In this suggestion I am looking at accurate period classes for Diesel Legends of the Great Western on GWE. CLASS 22 BABY WARSHIP Class 22 D6332 in BR Blue livery at London Paddington in the early 1970s. Class 22 cab layout. CLASS 35 HYMEK Class 35 in BR Blue livery at London Paddington in the early 1970s. Class 35 cab layout.
CLASS 42 & 43 WARSHIP Class 42 in BR Blue livery at London Paddington in the early 1970s. Class 42 were built by BR with Maybach power units and Class 43 were built by NBL with MAN power units but to a almost identical specification. Class 42/43 cab layout. CLASS 117 & 121 Class 117 in BR Green livery passing Hayes and Harlington in the 1960s. Class 121 single car dmu in BR Blue livery. Class 117/121 cab layout.
CLASS 123 Class 123 in BR Blue/Grey livery passing Royal Oak in the early 1970s. Class 123 cab layout. CLASS 128 Class 128 single car DPU in BR Green livery passing Southall in the 1960s. Class 128 cab layout. More types included further below.....
Certainly would like to see more locos and services in GWD but afraid it’s probably a dead rubber to be honest
Any or all of the above would be great, though I suspect the hydraulics more likely to come with a West Country route if DTG chose to do one.
If I look at this one picture for a longer time, I would say that we need a completely newly built GWE line with the charm of the 1960s. just look at the detail with the wooden construction over the rails (foot crossing). that alone has so much charm that it makes my mouth watering. It used to be that there weren't so many additional noise barriers and fences. maybe we should think about it Class 128 single car DPU in BR Green livery passing Southall in the 1960s.
CLASS 53 FALCON Class 53 Falcon in BR Blue livery in the early 1970s. Design drawings of Class 53 Falcon. CLASS 251 & 261 BLUE PULLMAN Class 251/261 Western Pullman 8 car set in reverse Grey/Blue livery at Keynsham in the early 1970s. Former Midland Pullman 6 car set in reverse Grey/Blue livery in the early 1970s. Class 251 cab layout.
I would love this as a dlc but I think it should also be an extension to Oxford for proper running with the rolling stock and so it would make sense.
I am by no means a western lad but this suggestion has got my mouth watering. A very good bunch of ideas mate.
Most of the stations had large goods yards at that time and there were a few extra branch lines as well. It had a lot of variety in those days.
Thanks, I have longed to see many of these in game as most are long gone in reality and this could give us a way to experience them, especially if the various projects to recreate some of them comes to nought.
If there's one think I've noticed about dtg over the years, it's the fact they don't like making routes with variety. Nice suggestion though.
It would be a DLC for a DLC of a DLC. That’s not going to happen. I’m all for more BR stuff and more old diesels but I would want them with new routes too, not just as a loco DLC for GWE and I think that’s the only way we are going to see them anyway.
With locomotive dlc being effectively decoupled from routes as mentioned by Matt Pedleston, it should mean that these would not necessarily be dlc for dlc of dlc. It is just that the selection suggested would possibly fit best on the named route due to location and era portrayed.
So you're suggesting they make locos without timetables? The timetable would be needed to include all of the relevant classes and that's what makes it a DLC rather than a loco standalone This was much easier in TSC because all of the scenarios were standalone, but in TSW the timetable system doesn't really allow for that Or it could be that locos / MUs are very hard to build. There are quite a few route builders out there, a lot less so for people making powered assets. I doubt they're all not wanting to make variety
We really need something like this in the simulator. For a change, a history route that reaches as far as London. It would be a wonderful Addon for those who already own Spirit Of Steam. Even the era of transition where Steam was replaced by Diesel. Great Western main line 1950: You would then be able to drive perfectly with diesel and steam trains on 1 route, and it is also super cool.
I don't know why dtg didn't set liverpool to crew a couple of years later when you would have had both steam and diesel traction.
Definitely agree with this, especially if we were to also get a lot of the branch lines that no longer exist such as Maidenhead to High Wycombe, Uxbridge Vine Street, Staines West and Brentford Docks. The stations at Henley on Thames and Windsor and Eton Central were also far larger than today.
This suggestion makes me want a 1960s GWML (maybe 1962-1964) from Paddington - Oxford, where a mix of Steam and Early Diesel could run the Intercity,Regional and Freight Routes
A 60s western region route would work if in devon as personally it needs to be included and would theoretically work.
"Diesel Legends of the Great Western" Would be much better on an older route adapted to the new Train Sim World 3 standards. So many different trains in 1 route. Depends on the time period of the route, one in which as many trains as possible. Class 47 Class 52 Class 166 Network Southeast Class 43 HST Intercity Express Class 50 Class 53 Class 31 Class 45 More photos from back then (especially the platform in the first photo at the bottom, seems interesting).
Excellent idea and in the late 1970s you should have the HST but with the Paxman Valenta engines which is present in TSC but not TSW 3
