So as part of the RM it was stated there is an as yet unnamed 3rd joining the growing number of 3rd party developers. The interesting part of this was that they would be bringing a new region to the game.

So who do you think it will be and what is the country?

There is rsslo with austrian content. Maybe he jumps on the tsw wave too.

I hope it's rsslo as he would probably be only option for Slovenia to come to tsw.

I have posted elsewhere, but my guess is either RSSLO bringing in Austrian content, or Union Workshop bringing in Japanese content

    Union Workshop is quite likely.

I really do hope Union Workshop joins the bandwagon of TSW 3rd parties, not just because I love Jpan, but also because it'd give us a 3rd party that specialises in a region we don't yet have covered in the TSW franchise. RSSLO would also be cool as well, but personally I'd prefer Union Workshop myself.

Curved ball here - what about the guys who have done South African and New Zealand content in TSC?

But I would be like a pig rolling in its muck if it was UW and we started to see some Japanese content. Imagine an all day timetable on the routes they have produced for TSC? That said, RSSLO would be great too, really enjoying their route from Villach to Ljublijana (sp) in TSC too.

Note that the new third party dev was specifically announced by ATS:
Anyone know of any non-ATS devs who have worked with ATS in the past?

I think that is DTG saying that, not ATS, although the way it is set out in the roadmap article does make it look like a continuation of the ATS blurb, but it isn’t in the same highlighted text, and Adam said in the live stream that DTG were talking with another partner who would bring a new country to TSW.

No, it's a continution of the ATS blurb. It's meant to be highlighted - note the asterisks around it. Why would DTG randomly start talking about "having strong relationships and a good history of working with the United Kingdom rail industry" and "developing a range of new products" in the middle of a segment about third party developers?

Must be this one. It's the only country that is truly missing in this game. Sure a lot of other countries have nice railways too but Japan is iconic for trains. As DTG also opened shop in Japan I'm suspecting it will be Japan.

Austria is still missing in TSW. For that reason, I was hoping the 'unnamed new third party' was RSSLO.

    • How are Austria railways iconic? Belgium had the first railroad of the main land, we have the most beautiful passenger station in the world but I wouldn't call Belgian railways iconic like the Japanese railways. Look at almost every video game that has trains. Most of the time it's US, GER and Japan. Even the UK does not make the cut when it comes to iconic railways.

I'm hoping it's Union Workshop (or alternatively NZTS Workshops). Austria is basically just another country in the same "Central Europe" region, right next to the things which are already in the game. I'd much prefer to get something located far away, i.e. "a new region".

I guess that 3rd party developer might be announced at the end of year stream, like it was with Just Trains.

Austria for me is too similar to German in terms of signalling for it to excite me (although I'm still likely to pick it up)

Japanese or NZ would really get my wallet open.

There are plenty of iconic railways in Britain such as the Stockton to Darlington, Liverpool to Manchester, ECML, WCML, GWML, HS1, West Highland Line, Cumbrian Coast line and the Settle to Carlisle line. That is just to name the first few that come to my head.

Overall, although the chances of buying content outside the UK is low, more 3rd parties can't be a bad thing and I know there are many people who will love the new country we will see in game.

Ehh, the SA content on TSC looks very odd and I would suspect their work wouldn't translate well onto TSW. The group who did the New Zealand stuff I feel like are too much of a newcomer to make the leap to TSW.

Union Workshop awhile ago stated they were working with the Unreal Engine to learn about it...

China is an outside possibility, though I have to say the overall quality of the routes I picked up in the TSC bundle was not great.

Russia I'm guessing not a contender due to current and likely ongoing for some time world events. A shame as they do have some interesting routes (Baikal Amur Mainline, the Karelian branches) not to mention some hellfire locos both diesel and electric and the cram them in platskart couchette cars.

I'm excited for new countries, no matter which ones.

Personal preference would be Japan just because it's so completely different to what we already have.

Someone else guessed at Christrains and some dutch content. I think there is demand for dutch content judging by the suggestions forum and past polls. Personally I'd love some Japanese stuff, I think an Asian country would be a nice change, Austria does seem to be quite similar to Germany and also Switzerland who are also in TSW.

