Talk about missing the point, this is clearly going straight over your head.

I’m glad you enjoy cats and they make you happy.

Yes you're correct I buy TSW for the enjoyment of driving trains along real routes. If the Donkeys and Collectables and other little touches comes as extra then I have no problem with it. On SEHS one the route builders even put a cat in her house that was modelled along the line. Should we moan at her for that?
On the Three TSW 3 core routes there are benches placed along the routes in remembrance of one of the DTG staff who passed away earlier this year, should that not be in there?

I have no problem whatsoever with little touches that the route builders designers or planner put into a route. Whether I have paid £30 for the route or not.

Aren't there different artists for different things on the route. Like 3d modelers, 2d artists, environment artists and like those for creating miscellaneous stuff like collectables and station clutter?

Yes, that will most likely be the case, mainly for efficiency.

Well the cats cheered me up.
Our cat spent the weekend at the vets having contracted hepatitis.
I had no idea the cats were there so I was delighted to find the one at Four Oaks on Saturday morning.
Do all stations have them or just those listed in the thread (Four Oaks, Aston, Alvechurch, Blake Street, Shenstone)

OK, I surrender. Bring on the cats, dogs, rabbits, hamsters and guinea pigs, what have you. Oh and would you give all those cats a litter box, please.

Speaking of animals, where are the pigeons and seagulls. Shouldn't they be perching on station rooftops and strutting about the platforms, hunting down all the dropped and discarded potato chips that are all over the game? ;)

I'd quite like less collectibles but them to be different things

A crew working on a train
    Someone prepping a train
Something new at a station (a band or something)
    Football supporters boarding a train
    True to life maps
    Baggage train driving
    A moving digger

I'd prefer collectibles that add something as well as the fun stuff, the mastery for example are good, but I can't poke around them and have a look.

more things you can interact with, more dioramas . I love some of the collectibles but some of the electric boxes that are half way between stations and you have to be going the right way boils my urine, as does (and I can't be arsed here) to do Kassel ans stop at 50 tunnels:

    I'll stop now.

I'd rather not with the current cat models they have... They look like a creepy 19th century toy.

Lol you jest, but i think ambient wildlife like that would add to immersion quite a bit. Even just insects swarming around lightpoles on summer evenings, or a flock of geese crossing the sky from time to time.

    Where location appropriate of course.

Actually, I wasn't joking about the birds. They really should be in the game. Maybe they're hard to model.

But yes, ambient wildlife is fine, barking dogs, bleating sheep, lowing cattle, whinnying horses etc. Even MSTS had its deer on the tracks, which always seemed to dodge the train at the last second.

But please, no more green dinosaurs.

I don't think it's the poly count that is the problem (far higher than a PS1 or PS2 game, and even more than Primary the cat (real name) from Gran Turismo I uploaded earlier), but rather how it's modelled. The proportions are way off, especially the mouth which is far too wide.

Not being enamored of passenger runs (due to my lack of skill), I' haven't bought this route and thus would never have seen these cats (including Jamy's), so I'm grateful for this thread --( well, except for the usual interfering grinches).

Two cats at a railway station, one says “Go and buy two return tickets to London” and the other replies “Me, How?”

Saw two cats, made a thread. Got directed here... Just to see people moaning about cats because god forbid people should find enjoyment in anything.

Nope, seeing it quite clearly. Cats were put in as a bit of fun, Instead people moaned because the DLC has bugs instead of just enjoying the little additions.

The point I’ve made repeatedly is that if they had time to put cats on the route then they had time to finish the scenery on the Redditch branch. In not doing so to me they’ve shown how all over the place their priorities and management are.

Also, I have to question the priorities of people paying £30 for a Train Simulator who overlook the many issues with this route yet get excited by some poorly modelled & textured cats.

By all means put the cats in, but finish the blinkin route properly first.

    • The cats are a bit of fun, something to look out for. Wee bit different to completing scenery, and how people spend their money is up to them. If something brings someone joy who are you to try and take it away from them just because it doesn't match up to your standards.

I've never seen cats spark as much discussion!

Thelonius16 I hope you and Butters have enjoyed the cat hunt! (Butters looks very cute, btw).

I personally love the addition of something a little different, and I think there are enough people in this thread who say they enjoy it to justify its inclusion. Understand what others are saying though.

For context - on the subject of focuses for the team, different art teams (character, environment, loco, etc.) look at different things - like collectibles, these are nice flourishes, and generally added at the end of the development process.

...something else interesting to this cat thread: last summer "Stray" was released. It was the first and only game so far in which a cat plays the leading role, in a futuristic "Cyberpunk 2077" world. Played it through on PS4 and had a lot of fun with it. I think some game designers at DTG did that too, that's why we have so many cats in BCC now. ;)

I think my partner would love this game. I’m not sure what our cat would think of it though. I’ll tell them both about it later, they are both out at the moment, one at a meeting and the other probably lurking in somebody else’s back yard looking for mice. Not sure what time the cat finishes his meeting though.

Great game, enjoyed it too.

I hadn't noticed the cats on BCC until now, but I met Gavin earlier and as a cat lover (we have some ourselves) I was very happy.

Btw, BCC is still fun and together with the different branches of the route, the great lighting (especially at dawn and dusk) it just looks great.

Maybe it's a loose nod to The Railway Cats by Richard Piccaver,
Not much info out there on him but known to paint lots around the NYMR

I think there are a couple on the updated SEHS in TSW 4 and there are one or two on Peak Forest as well.

There's one sitting on top of something (can't remember what right now!) at Retford Low Level (Sheffield bound platform), another is sat on top of the ticket machine at the entrance/exit at Newark Northgate off platform 1, there's another near the cafe at another station too, it's a nice little touch, would really like to know how many there are supposed to be intotal!

If you can place a Cat. Then you can place scenery. Get the routes, to be the best they can be. The fact we still dont have people outside of the station environment, leaky tunnels, bare scenery sections.
The fact that in a Train Simulation game. Someone would choose placing an animated Cat with its own name tag over running some spline fencing or cable trunking, makes no sense to me. Its just weird.

It's been clear to me for some time that all the major decisions concerning TSW have and are being made by ailurophiles.

What else are we to make of all those scenery gaps, pitch black nights and one-paw trains? Cats love that stuff. As a matter of fact, I'm sure I saw a large ginger tom happily driving a 375 through Clapham Junction the other night. Won't even mention MP's cat-ear headphones and the constant, cringeworthy mention of JD's cats on the streams.

It's been proven that dog lovers like me have much more engaging, outgoing and adventurous personalities than the introverted, furtive and rather lazy cat owners.

Plus you're much more likely to meet that certain someone while walking a dog. Dogs like us humans. Cats, from my experience, couldn't care less about us. You're just food and water to a cat. And they're so picky about their food.

The day will come, my feline friends, when man's best friend will rid this game we love of every smelly, feral, rodent- loving cat and TSW will once again be ruled by human beings. Then, and only then will scenery sit square on the ground, nights will be properly lit and trains will need more than one paw to drive them.

You know nothing about cats, nor do you seem to have ever taken a serious interest in them, otherwise you wouldn't be parroting such regular slogans.

And the fact that a dog owner puts himself above those people with cats, thinking he is better and more efficient, really says a lot about that person.

Where would we go if we had fun here? :D

If your post was meant ironically and I overlooked that, then I don't want to have said anything.
There are actually supposed to be people who see it that way. ;)

    But back to topic:

I don't think there would be any other (more) train scene in TSW without these cats. They're just a nice gimmick. But: There are actually many stories about cats at train stations, especially in Japan.
