Yeah, including the Acela layer, which is a standalone purchase 18 euros...

Yeah, this and the "Sunnyside Yard is also included." sentence in the previous article were pretty funny. The latter is pretty out of place and felt unnatural. I think it was put in as a joke after all the "IS SUNNYSIDE YARD INCLUDED???" question they got, lol.

"Sorry, the cab car has no controls, just a folding chair for you to sit while the AI drives. We ran out of time"
    (sarcasm)

I don't know, this whole release is sending some weird, shady vibes IMO that isn't helping my general decreasing trust of DTG. (not just NYT, but the extremely overpriced livery pack for SMH too, the bundle decisions, etc). The previous 13 pages of posts highlight some major flaws of NYT (while repetitive, but DTG says they like repetitiveness so...), I don't have high hopes for this route. I'm sure some will enjoy it for what it offers, but I think at least for me a heavy discount in a future sale and a good wow factor next week will be required to pick this up. The only thing I think saving the Acela is that cactusjuice has said he's beta tested it (I think), but I'm still waiting for reviews for that too.

This is frankly embarrassing from Dovetail. The recent releases haven't been without flaws, but we could at least count on them having as full timetables as possible (within the boundaries of the included stock). For them to not include ALP46s from other lines that may use them is baffling, and really has me wondering where did they spend all of that development time? It's clear that they simply reused entire segments from the older routes (from Sunnyside to maybe Trenton with seemingly no updates to the NYC skyline either), and it seems like there has been no innovation unlike Rivet Games who have experimented with a rudimentary form of passenger announcements and more detailed station buildings. This looks like another generic Dovetail release, so I want to understand what happened?

It seems that they have been coasting on pre orders because there really is no explanation for this downgrade in timetable and lack of layers. I personally find this unacceptable, so I will be skipping this route until it is on deep discount, otherwise you're sending them a message that shortcuts are perfectly fine.

Regarding the lackluster timetable, I find it funny that the original NEC: New York route from 2018 had 135 Amtrak passenger services, and that was only a 32 mile long route, without the cab car DLC. In comparison, this new route has 123 Amtrak services for an 58 mile long route.

Now sure, this route will have the NJT traffic and the Amtrak, but the latter is a standalone add-on. On the other hand the old NEC route also had some freight traffic going on for it. But anyway, for now I was only comparing the Amtrak services. Of course numbers alone also don't mean much, as I don't know if the old NEC: New York route also had simply A to B services similar to the new route, or something more complicated as well.

Anyway, I just found it interesting. I am really interested in seeing how these numbers look like in practice during a timetable service. Will it be acceptable, or another graveyard like LIRR was? Busy in scenarios, but quiet in timetable mode?

Not sure about the 15 miles part. Seems longer to me. I’d rather not have a route to or through Philly without septa.

if they do Trenton to Wilmington de which is the other terminating point for septa on the nec …. With a real timetable … would be fun

Very very few. These used to be Hoboken express trains from New York to bayhead than ran diesel also Called the diesel express.

then they scrapped the diesels for the 45s

if they run any direct trains from ny Penn to bayhead it’s less than 5 a day in each direction and go all the way through

most times when you leave ny Penn to bayhead the shuttle train from long branch to bay head will be waiting probably with a 45

most if not all njcl trains going to or from ny Penn will tie down in long branch and at least can run the 46s I see them all the time

A better analysis are ny Penn to Newark

without broad st you can’t factor in Dover express and Morristown trains which make stops in secaucus whereas all the trains stop in Newark

point is even without the Dover express and Morristown trains the list will be even longer

I wonder if the pre Covid timetable had more Amtrak trains or if there were moves into and out of sunny side it should be at least as many now. Seeing the list it looks like the mainline trains are close to real world 2022 schedule

I am a bit confused by some of the language in the article.
    First, it's this:
By my calculation, there are 3 (three) new add-ons arriving on TSW3: Trenton, Acela and the UP Heritage pack. Hardly the stuff worth two articles filled with exclamation marks, in my opinion.

