Never noticed this before today, so think this is a new, wasnt just a one off either, this was all the way along the road into San Bernardino. No mods and a virgin INI engine config
The ‘road’ the vehicles use and the scenery road we see are separate things and rarely match up. It’s most noticeable when there are roads close to the tracks and obviously stands out more when the difference is huge but it’s quite normal for TSW vehicles. Sometimes they fly, sometimes they sink into the ground, and every now and then the wheels meet the road perfectly.
Its immersion breaking, we shouldnt *have* to ignore it, or accept it happens on all routes. It shouldnt be happening.
I agree. It seems that spawning and animating road traffic accurately is just too difficult with the current tools. I can't think of a single route where it doesn't look somewhat cartoonish; even my beloved SPG suffers from awkward looking cars and trucks, though the ubiquitous school buses actually look OK, as do the static pickups. If you focus on these imperfections, you'll lose your immersion, so it's best to just avert your eyes and concentrate on driving the trains. When the road traffic is only in your peripheral vision, it looks acceptable.
I think it's priority No. 1254 in the list because doesn't affect the gameplay like stuttering, scenarios etc.
Thank you for raising this again, I have bumped the older report on this and created a newer one to raise awareness on this issue.
I remember when DRA came out there was a road where the cars sank into the road and the road had a very reflective wet texture in the rain so it looked like the road was flooded and cars were continuing to drive through what was now more like a canal. It looked rather cool.
The Cutoff mountains, the poor ground textures and flora in the Pass itself. A missing highway bridge. The invisible camera walls being extremely close to the tracks. A notable landmark in San Bernardino in the game files, but not on the route itself.
All these, and of course the lack of shading and generally poor look of the ballast, which you were perhaps referring to under ground textures. Although, with that being said, for me the flying cars are pretty high up the list. Especially heading out of San Bernardino, the roads are pretty close to the tracks for miles and the cars are hard not to notice. It does seem to affect CJP more, if only because there are many vehicles visible from the train and the route itself is relatively long.
Yes, these are the important issues for me, much more than the quality of the road traffic, which is never great in TSW anyway. I'm bothered by the lack of adequate vegetation in some areas and the ballast in others. Not bothered enough to prevent me from enjoying the route, but I hope it gets some polishing in the future. And some more dlc to flesh out the gameplay.
It's been happening ever since TSW 2020. On Main Spessart Bahn for example. It's occuring issue with most simulators (including ATS, MSFS etc)
Cars fly, cars sink into the ground (just yesterday I noticed sinking cars and a 75% submerged fogman's hut in SEHS), not game breaking, but annoying. For me, at least.
