Thinking about getting this route , but interested which route people think is better TSC version or TSW3 ?
TSC version is above your average TSC standard. TSW version is below your average TSW standard. Additionally, TSC has quite a bit more RhB narrow gauge routes, so if you're planning on building up a collection of RhB routes and rolling stock, TSC is the way to go. That said, TSW is, in general, more advanced than TSC. Graphics, looks, features, etc. Which makes your question a complicated one to answer. Despite the flaws TSW Arosa has, it might still be better than TSC Arosa. It all depends on what's important for you, I guess.
Yes I do like TSW very much , but regarding this route , it looked like from Steam reviews the TSC version is better . But visually the screen shots from TSW version also look very good, like you say not a straight forward choice!
I was toying with this in the sale, or LGV Med which is only a fiver, but aren't the sounds still a bit rough? The coaches supposedly sound like they were sampled from an Aldi shopping trolley. Also doesn't the loco start moving with the infamous Rivet jerk?
Sadly, yes. Though if you can get it on a sale, it's a fun route, if you ignore the ugly distant mountains.
I own both. The TSC version is above average as far as TSC routes go (but not the best one out there, mind you. Konstanz - Villingen looks better for example). It has the added advantage that more rolling stock is available. It comes with one of the more modern EMUs that runs on the route, while the TSW version comes with the older loco hauled stock. The loco hauled train is available as a separate purchase for TSC. One very cool feature of the TSC version is the adapted catenary system, which causes the pantographs to be pushed down when entering a tunnel and raising again when you exit a tunnel. The sounds leave a lot to be desired. The EMU has an annoying sound that sounds nothing like the real units. There are no station announcements. The TSW version looks slightly better, but below average for a TSW route. The loco always starts with a jolt, which is not at all how the real life loco behaves. The EMU is not available for TSW; you're stuck with the old loco hauled trains. There's only one loco. There are less scenarios available for the TSW version. Thanks to TSW's lighting engine, the festivity lights on the route look awesome in the dusk or dark. Snow storms look more realistic too (compared to the TSC version that is). Both version lack in some departments. For instance: in reality, for a big part of the year, the tracks are covered with snow and have to be ploughed clean daily. This means that the snow is level with the top of the rails, making the track look almost like a tram track in the snow. The snow should be piled up at the track sides. Both versions suffer from the problem that the tracks seem to be laid on top of the freshly fallen snow, making it look very unrealistic. Road traffic on the road running sections is unrealistic and scarce.
Buy the TSW version. It is quite good. The big minus is the distant mountains do not look very good in sunny weather, but if weather is not so good they look OK. You get about 80 timetable drives, so a lot more gameplay than with TSC, including the weird run around procedure in Chur which is realistic. There also is a nice Xmas addon with additional liveries. It is not the best route, but it is OK.
Thanks everyone for your comments , I watched the TSW video of the route looks not bad , but also agree that the distant scenery could look better. Pros and Cons with each version I guess , that I’ll have to weigh up .
Driving on the Arosalinie in TSW, uphill; feels more like a tram than a train. The cruise control is a bit of an overkill and not to mention the infamous jerk ( better depart with an external camera ). Downhill is a 'dynamic brakes saga'. Totally worth a try. Route is okay with the exception of mountainside trees. Not a Swiss so can't comment ( doesn't care ) on how accurately the route is depicted in the game. The big arch bridge and quaint stations were the selling point for me ( plus it's narrow gauge ) !
The most funny thing on Arosalinie for TSW, is the "complete silent environment", no birds singing, no car sounds (except for the buses at Chur) and no "people mumble" at stations. That is the biggest flaw with this route. Walking around in Arosa feels like you are deaf... And I doubt Rivet going to fix it...
Having a blast, yes. It requires quite a bit of skill and judgement especially approaching stations or the odd level or less steeply graded section on the hill. Probably overcautious as I'm currently running about 4' late from Langwies.
TSC has had much higher "overall wow effect" for me on RhB routes. I returned TSW's version after 2 hours of playing and didn't regret that. It was not even as good as TSW's GWR heritage railway.
