Greeting all, recently, while playing TSC I was driving an AP class 156 on the BML (We don't ask questions, I was bored and free drive exist ) While driving I then thought... Hang on a second this train is really cool, imagine this but in TSW on its actual route in modern day? Well here is the result: Introduction: The esk valley line, located in the north east of England, is a 30 mile (48 km) line running from Whitby to Middlesbrough on an extremely historic and scenic route. Now, for the NYMR It is a heritage railway between Whitby and Pickering which is 6 miles (9.7km) long. ESK VALLEY: Station list: Main route: -Whitby -Ruswarp -Sleights -Grosmont -Egton -Glaisdale -Lealholm -Danby -Castleton Moor -Commondale -Kildale NOTE: After Kildale the line splits, One continuing up to to Middleborough the other going to battersby. Battersby "branch": Station list: Battersby Back to the main line!!! -Great Ayton -Nunthorpe -Maton -James Cook -Middlesbrough Righto there is the station list, How about a map to clear any confusion up? Shall we get on with the rolling stock? Class 156: The class 156 "super sprinter" Is a DMU (Diesel Multiple Unit) with 2 cars per unit. This train uses two safety systems: AWS and TPWS. There are currently 52 northern class 156's in operation. Class 158: The class 158 "express sprinter" is a DMU (deisel multiple unit) with 2 cars per unit. We can merge this into TVL if it was in 80's, as we currently have a bit of the Esk Valley Line in TVL (it's that little branch that goes out of Middlesbrough, check the map btw!)
NYMR is a fair bit more than 6 miles and I believe there's only one A4 in steam (Sir Nigel Gresley) which as a matter of fact I have just seen a couple of hours ago on the ECML. Not a bad suggestion mate.
Why not set this in 1989 that way Esk Valley Line can merge with Tees Valley Line. Esk Valley Line Gives Pacer to Tees Valley Line
Methinks that if this line was made and it wasn’t made with the Class 142 Pacer as the train of choice there would be riots on the forum. Alternatively, the route could be made with the 156 and have a Pacer as a loco DLC, but I’d prefer it to be the magnificent bus/train as standard.
Ah yes.. The famous pacer debate... I'd say it would be good loco DLC for the route rather then included.
My opinion on Pacers: Sprinters>Pacers because ride quality mainly, comfortable seats on Sprinters compared to bouncing about all the time on the Nodding Donkeys (Pacers) and one (Sprinter) has the characteristics of a train, which should be on rails and the other (Pacer) has the characteristics of a bus, which should be on the roads In terms of the Esk Valley in 1989: The 156 Sprinter as base train The 142 Pacer as DLC The 101 as a layer That's my opinion on Pacers and where they stand versus Sprinters and I would love a Pacer, but as DLC, never a base train except for Riviera Line (Modern)
Oh yes I remember, the main reason I avoided the past era route is because of the 101, Personally a 1989 route would just be yet again another old fashioned boring Northern routes like the other 2 already in the game, Hence why I suggested the modern era instead
The 101 can get boring, good on you for suggesting modern day, but others will argue that they want Pacers, EVL in TSW in 1989 could work if the 101 wasn't layered in with the Pacer as DLC, then it's a win win
The wonderful thing about TSW is that you decide how comfortable your seat is. It’s mainly because of how bad they were that makes them a must have for a train simulator. I think I have only travelled on a Pacer twice (a there and back on a day trip) and it was not an enjoyable experience other than the novelty of it looking like the buses I was familiar with. Driving one from the comfort of your sofa or gaming chair would be much better than being a passenger in real life. Included in a route or a DLC I don’t really mind, I just want to drive the thIng. And this route would be great whatever train it comes with in reality.
Yeah, train simulators don't prove how comfortable the seat is as it isn't the real thing, like I say, I would love a Pacer in TSW, regardless of region, operator and class
Esk Valley and NYMR would be great whether as an extension to TVL or standalone. Would agree the 156 (properly done, not Riveted) would be my preference for the primary traction if only because, as I suggested in my Sprinter Route thread the other day, it could/can be seen in many other locations. A Pacer would be a good second train or more likely a DLC, these days.
Would love to see this, although the route is not notable for high speed running or high frequency services. I stayed in a cottage with a view of the line near Whitby in the summer. There were 5 regular service trains most days, either 2x156 or 156+158. Four trains per day joined the Whitby line from NYMR at Whitby. Due to s steam ban these were hauled by either Class 31 31128 or Class 37 37403. This would make a good layer. There are a number of steam locomotives at the NYMR which are allowed to go to Whitby, but not a Jubilee or 8F so far as I am aware.

Beautiful line. I went to the NYMR by train once and the ride from Boro to Goathland was slow but every bit as as enjoyable as the time I spent on the heritage line. The NYMR is pushing 20 miles long BTW and also runs trains between Whitby and Battersby. There are six A4s preserved in some form or other. I believe Sir Nigel Gresley is the only member of the class actually operational at the moment.