    And then, this:
Maybe I don't understand the terms, but what's the difference between 289 services and extensive 24-hour Timetable. Isn't the timetable made up of services? Because the phrasing suggests that we get services and a timetable.

As much as I'd love an update like that... it's not going to happen. Although maybe in the distant future it will, but it'll be in a v2 of the route where you have to buy it all again, or maybe if they ever start looking into paid route expansions... Either way, as much as I want that, DTG isn't going to update the route like, at least not for free.

Definitely seems like the PR talk speaking there. If the service count was much higher and more realistic, they wouldn't need to say "and an extensive timetable", as of which, it is far from extensive when you only have a fraction of the NJT services, as of which, should be the main attraction of this DLC in the first place since we've never had them in TSW before.

It's like the Rockstar newswire articles for GTA Online. For every update, they used to write short articles with what is being added, and these articles usually consisted of listing every single addition, then putting "and much more!" to the end of it. Of course, there weren't much more. It just makes it seem like there are more stuff than there really is. Quite lame.

It's typical PR or " Sales talk "which, as a commercial company, they have every right to publish.

Anyway if you count the 6 reskins, 2 new locos, 1 new and 2 updated routes, you could loosely describe that as " loads ".

Picky, picky. ;) Yes, of course they're the same thing. Again, someone in the PR/sales department writes that stuff. I think you know this, right? Or don't you watch TV, read the papers and magazines. Exaggeration and hyperbole are normal advertising techniques.

I'm as critical of DTG as anyone, but not just for its own sake. They have a right to operate like any for-profit entity. I can read between the lines and I'm sure we all can.

Finally got to sit down and peek at the new blog post release today. Can't lie I hollered reading the "extensive" timetable bit... that was brave of them to write. Just gonna assume it was written way before this thread was created lol

I never want to wish anyone anything bad but I fear if
You are correct. I think once all the services that could have been included (with AI )with the amount of passenger services that we actually getting, the percentage is even lower….. around 20 to 25 % of the NJT service is what is represented in this DLC.

It's almost like they only did this route for Amtrak and someone suggested they throw in NJT later because they had the license, adds a bit of diversity, and the ALP-46 is similar to the BR101 so it'd be easy to do it.

NJT's Push Pull trains use cab cars in both directions, unlike MBTA for instance. NJT loops a good bit of their trains, so not all of them face the same direction.

A whole lot of those Amtrak services in the NEC New York route were bogus stand-ins for commuter trains, though.

With the ALP-46 and Multilevels, they could eventually add layers for 32xx and 35xx Coast Line trains, and this would be my first choice as it would provide a lot more local service on the northern end of the modeled route (as far as Rahway). The 33xx one-seat-ride Bay Head trains (three daily roundtrips during peak hours) are the only ones that require the dual-mode locomotives. Similarly, they could layer in the 62xx/63xx/66xx Morristown/Boonton trains that diverge from the NEC at Swift and head to Newark Broad Street. All of the above services use ALP-46 and ALP-45DP (in electric mode) locomotives with Multilevels or Comets interchangeably. If down the road DTG models the ALP-45DP for TSW, that would allow the further layering of Raritan Valley services (54xx and 57xx which terminate in Newark Penn and 51xx which provide through service to New York Penn). Arrow III MUs could also provide service on the NEC to Jersey Avenue and Trenton (I don't believe they ever run on the 39xx Trenton expresses, though), and the 35xx Coast Line trains which originate/terminate in South Amboy. The Arrows no longer have the capability of service to Long Branch, and have never been able to negotiate the voltage change between the NEC and the Morris & Essex lines.

Imagine if we get an expansion pack with a sales pitch of " this is more of what we wanted to do at launch but couldn't" and we got a 5 new same scenarios and we all paid £15 for it.

Double bubble and NYC becomes a £45 dlc........ you can see it coming already

Matt said and I quote "You got the ALP-46 with the double decker coaches & the cab car" in the Roadmap Video from Feb 5, 2023, around the 10:24 mark. I'm interested to see how it looks in the game, but I'm hopeful it's there.

