What makes this route special. I don't know anything about it along with most of the other routes, but what is the hype around this route?
Leicester to Sheffield would have made more sense, a driver wouldn't drive an HST just between Leicester and Derby. It will be nice to see the 158 in the sim though.
I am going to guess this route is the least finished as we only saw one screenshot. There clearly was another one Matt was expecting but we didn't see much at all.
it’s a repeat of GWE, a 30 mile route where we do 125 for a few minutes. They should’ve done it north of Derby to Sheffield or south of leicester to london
Yes I agree, Derby to Sheffield would have made more sense. I am more excited for the USA and German content than the UK content following this announcement. Both UK routes have odd start/end points.
A better thread has been started that actually has some info on the route, including what it actually is… https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/midland-mainline-leicester-to-derby-nottingham.64765/
It certainly looks interesting and I am looking forward to it as I get the train from near where I live to Leicester and then on the MML to Nottingham usually about once a month to watch the football so will hopefully be able to recognise bits and bobs of it.
seriously speaking i believe that the route will be good but length will be what reduces my overall rating tbh
Why not build Derby to Sheffield then like Just Trains did in the first iteration of MML, it just makes more sense to me at least. Both the UK routes are disappointing in their scope.
Actually, drivers regularly switch at Derby, although they would have probably driven from St Pancras.
EMT (thought we’d never see them in TSW), Class 158, VP 43, Nottingham & East Midlands Parkway. These are very ‘Midland’ bits, this is the type of stuff that I’ve been longing for in TSW - a true modern diesel route. I can’t wait to pull into EMD against the backdrop of the powerstation at sunset, then hear the VP roar along the 120mph racetrack to Leicester. Similarly running the 158 on a semi-fast into Nottingham will be just as good fun, a proper sprinter route. This will be so much more than GWE, that route is nothing more than a slap the HST into notch 5 and wait for 20 minutes until you need to brake experience. Then you can do the same in a 166 along the same arrow straight line. The start and end points are abit weird, but at least both trains will have more to do, the start and stop patterns of the HST whilst still being able to get it close to max speed will be a great new experience.
