I think most of us are resigned to the fact that in all probability we will never see a full editor for TSW, however as a halfway house I really think a proper consist and timetable editor should be a priority for DTG. With the ability to upload to Creators club naturally. Personally I could spend hours with a downloaded route timetable, a copy of one of my European Timetable editions and an excel spreadsheet, tweaking and altering the existing timetable timings to add an extra service or 2, testing then tweaking and amending over and over again. Removing the TGV and ICE3 from Southeast High Speed would be a breeze for those of us whose immersion is destroyed seeing these services. Adding the London Victoria - Eastbourne services between Lewes & Eastbourne onto East Coastway or creating some local freight services onto Cajon or Horseshoe Curve, would all technically be possible with a decent editor, time and patience. So what's in it for DTG? Well, I'm glad you asked. Currently any loco DLC needs a decent home route and a good number of servicing layering in to the existing timetable, for it to be profitable. So for example the Amtrak P42DC or the ALC42 Charger along with long distance coaches (both superliners & the numerous single level coaches & sleepers) are never going to have enough services on a single route to justify their development (especially with the lack of Chicago Metra licenses), but with the ability for users to edit, upload their own timetables virtually overnight we'd see realistic Amtrak timetable services for SPG, HSC & Cajon pass (and for the none purists most likely Sherman Hill) which in turns create demands & ultimately sales for such locos without the need for DTG to invest time creating layers in timetables themselves. its not just new loco DLC which would see increase demand, existing loco DLCs would see an increase in sales (and thus profitability) if Joe (or Josie) Blogs could add a timetable layer for the Acela on Edinburgh Glasgow or LGV (not my cup of tea but they'll be some amongst us who would love the idea I'm sure), then there's the others who'd have no interest in purchasing a historic version of Linke Rheinstrecke, but give them the opportunity to purchase the route and download a modern day timetable from creators club and use their existing collection of German locos and straight away its another sale with no additional work required from DTG (well no extra work once they've created and released the editor, but you get the idea). The opportunities are endless and would create demand for standalone locos and even standalone wagons & coaches. A rake of pullman coaches or a nuclear flask wagon all become potential sellers for example.
I would love to see a timetable editor or creator. I would certainly be spending time working on the NTP route and creating a new diesel gala on the WSR. I think a consist editor is very much needed as it would make using reskins much more worthwhile. I could remove all the silly layers on WCL too.
I agree. This would allow players to get really creative with some services. It can allow players to remove some layers like the ice3m which don't belong on SEHS. I don't get why this hasn't been introduced in the game. The possibilities of a timetable editor are endless
I love the idea. The only problem I could see is with the previous gen consoles (too many different services causing memory issues and crashing consoles). If they did bring out some kind of timetable creator they could include some system to check and see if the timetable is likely to cause issues on previous gen consoles. I get the feeling that without this safety aspect Microsoft and Sony might have something top say about it.
Each route would have a maximum number of consist slots with a tick box for gen 8, you'd be able to change which consist slots where assigned to gen 8 but not increase over the maximum preset number of slots either in total or for gen 8. This would be route by route for example London Commuter might have 1 available spare slot overall (in reality it might actually have no available additional slots) but no additional gen 8 slot so if I wanted my new consist to appear on gen 8 I'd have to unselect am existing slot. These slots would also artificially limit the size of gen 8 trains for example if I created a 94 wagon us freight consist it would automatically reduce it down for gen 8.
