I know that the developers have done a great job in creating the game and content. But all this has one big drawback. The reason is very simple - light. It's impossible to play at night, driving in the dark is a bit annoying and you don't feel the process. You can only see the instruments and some kind of light in front. I understand that this may require developer resources. For me, this is the biggest disappointment of this game. This disappointment led to this. that I began to spend very little time in the game. I want a variety of trips at different times of the day, but the light is terrible. Below I will give examples from real cabins when traveling at night and in tunnels. (links with timecodes will be below). (Tunnels) (Night) I hope to fix this problem. Good luck in development
Here is what I have on ICE 1 with route from TSW 3. the rest of the German locomotives don't work at all... I can't open the doors. Lights don't work, etc.
The game needs better train headlights and also more scenery lights. You need to see buildings and stuff lit up in the distance so you actually see movement. Headlight flares are also still non-exsistent on most trains.
See post above. Someone has normal light. So it is possible to do so. https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/light-light-and-more-light.60022/#post-546202 https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/light-light-and-more-light.60022/#post-546244
You have to use scenario planner and put the train on a tsw2020 and tsw2 route. In tsw3, it's less bright and modders can't change the brightness of headlights
Nights driving looks very unrealistic in TSW 99% of the time. DTG needs to work on that and release a update with a fix
Hi. It IS possible for modders to change the intensity and colour temperature of headlights on certain trains in TSW. I’ve done it myself with the Class 66 and 375.
Yea. I realized after I posted it. What I meant is like the bigger lighting improvements that only dtg have the tools to do.
How? how to do it? through the UE4 editor? If so, can you tell me the instruction or video. It seemed to me that the problem was in the textures of the rails and some objects. When the snow-visibility is good and the light falls on the rails for a sufficient distance.
I edit the rail definition vehicle values with a third party program (can’t remember what it’s called as I’m away from the computer) and then I just save the file which over rights the default file. One thing I can’t fix is how far light is ‘thrown’ into the distance. It seems the only way to increase light draw distance is by making the light unrealistically bright.
I started a night service earlier and juts closed and left it as there was no station lights (which we know about being worked on) and no headlight thrown forward at all. Incidentally the new f7 Doppler (I think it was called) light is cool if you turn headlights off
I want to push this topic after some sadly really dark runs at Vorarlberg. Here is the headlight (highbeam) of a Vectron:
Hi, If you get a moment would you be so kind as to inform me what that program is, cause I'm stuck trying to do it, many thanks
This I don't understand. Though I don't know how light cones work in Unreal Engine, but in most 3D software they work by having a color, brightness and a value that means how far the light reaches (how quickly it loses brightness over distance). So I would assume it is the same for UE as well. I can't imagine there is no way in UE to make lights shine further without making them stupidly bright.
I tried to fix the light in the editor. Created a copy of the locomotive. Adjusted the light cone and light flow, changed the light distance. But still could not get this locomotive to appear in the game
Tbh, with the last update of the Vectron the light was updated and significantly improved, to such a degree that I could live with it, not fully understanding the limitations of the UE4 engine, I have to agree. Of course, better is always better, however, I like the fact that the light cone actually changes now when you switch into high beam. Most locos in TSW simply increase light intensity but leave the cone the same.
The night time light is a big part of why I don't use TSW anymore. It's that bad and always has been. Simrail instead have good light night time. I now almost only drive in the dark there. (now in winter multiplayer) Even run8 has so much better night light.
