Going from a snow storm to a rain storm during a activity doesn't look realistic to me and kills the experience. Was doing a Cajon Pass activity and the weather went from clear to snowing to a full rain storm during the two hour run. How this got pass the testing stage is beyond me.
I remember once when it went from cold to hot in life and snow melted. I know not though whether elevation affects temperature on that route.
Precipitation in TSW is temperature based from day 1. If it is below 0 centigrade it snows, if it is above, it rains. The sim also has changing temperature based on time of day and elevation. So it is possible you will experience snow at the top of the Cajon Pass, while it will rain at lower altitudes. This isn't a problem. What can be an immersion issue is that the snow build-up/cleaning is just too fast, and there is no snow just after a minute of the temperature being above 0. Also the change from snowing to raining is instant, it would be great if DTG would introduced some intermittent temperatures, like from -2 to 2, where both, rain and snow effects, would be rendered.
One one run on west somerset, I had a hell of a snow storm in June. Not sure that would be usual even for the UK.
There does seem to be an intentional or accidental weighting in the direction of weather worsening, but never improving.
Maybe so, but I had a run on SEHS not too long ago in which it started out at St Pancras with overcast skies, began to rain somewhere in the tunnel and by Ebbsfleet was pouring down. Then by the time it reached Sittingbourne the rain had eased considerably and when I exited the train at Faversham, it had stopped and I was met with bright sunshine. I also had a service on CJP during which the weather deteriorated and then markedly improved towards the end. When I first encountered dynamic weather, I also thought that they had programmed it to generally deteriorate, just because they could and it was " cool ". Now I'm wondering if they haven't surreptitiously tweaked it.
marcsharp2 I attended a friend's wedding on June 1st ln Horsham, Sussex in the 1960s and we had a light but brief snowfall during the ceremony
If it was clear in valley then snowing at the pass followed by rain as you dropped down Id say it was pretty realistic personally (depending on the month clearly). If it was snowing at San Bernardino but raining at the summit Id agree that it would be an immersion killer for me also.
