I was just playing Sand Patch grade for the first time in a while, driving the c40 from Cumberland to Shaw mine, and I realized the loco at the entrance to Shaw, which you couple to and use as a caboose while backing down, is no longer there. Just wondering why that was removed?
I don't play a lon on SPG nor have the C40-8W, but iirc some services from cumberland use additional banking locos as help. There are to kinds of services for those locos (aside from the actual ascend): Coulpling to train at Cumbeland and going back from Sand Patch Summit to Cumberland. Maybe those are just bankers?
nope, separate thing entirely. there used to be a dead GP38-2 that sat at the entrance of the Shaw mine branch. you would couple to it for the reverse down the line, then on the way back out, you would stop before it reaches the main line and uncouple to leave it behind before continuing to the siding to move locos to the other end for the trip back to Cumberland. it didn't add any power, just supposed to serve as a standing platform for the conductor during long reverse moves.
must have been removed a long time ago, I can only find one video from 2 years ago that still has it, and the guy passes a red signal before he couples to it. but you see it on the left at 1:50:54 in this video, and it still has the couple to formation objective after he stops.
SPG was the first route I played on TSW2 (bought it early 2021 from memory) and I don't recall this ever being there. PC though, and I did almost all of SPG through Journey mode rather than Timetable so that might make a difference
The loco was removed because it was in the way of the new services for the C40 when that DLC released and it was no great loss because it wasn’t needed.
It was originally there in place of the caboose they use in reality. But as stujoy says, got in the way of the c40 addon.
thanks for the answer. bit of a disappointment not having it there, but if that's how it's got to be, not a huge loss.
