I have noticed whenever I create a scenario with the Class 08 as a passenger service it always sets the train up in reverse. So the long hood faces the rest of the train and the 8 key goes to the wrong end of the train for the passing camera.

Is there a way to for direction of the locomotive? Or am I possibly setting the wrong starting platform?

This is normal and right. The view forward towards the engine is very poor and restricted, which is why these locomotives are usually driven backwards. This also applies to the Class 20. However, this also means that the camera setting is based on the backward direction.

It is possible that when these locomotives drive passenger carriages, the door closing function is also mirror-inverted due to the reverse setting. Forward is forward for these locos as well, which is why settings linked to it are aligned accordingly. Even if they are usually driven backwards.
