Coming soon to Train Simulator Classic is the General Electric 6,000-horsepower E60 electric in Amtrak and NJ Transit, plus all-new Amtrak Amfleet I equipment! Read More : A Giant of an Electric (dovetailgames.com)
Nice to finally have the E60 on TSC, and by Reppo as well? This is gonna be a good loco. A very nice surprise this Wednesday morning.
I'm pleasantly surprised by this announcement. I have no experience with this equipment whatsoever but always in support of having more passenger equipment close to home. Reppo being behind this, is a huge plus. New Amfleet cars with a decent passenger view for once is a bonus. NJT Livery. Hell yes!! Though my only gripe is the comet equipment still appears to be the same we've been receiving since their introduction years ago. Would have preferred older variants. But this is great news. TSC for the win.
Looking forward to this. Hopefully we'll get reskins for the private railroads that used E60s... I might make a private railroad myself for it.
I definitely can't wait for this! But at the same time, I'm disappointed that it doesn't include any Heritage Fleet passenger cars for the long-distance trains. I think it also should've at least included the Phase III AEM-7 as a bonus.
This is wonderful, and the locomotives look great! Interesting the rolling stock is a bit mis-matched for both liveries; the (rebuilt) Phase III Amtrak E60MAs pretty much only ever hauled Amfleet I equipment on the "Clocker" runs between NYP and PHI. Their main role was the long-distance trains between NYP and points south. The earlier (Phase II) E60s did haul regular, conventional Amfleet consists between WAS and NHV. And the NJT version didn't last in revenue service into the era of the Comet IV and V equipment. I'm not even certain that I ever saw an E60 with Comet III cars--only Comet IIs. Now we just need an updated AEM-7 in Phase III and IV!
Can the E60 locomotive work on the combined North Jersey coastline Morristown Hudson Long Island Railroad the end Northeast Corridor New York Penn Station to New Haven Workshop route or not?
You might be thinking about the New Haven / GE E33: https://forums.dovetailgames.com/th...test-week-46-november-2022.62026/#post-572209
Yeah. Like I said, it definitely would've been great if Reppo had added the Heritage Fleet equipment in Phase III. Particularly the sleepers and lounges.
Correct, that the one with nickname "pooch", it's just far from "E60" or the NEC In any event, indeed, that's available for Miami - West Palm Beach. Fun distraction from the F7 and F40 universe.
One loco at a time, you can either have a few quality pieces of rolling stock, or lots of mediocre stock. Frankly I'm impressed we're even getting new Amfleets, I would've expected and been perfectly happy even with just the old DTG Amfleets in Phase III livery. Shoving in the heritage cars or a reskinned AEM-7 just doesn't do anything for me. Especially consider some of the former exist in other Amtrak DLCs, and the latter already has reskins available. I'm much happier seeing them put the reskin effort into giving the E60 a NJ Transit livery. And if they had more time for reskinning frankly I'd much rather see that effort go into making more liveries for the E60 itself.
Ive been hearing a bunch of mixed reviews from the NEC rivet counters about the Amfleets though. -Some say they are still too short, like the older ones -Other say the interior is incorrect for the time period.
Now i remember!!! and man, i went all the way back to the very beginning...MSTS! Thats where I last saw the E60 in Train Simulator! Im gettin old...
From what I know about the current amfleets, they are the same height as the shoreliner coaches. Amfleets are 12 feet and 8 inches tall.
Most US passenger cars measure 12' 6"- 12' 10" in height from the top of rail, average 10'-6" wide (usually thinner over the thresholds) and about 85' long. I use to study to design rail cars in high school and collage. This includes Shoreliners, Silverliners, Comets, Arrows, and most single level MUs. Amfleets and Heritage cars (the latter basically being Shoreliners/Comets) included.
Yup, some of the EMU's like the M7/M7A and M3A measure 12' 11" - 13ft. I have always been interested in the comparing the heights of the MU's, EMU's, locomotive hauled railcars compared to the slightly shorter BMT/IND/IRT subway cars of the NYC subway. Interestingly, the HVAC hump above the Comet V railcar adds a bit of height compared to the earlier comet railcars. The pantagraphs on top or some of the EMU's like the M2/M4/M6/M8/ Arrow and silver liner fleets are 14' 3" from rail to roof including the hump for the AC components
