Not the best of starts for TSW3 on my system. My specs are way above the recommended system requirements for this game. I have an Asus GeForce RTX 3070Ti card, AMD 5600X processor., both running on an Asus ROG Strix X570-F Gaming motherboard. Internet connection is 1Gbps (wired connection via cable internet).

TSW3 crashes on every game played and on every route. Also, no option whatsoever to import my TSW2 profile during install if TSW3. Furthermore, the game does not shut down properly when closing it. It stays active in the background trying to close itself down. A manual shutdown using Task Manager in Windows 11 is required to shut both the game and the Steam client down. Unbelievable!

I've now had to resort to fully uninstalling and a clean re-install all of the games I have on Steam. I've also uninstalled the Steam client and reinstalled it. As this is now a work in progress, I have no idea if this will resolve this nonsensical situation.

TSW3 really is a game still in beta phase cynically being rolled out and masqueraded by the developers as a final release. I have never before had to put up with this nonsense after installing a new game in Steam. What a shameful release.

Hey, sorry to hear you've been having issues - we've not seen other players have your issue, but one of the Support team should be able to help if you follow the instructions here.

On the profile transfer, the process is highlighted here. As a quick note, you'll need to ensure your profile name on TSW3 is different to your name on TSW2, otherwise it won't show on-screen. If that's the case, please delete the TSW3 profile and the TSW2 one should appear to import.

Thanks for the reply, I'll try the options you've given. In the meantime, I'm still in the process of reinstalling all of my games on my PC. If this does not resolve the situation I'll be back in touch.

I thought profile transfer would not be available until Tuesday September 6th?

Okay, can you contact one of our Support team please - again, this feels odd.

(can I check on the Settings if you're on build #59, please?)

I've checked the build number and it is indeed Build 59.

Okay, other than what I'd mentioned earlier:
As a quick note, you'll need to ensure your profile name on TSW3 is different to your name on TSW2, otherwise it won't show on-screen. If that's the case, please delete the TSW3 profile and the TSW2 one should appear to import.

(if that is also not the case, please contact Support).

I've managed to import my TSW2 profile by deleting the SaveGame folder in TSW3. After logging in to Dovetail Live I was prompted to import my TSW2 profile.

I'll check later this evening to see if doing the clean re-installing of both TSW2 & TSW3 has resolved the crashing issue and check to see if TSW3 is still not shutting down properly when I close it. If it's not, I'll be back in touch.

    Thanks for the input everyone.

This issue now seems to have been partially resolved after having done clean re-installs of both the Steam client for PC and all games I had installed on Steam. I've now managed to run one service on the S.E. High Speed without any crashes or other issues. However, the second service crashed TSW3 just before arriving at the final destination. As mentioned previously, I've also now managed to import my TSW2 profile into TSW3, albeit using a workaround.

Unfortunately, the constant crashing is making TSW3 unplayable. A crash report has been sent with permission to contact me.

Some things you could check in the meantime if you haven't already:

Check your Geforce app and ensure latest drivers are updated. You may also want to check your settings on there to see if anything could be causing memory overoad.

Run the game and check your task manager - check to see what the CPU and GPU/RAM % are.

How much RAM do you have? the game is very RAM intensive so check your in game settings. Test 4K vs HD and visual settings to see what is comfortable for RAM and CPU. GPU probably is not an issue in this case.

Sometimes a lack of RAM or CPU overload can cause crashes. I had this with ETS2 on Steam.

This is not a question of RAM. I have 32Gb of Ram, 4 x 8Gb DDR4-3198. The problem does not present itself when playing TSW2, only TSW3 has problems with crashing on nearly every game/ route played. No other games I have installed on Steam are experiencing random and regular crashes. None.

This is not an issue with my PC setup. My system has no issues. Here is an overview of my system details and benchmarks https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/53740685

Task Manager shows nothing irregular when playing TSW3 either https://1drv.ms/u/s!Ane9CItlwMIKvuFHABgFrGBrLiXqeQ

Any error messages in "View Reliability History" (or Event Viewer) and anything in the DxDiag.txt file?

There are no error messages either in the Windows 11 Event Viewer or Reliability Monitor.

    Hi RLB,

Unfortunately, there is very little we can do to help from the forums, as we currently know very little about your computer. Therefore, we would highly recommend that you:
    1. Complete the Experiencing Technical Difficulties Guide: https://dovetailgames.freshdesk.com...000896131-experiencing-technical-issues-guide
    2. Contact Dovetail Support if you require further assistance, after completing the guide.
Thank you for your understanding, and we look forward to hearing from you.