Never heard of those "iconic British railways" I've heard of Shinkansen, TGV and ICE. The only British route I've ever heard of is the Eurostar. Routes in the UK are as iconic as the world famous route Antwerpen - Charleroi or the second most famous route Brussel - Blankenberge :D

Union Workshop China and Japan possibility
    RSSLO Slovenia and Austria
For Dutch content ChrisTrains possible first route is Amsterdam Utrecht. Phase two is the HDU if DTG/Christrains knew that HDU can be merged with HRR then HDBU
Hollandstrecke Duisburg Utrecht 156 km Hauptstrecke Rhein Ruhr 46 km. Both merged 202km Hollandstrecke Duisburg/Bochum-Utrecht

To be honest mate I have never heard of any Japanese routes and the only German and American ones I know are because I have seen them in TSW, however I am not going to say they aren't iconic as I am sure they are. Just because you haven't heard of the ECML which stands for East Coast Mainline (which considering how much a lot of us bang on about wanting it in TSW I am shocked by) it most definitely doesn't make it not iconic and although I have no clue where your from I most likely wouldn't have the foggiest idea of your countries most iconic railway however I still wouldn't be like you and say it's not iconic just because I haven't heard of it.

I'd love for it to be NZTS workshops, though I highly doubt it considering they released their first route for TSC not that long ago, and they are very small (I belive there was only 1 or 2 people working on their TSC content). I expect it will be one of the ones who do Austrian or Japanese content.

Yeah... besides he's just named the trains from each region, not the specific lines (although I know Shinkansen means new trunk line, so not quite the train here, but the point still sticks). But yeah, just because you haven't heard of a route, I agree that it doesn't mean it isn't iconic. I bet a good handful of people don't know what the Tokaido Shinkansen is, but it's the first Shinkansen line between Tokyo and Osaka (one I'd love in TSW, but sadly way too long XD), and that's most definitely iconic.

Oh yeah, I remember hearing about that a while back. Hopefully that's a good sign that they'll be the mystery third party we see!

Ive just checked Time Out Great Train Journeys Of The World (absolutely great book and worthy to be in any rail fans collection) features 3 UK routes (4 if you include Eurostar), London - Fort William by sleeper, Whitby to Pickering and Settle to Carlisle. All of which I agree with.

If it's not an Australian or New Zealand route, my second choice would be a Scandinavian line.

I realize that none of these routes are very likely, but I don't like the other suggestions in the thread, so, why not!

I'm a neighbour from over the channel (Belgium) I heard of ECML but only because of the TSW forum. Before TSW my knowledge of the British railways was that it was like the railways of a third world country. Never on time and totally broken because of privatisation. From pioneers in railways to a failed network. The only UK train I ever heard of before I played TSW was like a high speed train that made people sick when they drove it. Now that I played TSW I'm starting to get to know the British train network much better and it is actually a bit like I expected. The British railways look weird to me. The German railways on the other hand look very familiar and modern to me.

I am going to be very careful with what I say as I want a job to go back to tomorrow.
British Railways was a good concept and although many people look at the bad side it did save the railways whether you like it or not. Lateness is inevitable and can't always be blamed on the railways itself. I will just ignore your 3rd world country comment as it is complete tosh and anyone with actual knowledge of the British railway system will know that. That 'high speed train that made people sick' or what we call the APT was actually a success as although it didn't do too well itself it was a very pioneering design. If the APT is the only British train you have heard of I would be surprised as it is a very obscure one and surely you have heard of the worlds fastest steam train, Mallard and the worlds fastest diesel train the HST or Intercity 125 as it is more commonly known. The German railways look weird to me and British railways look familiar and modern to me however unlike you I am not going round calling them rubbish as I don't know enough about them to make a judgement. As for privatisation I am not going to make any comment good or bad because I am not going to risk my job.
I have no clue of any belgian railways but I will not call them 3rd world or not iconic as I have some respect for others.

    Austria:
    - runs Europe's night train network
    - has at least three vital hubs for European rail, including Villach at the meeting point of Semmering and Karawanks lines
    - along with Switzerland built some of the first serious mountain passes and tunnels in the world

Belgium: find me a non Belgian who can tell you a single thing about the railways there. I'm sorry, I don't mean to be rude but you brought the comparison up. As someone who takes many cross European rail journeys each year, Austria is an essential link between east and west or north and south; Belgium is where you go if you need to take eurostar and can't find a connection to Paris.

As an American I find all of the European railways fascinating. Brussels from what I’ve seen in pictures is beautiful. Belgium Austria holland Italy wherever so long as it’s fun with lots of trains I’m interested.

And … give me Tokyo and a Shinkansen too!

