About Donner Pass is a 7,056-foot-high (2,151 m) mountain pass in the northern Sierra Nevada, above Donner Lake and Donner Memorial State Park about 9 miles (14 km) west of Truckee, California. Like the Sierra Nevada mountains themselves, the pass has a steep approach from the east and a gradual approach from the west. In the spring of 1868, the Sierra Nevada were finally "conquered" by the mainly Chinese laborers of the Central Pacific Railroad (CPRR), after almost three years of sustained drilling and blasting through granite, with the successful completion at Donner Pass of its 1,659-foot (506 m) Tunnel #6 (a.k.a. the Summit Tunnel) and associated grade, thus permitting the establishment of commercial transportation en masse of passengers and freight over the Sierra for the first time. Following a route first surveyed and proposed by CPRR's original Chief Engineer, Theodore D. Judah (1826–1863), the construction of the four tunnels, several miles of snowsheds, and a hand-crafted stone retaining wall 75-foot tall (a.k.a. Chinese or China Wall in recognition of the Chinese builders) necessary to breach Donner Summit constituted the most difficult engineering and construction challenge of the original Sacramento–Ogden CPRR route. I am proposing the section between Roseville and Reno with a total track length of around 213.9 km (132 mi) Rolling stock EMD GP9 EMD SD9 EMD SD40t-2 AC4400CW Possible DLC GE C44-9W EMD SW1500 EMD SD45T-2 EMD SD7 EMD GP38-2 Resources https://www.rome2rio.com/map/1166-Roseville-Pkwy-Bldg-E-Roseville-CA-95678-USA/Reno#r/Train/s/3 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donner_Pass#Central_Pacific_Railroad
A few errors here. 1. Southern Pacific never owned any SD40-2s since they went with the Tunnel Motor option for those orders. The closest thing to them in the 90s would either be the SD40R, or the SD40M-2 rebuilds. 2. The U33Cs were all off the SPs roster by the 1980s, and wouldn't fit into a 1990s era route. 3. The AC4400CW would be a more likely candidate than the C44-9W as DTG would most likely reuse the CSX model to make a SP model. This proposal seems like just a rehash of the RSC Donner Pass route from TS, which isn't a really good representation of the Southern Pacifc railroad.
Add the SD45T-2, GP20, GP30, GP35, and Alco RSD-15 "Alligator" to the list of SP diesels. I would actually prefer this route to be set in the Transition Era (1940s-50s) with an AC-series Cab Forward, SD7/SD9, and one other loco.
added the ac4400cw and have hopefully fixed the errors added them Not being an American can make finding this information sometimes difficult
Another thing is that Amtrak did operate trains on this line in the 1990s I'm not too sure what the rolling stock was any information would be appreciated
I would buy it if there was also passenger operations added to this route in one form or another. That way it covers everything.
so with new limited-use locos now being added to TSW3, i thought it might be cool if the Rotaries, flangers and spreaders could be done as DLC for this route (when it is made) Spreader flanger Rotary
What in the world is the purpose of that rotary thing? Turning cows on the tracks into instant compost?
Here's an amazing drone vid of a different snowplow on Donner Pass from this week. As soon as I saw it I thought of suggesting it here. I'd love to drive this in TSW3.
