So - have you ever been driving on the BML, noticing that for some reason the gangway is slightly dirty? Ever wondered what on earth happens at Stewart lane or Lovers Walk for this to happen? That's right: There's zero maintence done on trains.

Welcome one n all to another suggestion: Going to step out of my comfort zone and do a genuine Gameplay suggestion for once. Todays suggestion is a Maintence Mode - Now, I get that the name "train" sim world sort of feels like just driving? But I feel like only having driving and passenger options (especially for those who cant afford much dlc so they stick with base game and only a few other routes) Can over time slowly begin to drain so What about a new FREE addition to TSW3 where you can: Clean, Wash and repair any trains.

Routes this would be available on:
Let's be real - There is no chance we are getting old gen TSW routes with this so TSW3 routes only, To simply that is:
    SEHS
    SKW
    CJP
    SOS
    BCC
    Bremen
    +All future TSW routes

    Different styles of gameplay:
Now there would be multiple different modes of gameplay making this really interesting: We will start with more simple tasks slowly going to more difficult ones:

    Cleaning:
Straight forward this one: Basically you will go into the first person perceptive and you will have to gain different types of cleaning supplies - As you guessed you would have to clean the entire train: Now how this would work? Simple really: Now its a bit... bland but after getting supplies you enter a similar layout to the Livery Designer where with the current train you need to clean any "dirty" or "unkept" places - when cleaned you will clock out.

    Repainting:
Basically the same as the previous but instead with paint tools and any areas where paint is dulling you can hold and move your mouse (Hold a controller button the the joysticks - Not a console player) to paint over places - You need to select between a set colour pallet (depends on route) and getting it wrong will decrease the AP you gets.

    Repairing:
NOW WE GET A BIT COMPLECATED. Repairing is hard to explain really: My thoughts is that (this is actually done in first person) you need to go under the train and you need to well do the Ui pull thing on any broken things to repair them (Or just press them depending) until they are all gone but you can also mess up and break other things which - Reduce AP (UI settings can show you which parts you need to fix: Toggleable)

    Retiring:
This one is fairly complicated: Basically you need to scrap the trains by Making sure they are ready to scrap: Turning off all there engines and machines, Making sure they aren't overly Moist/Humid. You can change all of this with simple mechanics along the vehicle.

    Releasing:
This is my personal favourite - Basically for this one you act as a sort of signaller where you can check for everything and dispatch and let trains enter the depot making sure all signals are fine - More sandbox if anything but using realistic timings n whatnot.

    Finishing Touches:
Bit of a weird one: This is just an idea itching at the back of my head for ages now and I thought today (Been working on this suggestion for about 5 hours over 2 days now) finishing up everything - Kind regards.

That's actually a really good idea. I'm surprised no one thought of this sooner. :D:D:D

Bring it on and in German routes you will have to bring them inside a Bahnbetriebswerk BW. Exting ones in game are BW Aachen Hauptbahnhof this is where the tutorial for DB Baureihe 442 Köln Aachen version starts on SKA and the route also has Bahnbetriebswerk Köln this one has a working turn table and is electrified. Additionally there are
BW Essen & Duisburg HRR BW Dresden Altstadt DCZ & Nahverkehr Dresden & BW (Bahnbetriebswerk) München Pasing Hauptstrecke München Augsburg one of the scenarios actually start here. These are the only ones I know of someone else have to add existing ones
    Pictures BW Aachen Hbf

    BW Köln Hbf

US these are the Ones I know
    CSX Cumberland Shops
White Plains yard Metro North Harlem Line
    Long Island Railroad Arch Street
    Southampton St NEC Boston
    Caltrain San Jose CMF

Yeah uhh - Most people try and go really complicated for most gameplay - Something like this is something not many people think of but still very good non the less.

So those gangway doors on the front of the bombardier units are nicknamed ‘fly doors’ for the main reason that they are covered dead flies, and technically it isn’t the fitters job to clean them during maintenance. They only really get cleaned if they’ve been sprayed, or sometimes under some circumstances (not naming what) when it is required for them to be deep cleaned. I like the idea, but that’s generally not what happens in the real world. Selhurst (and Streatham Hill), out of Selhurst, BSL and lovers walk, are the only depot to complete actual exterior cleaning without the use of the train wash.

I think there is a good shout for the option to do maintenance but it is VERY difficult if you want to get accuracy and realism. Some very easy task are okay to do, but overall it would be way too difficult to do that in a driving simulator.
Maybe having a spin off game similar to train mechanic would be a good idea? Because I really do like the idea. Then having a shunting element involved would also be good fun. :)

No problems and the reason why I knew that is that I used to have Märklin Catalogues and American Model Railroader magazines which I'll explain why I use terms there.

Well said and when you play it in game you are actually going through the train wash.

I think maybe a good idea would be implementing a potential cleaning in the train wash for anything that is excessively dirty in game? I don’t know how easy that would be or how well utilised it will be, but maybe a nice compromise.

How far would they go into this mode. Spend too much time on it and it might as well be its own separate game. Cuz it does seem like a lot of different jobs to do for each train and then make it unique for each. You have to make most or all stuff interactable, have different effects, textures, etc so you end up spending a lot of time on it. Also need a team to work on this full time. And then have to include it for each tsw3 dlc.

That’s why I think have a separate game. It’s too much for all of this plus consoles wouldn’t keep up. They struggle as it is to be able to get the add ons in a stable condition on release.

This sounds really harsh but I feel like partially one of the reasons tsc is debatable better then tsw is its lack of limitations- I love letting people play tsw but hypothetically removing console opens new doorways. That's my yearly hot take.

Apologies, didn’t mean to sound harsh. I do agree TSW is very basic and has potential, but because they are wanting to achieve as close as to reality as possible, I don’t think it’d be possible with maintenance. Cleaning maybe, but as a fitter myself I know that to achieve the possibilities that make it as close to reality as possible it will be very difficult to add that onto the original sim on TSW.

On a related note, we should also have Sunday mode where you can work engineering trains in and out of T3 possessions, operate a tamper or rail grinder etc.

Ironically the harsh part was more referring to me not liking console existing due to limitations haha - your point was very valid haha.