When it comes to Austrian routes you can just simply run them on all German route reason for this is that ÖBB in the 1960s decided to use PZB like Deutsche Bahn which was called Deutsche Bundesbahn West Germany. Stand at Rohrbach Bbf the ÖBB Baureihe 1116 or the reskinned Dispolok 182 the 1016 goes there towards Aachen Hbf and Amsterdam Centraal via Duisburg Hbf the last stop in Germany. Got stuck on the Hump Yard Hump like Hamburg Maschen Hannover Seelze Dresden Friedrichstadt Köln Wuppertal Köln Kalk Nord and Hagen Vorhalle using a 363 204 & G6 grab an ÖBB Baureihe 1064 Wien Kledering or Salzburg Gnigl ÖBB Baureihe 1163 to run those humps thanks to PZB DB ÖBB

It's ok to be a fan of your national railway but please keep it real. Just like only Belgians know the glorious history of their railways so do Austrians. This does not only apply to Belgians and Austrian, it also applies to British people. None of our countries have iconic railways.

You can also find people who tell you that the French are cowards, or that Napoleon is short. Although both are easily proven false by a little research, or in the former's case just a bit of critical thinking.

I sure hope it maybe is something Scandinavian as they mostly use the same trains as germany for freight but not as much for passengers

But it has nothing to do with being a fan of our national railways. I know numerous people who live in all sorts of different parts of the world, but still agree that the UK has iconic railways. Austria too has iconic railways. Just because you don't think they're iconic, it doesn't mean that they're not iconic. Sure, there's more famous railways, but that doesn't mean that the UK or Austrian railways aren't iconic. Also, to address your comments on thinking the UK railways was like that of a 3rd world country, it's simply not true. Our railways are far from perfect, but that doesn't make them like those of a 3rd world country. Also, for the train that made people sick, that was just an prototype train that was being tested publicly. The project ended with their withdrawal, but that doesn't mean it was a failure, cause the technology from the APT would go on to refined and tweaked by other train manufactures, allowing many other trains to tilt too. I'm not saying you can't have these opinions, cause of course you can, but you need to stop treating your opinions as fact, cause they're simply not. Anyway, as much as I'd love to keep proving you and your assumptions wrong, this really isn't the thread for it, and I'd prefer of we get the thread back on topic.

Yeah, something Scandinavian could be cool to see too! As you said, they're trains are quite similar to Germany, especially with freight, so it'd hopefully make getting one into the game quite a bit easier. I don't know much about Scandinavian railways, but I do there's plenty of scenic routes that'd be good to see in TSW. Idk if there's any developers that do Scandinavian routes in TSC, but if there are, it'd be great to have them on board too.

TBH unless they are tucked away somewhere I haven’t seen any. Trainz had a moderate Swedish following but most of the content is old and/or hosted away from the DLS. MSTS had a nice Norwegian route, the Merakerbanen from Trondheim to Storlien, the route where you can legitimately say you are visiting Hell! Of course, like most other countries the traction scene and train types in Scandinavia was much more diverse 30 or 40 years ago. I have fond memories of the long haul from Trondheim to Bodo, with a Di4 from Trondheim to Mo i Rana where a classic Nohab Di3 took the train forward across the Arctic Circle. How I would love to replicate that in a train sim, but the whole route is just far too long, something like 400 miles!

Part of the Narvik iron ore route would be cool too.

Ah, that's a shame then. Hopefully things will turn around in TSW and we'll see a Scandinavian dev pop up at some point. Those routes though sound like they'd be really fun to drive around on in TSW. And yeah, 400 miles is definitely too long for TSW! XD Hopefully one day though we'll see a dev doing Scandinavian stuff in TSW, and if we do, hopefully we'll see some of those come too, but until then, I guess it's just a case of wait and see.

Reading the discussion, I'm wondering whether it was said in the stream the unnamed 3rd party will bring "iconic railways" or a "new region". I think I need to re-watch it. If they actually called a neighbouring country "new region" then I'll be disappointed, but if they said "iconic railways", I'll be fine with Austria, Belgium, Netherlands...

It was not said that they would bring an iconic route. I mentioned Japan being iconic railways and now everyone declares their own national railways as iconic. The discussion is no more about which country is coming to TSW but which country deserves it the most. Don't want to be an outsider so I declare the Belgian railways as iconic. It's the most famous railroad in the world and I don't know a single person outside Belgium that doesn't marvel at our grandiose rail network. :D

Well, wherever it is located and whoever makes it, I really hope it's not another high speed route with more push and go traction.

I'm going with Chris Trains and The Netherlands as the new country.

To my knowledge Christrains only makes rolling stock, and has never made a route, though I stand to be corrected on this.

For this reason, I think its unlikely to be christrains.
