I am debating between me getting the C40-8W, New journeys expansion, and something else. How is the C40-8W? Is it worth buying? Or should I get the New Journeys Expansion?

What dlc do you not have?

Honestly the new journeys expansion is kinda much better but that's my opinion. For ska, it actually turns it into a rush hour route. There's many different service patterns and you get the awesome 423. It's the same 423 from hma with minor exterior art changes. And if you have all the layers (msb, rsn i believe and some other), there's many different services (forgot the total #) so it can get pricey if you don't have other german routes. Sd40 is nice and unique train to drive even though it's the same sd40 from clinchfield but in a csx stealth livery. Just subs in. Bakerloo gives you a silver train to represent the very first train (few additional services). You get 3 scenarios per route.

C40 is a nice change to the modern locomotives in spg. It looks like an ac4400 but instead of digital displays, you get analog displays. It adds new freight cars and new services and subs into many services. Got it's usual trainings and scenarios. I don't play freight as much so can't say if it drives well or if there are issues or anything. It's got the same sounds as the ac4400 since they couldn't get new sounds for it.

I too agree. If you have a tendency to North American Freight and not much else, then the C40-8W is for you. If you prefer stopping passenger runs, then the New Journeys Expansion is for you.

Journey mode for New Journeys is ironically really short. All three locos have two chapters - the first runs through the tutorials and scenarios, with the second going through a couple of services. The BKL and SPG locos come with train-spotters as well, complete with flashing cameras! Don't expect very frequent S-bahn service at Koln - the single track section really limits how many trains can actually run. Oh, and the 423 never really utilises LZB on any service that I played.

I don't have the C40-8W, so can't comment on it.

There are two services it does for a really short distance. First is driving to Aachen depot in the evening/at night. Second is driving RE-like service for the first half and then iirc it goes onto S-Bahn line. Anyway LZB is not used much there as there's only short distance of cables out of Dueren to the west.

The most important thing about New Journeys, for me, is that besides a much livelier SKA route in general, you get a proper 423 on the S-Bahn services, not the incorrect 422 of the vanilla route.