I would hope the cab car is operable. It would be with all due respect, asinine to include a non playable cab car on a playable push pull train.

Ah SWIFT! That's it. I forgot the name of the interlocking that the MidTown Direct trains use. Thanks for the refresher.

It's not beyond the realms of possibility. However, more likely is a whole new dlc based entirely on one or more NJT lines as in TSC. Might as well use the license.

Also, albeit not being 100% about this route, the Dovetail article on the DLC today featured a podcast.
On the podcast was Jim Rooney, an NJT Engineer with 40 years of experience, a lot of which is on the Raritan Valley Line (RVL).

It's a good listen. Just highlighting that because I see a few people speaking about the RVL in this thread, most notably driverwoods#1787.
They weren't speaking about the game. But I think it's a good listen for those interested. Just putting that out there.

Seems silly to add comments to this thread with how long it has gotten, anyways I echo everyone's concerns and criticisms. I am super bummed by the lack of total services and AI services. I have never really spent much time around the NEC but I know how frustrating it is to have a local route you have loved all your life not live up to expectations.
I grew up going to Cajon pass and the Needles Sub all the time so when that route released without any UP drivable services that was a huge bummer as it really would've added a lot to the route in my opinion. Additionally some of the weird pathing where track 2 is almost completely unused in the pass.
It would have been sweet if they really would've turned NYC into the hub of American Passenger trains that it is in real life with this route. It was a pipe dream but honestly would've been really cool if they did something like the updated SEHS and included some of the Raritan line with the dual mode locomotive. That and a bolstered timeline would have probably put this up there in the same elite tier category as BML and SEHS in my opinion. I get that the turn and burn for getting content out is business driven and DTG employees need to feed their families, but just for once it would be nice to have one US route rise to the elite tier of routes in the game so the lovers of US content had something to really cherish. It's hard to compare some of the US routes to German and UK because we have a lot less trains that overlap various routes like they do, but I was hoping that this route would be the start of that since half of the rolling stock coming with the route are already in the game. Still looking forward to playing because I enjoy this game a lot, but holding out hope for some good updates and maybe a really good US route at the release point one day! Ha!

Yep. The majority of NJCL trains from NYP terminate at Long Branch and then there's a diesel shuttle from Long Branch to Bay Head.

Many moons ago there were also Diesel Express trains that ran on the NECL. I think one originated at Hoboken and another at Newark Penn, they both ran to Trenton. Here's a photo of one, the locomotive is a GP40FH-2. I don't even think they exist anymore.
The service is abolished too, there's no need for it.

MACTRAXX gives some good insight on it in this Railroad.Net thread. Yes it's outdated, no I don't expect for DTG to create this.
It's just some cool background info imo.

I don’t recall the diesel express ever going to Trenton or originating from Newark they had 2-3 going to Hoboken from bay head in the morning and then the same sets would run back in the evening rush. Before 9/11 I rode them frequently ferry to downtown was much better then the path to World Trade Center

This is certainly not a day one purchase for me. It’ll have to be heavily discounted along with the past 3 big releases. At £30 a pop, that’s £120 they could have had off me - they would have got that in the past. They’ll be lucky to maybe get 1/2 of that from me now.

Way back when (like I think the 1990s actually), they did have a diesel express that went from Trenton to Newark. If I’m not mistaken it was 1 trip up and 1 trip down.
Yeah that service officially ended back in 2018. At least the remnants of it. The train was no more than 4 cars I think and no one really took it.

I won't get into the business aspects of why I think they are doing what they are doing, but this seems far from a labor of love.

I am surprised how the lack of the Morrisville yard doesn't gets talked about much. When I saw them announce the route, I figured we'd get a Sunnyside copied from the original NEC route or LIRR, that's easy for DTG. I was also hoping we'd get the Morrisville yard, a measly 2 miles south of Trenton. They didn't even have to include the Conrail portions further down. Seems like that's all lacking though.

