with respect to the clouds. Rain showers would be great, where you just have rain at certain parts and also sunny segments in between, just like the real world. If you stayed at one location, such a rain shower should move through and then influence the adhesion on every track in the area until the sun comes back out and the track has dried.
My approach is when playing in the rain I use the 2 cam and constantly whip camera around, voila, no rain. A bucket for motion sickness may however be required

I can genuinely not notice any difference. I also didnt think it looked that bad tbh. Ive never really been that much of a fine details chap though.
I think the biggest problem has always been that at night with high beams on the rain was just blindingly white- I guess that’s fixed now
It must be something cultural between the British and the rain. Can´t make it look good when it saddens so many people on the islands every day.
