With so many German routes in my TSC collection and no sign of this loco coming to TSW any time soon, thinking of adding the 103 to my collection. However it seems to garner mixed reviews on Steam. I'm particularly interested in how it sounds. Watched the archived stream where Matt runs it on Hamburg to Hannover but it was kind of hard to judge. So thought I would ask the audience - worth getting, worth full price or wait for a sale?
I haven't used it for a while. I remember it as being powerful and fast. The Steam version has a subset of the features found on the version sold direct through VR's site but is probably easier to get into for that reason.
I obtained the virtualRailroads version directly from their store,Vern, which is far superior of course. This apparently has had lots of operational levers and switches removed, the coach doors can't be opened by the loco, was one issue mentioned, lots of stuff ripped out, so, it might not function as their other models do, you'll have to have a look carefully, but, it's a misnomer to call it a pro-range DLC, it's just fine for AI. Cheerz. Steve.
Thanks Steve. Well actually I quite like it. Pretty much as I remember the old Protrain MSTS version - sounds are good, it looks nice and physics seem in the right zone too. The only downer is only coming with three scenarios which is a bit stingy, guess I'll have to see what's lurking on the Workshop.
Why don't you swap this loco for a different loco in a scenario that already exists? There are loads of scenarios for a BR101 which came with the routes from DTG - swap the loco for the BR103 Or Clone a Scenario and change the train. I have a scenario on Hamburg - Hannover with a Container train so I cloned to and made it an empty passenger train with the BR103 - much nicer to drive.
The stripped-down version was necessary because of the way lower price tag at Steam. If it would have been the same thing, the vR store version would not have been sold anymore. So, i removed some Expert-Line stuff from it (and unfortunately the LZB too). But it is about 80% the same as the vR store version. Same physics, same sound.
Definitely get the vR version of this iconic locomotive! For me, growing up in the late 70s and 80s, this was a definite must-have for me, also the vR DB E10 (BR110).
That's my plan Peter! Looking at something on the Rhine Valley or maybe Munich to Garmisch. Appreciate the background Maik and glad to support another one of your creations. As I said it's a lovely loco and the accompanying coaching stock is superb too. Fairly certain I had haulage behind one of these in the early 80's. Possibly D231 the Holland Skandinavien Express from Bremen where I think the train reversed to Hamburg and definitely on another trip along the Rhine Valley into Koln. Happy days!
Yes, up and running on Koblenz to Frankfurt, with a nice rake of UIC BM and AM stock behind. She’s a lovely loco Maik, as you know from my posts in the TSW forums I’m a huge fan of the 70’s/80’s DB epoch and just as I had years ago when Protrain released their MSTS Rhine Valley and 103, this is a dream come true. Now I just have to see if it’s possible to merge the two Rhine Valley routes into one…
I think Danny said that a merge was not possible of the two Rhine Valley routes ...but I might be wrong I know the Frankfurt - Koblenz was merged with Frankfurt - Manheim
Sadly looks to be the case, having looked at Danny's notes on Steam the Koln route does not share a common origin with Koblenz to Frankfurt.
It was two years ago this was started and last September was the previous reply. Either way what has your reply to do with TSC?
