It is to light/watch the fireworks and celebrate bonfire night remembering what was attempted in parliament many years ago
To expand a bit on Nathans explanation it is a commemoration of the failed gunpower plot in 1605 where Guy Fawkes attempted to blow up parliament and assassinate the king at the time who I can't remember the name of from the top of my head.
As a dog owner, it's time of the year that I loathe. All the cretins setting them off x days early, probably don't even know the significance. "Duuuuuurr fireworks." They just know it's that time of the year, and somehow manage to not shoot themselves in the face.
Personally, fireworks are hit and miss with me, they are wonderful to look at don't get me wrong, but for me, the sound they make lets me down because I'm not a fan of loud noises but as long as they don't last for long, I can cope with the noise. Where I live, we got some from a neighbour and someone from the other side of the village also set some off, all ended by 8pm though, so I got some peace in bed, yayyyyy
I got lucky too because I had to go to work today and got home latish after watching the football in Nottingham so expected the small group of youths in the village to be letting them of but instead we had two set of by the village idiot at about 9 which weren't too bad.
Must be a universal thing. People here start blowing off their July 4 fireworks a few days early and for a few days after. The 4th itself is the loudest, but it's late to sleep for about that whole week.
This. Our cat gets absolutely terrified but luckily has managed to teach herself how to open the drawer under the bed and hides in there. Problem comes trying to get her out. Half the people letting them off probably don't even understand the historical events they are celebrating anyway. Personally I am all for banning the domestic sale of fireworks and restricting to organised displays, whether Guy Fawkes or New Years Eve.
TBH, I think people should require a license for fireworks because of all the chaos that has happened with them recently. It will also help with fire safety and will attract more people to the actual organised events
I knew it was somewhere in the Irvine area, absolutely fantastic, Arbroath was meant to have a display at Condor, our Royal Marines base, but was cancelled due to money I believe, but what's worse is my village was also going to hold one, but that must have been cancelled too, I don't know the full reason why though
Edited the post above to take out some personal information, sorry to everyone who seen it... All you need to know is I live near Arbroath, that's it...
