After all these years. Extremely excited to see that the Class 158 is finally coming to Train Sim world. Perfect for livery designer (hope to see GWR livery made). I just hope that the sound will be accurate.
So what are your expectations on this one ? Mine are to introduce it in the quality of the cl.323, which is in my opinion a very high standard emu. The 158 is a dmu, so skyhooks biggest plus is, the units can be recorded & they still run.
Hoping we get an AI Scotrail one layered into Edin - Glas to populate some of the stations/ routes more!
If the sounds are up to scratch (it better have the hydraulic transmission whine when powering down!) then it'll be a day 1 purchase for me
The sounds and the physics need to be good. I.e. Not like the Rivet 150 and not ,like some of the hydraulic DMU's in TSC where intermediate steps on the throttle simply acted as an arcade like speed cap, even going downhill.
With the 166 networker on its current standard they have to raise the bar high. It features even local start from outside etc. Also vehicles improved when it comes to guard panels & pis.
I'd like to say it layered into London to Brighton: the liveries are similar enough for it to be used as an AI train at Clapham Junction.
I really hope they end up using the armstrong powerhouse variant, the sounds on their 158 are pretty much spot on
Skyhook. Only question is if they are going to be properly implemented. Their track history hasn't been the greatest in terms of sounds
Everything for the 158 to be modelled correctly in game exists (in all aspects), given that the last sprinter we had in TSW wasn’t great, Skyhook really need to not botch this one. Personally I’d rather JT or even DTG make this DLC, skyhook have a history already in TSW of doing poor routes & rolling stock, then going completely quiet.
The physics shouldn’t be a problem - take an exact copy of the class 166 setup and just make it a fraction quicker in acceleration. The 166 is beautiful drive.
Sound is key, there should be no excuses. When the sound does not seem right, I simply don't drive the route, it's one of the biggest immersion factors. I am sure the modelling will be great, but the sound should not be forgotten. It has to sound like a 158 - and not something that sounds a bit like one. Enough 'that'll do' approaches. Not to mention, AP has already gone to the effort for TSC...
The Cummins engines 158's also sounded slightly different to the Perkins variety. When Canton received the allocation of some former Central Trains green 158's when Wales & Borders took over the Cambrian these occasionally found their way onto my train home to Bridgend (!) and they had a lovely melodious purr. Different to the Perkins and much sweeter than the rather raw sound from the Cummins engines on the 150's, 153/155's and 156's.
The 158 should have the Cummins engine. Also hope the sounds are really good and AP Cummins sound is applied.
It still needs to be incorporated properly. By all accounts Rivet licensed AP sounds for the 150/2 and we all know how that ended up...
The physics was wrong. I've read it was set up as a diesel electric unit instead of diesel hydraulic. The 150 was a rocketship and got up to speed in no time which is totally incorrect for a sprinter. Wrong physics meant poor sounds. There is actually a 150 comparison video with ap in tsc and tsw which you can look up and watch. The revs were tied to the speed. The revs did not rev up high enough. Rivet then updated it which broke it again cuz it maxed out at notch 4 and caused noticeable looping. They fixed it again which improved it again, but the sounds are still really poor. The groan and metal grating sounds the unit makes is not great to listen to.
Well let’s hope the 158 is a great loco. I use scotrail 158s with Cummins engines and it’s great. I really hope they don’t mess it up. I’m sure we will all be disappointed if they do ruin it. Great opportunity. We can only hope.
Im sure skyhook manage to make a really stunning route. But im concerned about their past of rolling stock history. Just cant see my self enter the unit and get convinced with a "wow, they really made it". Im usually optimistic, but i didnt forget the 187, wrong placed bogies on the 44cw. The only chance that i can see this working is with dtgs strict help & quality control. Even if im hyped a little by the route, skyhook had the worst history of fixing their products. So do they think people just forget? Im holding 2 weeks after release until i decide to get it or not.
You must have watched the latest update then - it’s now way too slow between 30-50mph. As mentioned before. Rivet took a million years to take on board the feedback, tried to fix it, broke it even further by going the whole other end of the scale. Way too fast, now way too slow Is it too much to get it realistic ?
Its at the slower scale end yes, but i enjoy it this way. The rocket start broke the entire experience. Im ok with its current state, also using mods. I suggest rivet to produce a 150/1 and update the functioning guard panels and working local start buttons outside. Not every train has a second chance with an existing sister unit. There is even the 150/0 prototype unit. So in my opinion rivet should give it an other go and show that they are capable of making dmus.
Well let’s hope they learned from their mistakes. They can see we are very excited for it. So they should know that they can’t mess it up as we are expecting a really good dlc and a good quality loco. Il be quite annoyed if it’s not up to scratch.