I have noticed that TSW3 crashes after trying to access Railfan TV. Railfan TV does not open when clicked on in Dovetail Live in the menu, then after a few minutes it opens multiple tabs for Youtube in Firefox. After that, TSW3 promptly crashes! This can happen after 5-10 minutes of initially clicking on Railfan TV in the menu.

Are you running under DX11 (default) rather than DX12? I found that while with an Nvidia card, TSW2 ran fine under either, when I switched to an AMD it would crash under DX11 every time- but DX12 works fine.

TSW has always had issues with AMD products.

Thanks for the reply Chris. I've tried everything I can think of to work out what the problem might be. Unfortunately, I've not been succesful in tracking it down. If I can't resolve things my end, I'll contact Dovetail Support.

Nvidia's forum has been full of complaints about the current 5.16 drivers, which people seem to be resolving by reverting to 5.12 (or earlier). Maybe give that a try.

Also, have you verified files post-installation thru the Steam client?

Your machine will have DX12 yes, but have you tried forcing the game to launch under DX12?

Also, is your Windows up-to-date? There have recently been updates to Net framework that you’d probably need if not already done.

No, I've not tried forcing DX12. My system is fully up-to-date, including .net. I've done a new clean install of TSW3. Did a search in WIndows to track down all files related to it that were left on my system after uninstalling TSW3 and deleted them. I've managed to do 3 routes now without a crash. Hopefully, this umpteenth re-install has resolved the issue.

Good news. FYI if you wish to boot TSW3 in DX12 you need to add it as a launch parameter in Steam.

This is still not resolved and TSW3 is still crashing on every route after approx. 20+ minutes of play. Thorough clean re-installs of the Steam Client, TSW3 and the current NVidia drivers have not fixed the problem.

After every crash the following report is generated. I have now submitted a report.

A quick Google on nvwgf2umx shows that is indeed Nvidia's driver crashing. You mentioned doing a clean reinstall of the current driver. I'm going to suggest doing a clean install of an earlier version (5.12 or before). Meaning, completely uninstall the current one using the driver's own uninstall function rather than Windows' if available (my computer is off right now, so I can't check), reboot, and reinstall the older version with the "clean install" box checked if it comes up.

I‘m no expert on this, but on Google I also saw it suggested for nvwgf2umx errors to make sure your Graphic Card isn’t overclocked and that your power supply is adequate for the graphic card (though from personal experience that normally causes a complete restart not a crash).

    Chris,

I may have resolved the issue of TSW 3 crashing on every route when playing on PC (Steam). I decided to try a BIOS reset of my AMD 5600x CPU to stock/ default settings to see if that might sort things out. After resetting the CPU to its default optimised settings, I've been able to play all routes without any problems and the only crash reports being generated are those others are seeing on exiting the game. I'm aware that Dovetail are aware of the at exit crash report generation and that they're working on a fix.

I'll keep an eye on things, but so far the problem seems to have been resolved. It seems that my Asus Nvidia GeForce ROG Strix 3070Ti does not like playing TSW 3 with a slighty overclocked AMD 5600x CPU. Rather odd, as no other games, video's or system processes seem to be effected when the CPU is slightly overclocked. Nonetheless, as I don't actually require my CPU to be overclocked, I'll now leave it at its default setting in the BIOS. With the CPU reset to default, the GPU running as it always has at default and with the settings in the game set to 4K screen resolution and all other settings set to Ultra, I'm achieving an average frame rate of 85-95, even up to 125 on some routes with 4K & Ultra settings.

Thanks to everyone for your input in trying to look for a solution.

"I've now had to resort to fully uninstalling and a clean re-install all of the games I have on Steam. I've also uninstalled the Steam client and reinstalled it."
    Jeezus dude. Unnecessarily Overreact much?

    Hi RLB ,

Thank you for letting us know, and we are glad to hear that you have found a solution. System instability as a result of overclocking is not always obvious until the system is adequately stressed, and TSW 3 is particularly hard on the CPU at times. For most players, overclocking is not something we would recommend unless you have sufficient cooling, knowledge and time to test the system.

Got a new PC (i7-12700, RTX3070,4K). Installed the game and have the same problem. Constant crashes and errors. The old laptop MSI GT73 has no such problems with the game. I can't figure it out and can't get help. Thank you, I will try to use your elimination experience. I'm very nervous that I can't use TSW properly on my new PC.

Hello RLB! I want to say thank you for the idea! I suffered for a long time and experienced problems like yours. For a long time I could not find a solution. And I decided to apply your experience, but only in relation to RAM. I changed the HMP profile of my DDR5 memory to the lowest in terms of frequencies (from 6000 to 4800 MHz) and the errors stopped. Only the performance dropped a little - according to preliminary estimates, from 5 to 10 FPS.

The question remains for DTG, why is this happening and when will this problem be solved ????