That's how I know this route is a joke to DTG. What I see happening though is in some TSW4, they extend it to 30th Street and resell it. It won't happen until they get Septa licensing, but I can see them reusing the ACS-64 with Septa Comet cars if they are able to pull that off, no Silverliners.

I'm referring to Trenton Diesel Expresses, not NJCL Diesel Expresses. The Trenton / NECL (Northeast Corridor Line) Diesel Expresses were discontinued over 20 years ago, sometime in the 1990s. From what I hear, they were rather limited, only a few trips during Mon-Fri.
I never rode or even saw them in person, but they seemed to exist.
Here are two photos, both at Trenton:

These aren't the AC Line Deadheads. I wish there were videos of these somewhere.
If I'm wrong, I'm wrong. But this does seem legit to me.

Yeah... I wouldn't even be surprised at this point. While I know nothing drastic will be done with LIRR now, I have a small bit of hope that DTG will hopefully notice how much their laziness is costing them on this route and hopefully fix it post launch. But that remains to be seen, and they could easily just leave it. Then maybe when TSW 4 releases, they won't be able to port the route over for "technical reasons" and will "remake" it for a TSW 4 DLC, and then sell it to us again for a 3rd time. Only time will tell...

I only want TSW and DTG to do well, but it's like even DTG have given up on that at this point. They made 0 effort to address the issues in today's article, and even linked here to the timetable breakdown which is just hilariously ironic given they're trying to sell people this route. And at this point, given we've seen nothing on the NJT Multilevel cab car, it may as well not exist for all we know.

I'm going to stop typing now, cause I could rant for hours at this point given how many issues this route has...

Oh wow. I didn't know the shuttles were discontinued! I haven't been on a NJCL train a day in my life.
I just know about them from photos, threads & YouTube videos. I do remember them being short though.
Times have most definitely changed. Thanks for the info.

This can be said for a lot of their recent releases, they aren't going to fix much post launch. They rather want to see how low they can set the bar, and still make the margins and sales they are targeting. Maybe we eventually get better timetables, but that's the furthest I see them going with this.

Oh no the shuttles still exist. It’s the direct Bay Head to Hoboken trains that are gone. Matter of fact, ALL of the NJCL’s Hoboken service is gone. Pandemic was the nail in the coffin for it.

Yeah, hence why I said it's a small bit of hope. I just struggle to see it either. I'd love to be proven wrong by DTG and I hope they do, but as you said, recent releases just say otherwise.

It's amazing to think that DTG had taken the pres crew in a more general direction, one where they could be more pro-active on fixing issues post launch and quickly, still doing some upgrades, and helping 3rd parties with releases, yet, we've had routes release with major issues that are still unfixed, upgrades that actually are happening luckily, but more as incentive to buy new DLC on those routes (don't get me wrong, I really appreciate the upgrades DTG have done, so this is isn't quite the criticism it may seem, as the upgrades do have to be funded ofc), and Rivet have just released their worst route since West Cornwall local...

I agree completely with this. I’m not sure but It seems the US player is a small portion of their player base. Hence why we get the routes that we get. Harlem line to white plains and NEC NY-Trenton that doesn’t represent the true NEC. I’m afraid this trend will continue and will actually get worse especially for the US player. Don’t expect any meaningful updates once this route comes out. Once they have your funds they would have no reason to.Just look at their history. Harlem line still has red light issues that were never fix.

The disappointment at the omission of Morrisville Yard was mentioned a few times. Even I chimed in, agreeing that it should've been included.
But I concur, it got buried underneath the comments about layers and virtually everything else.

The PHI - TRE stretch in my opinion would be worthwhile if DTG at LEAST includes Suburban Station for SEPTA. The PHI - TRE stretch, outside of Zoo Interlocking isn't as exciting as TRE - NYP in my opinion. That said, there is a good deal of opportunity to make it cool. They could incorporate Race Street Yard, maybe a small portion of the Keystone Corridor, who knows.

Do you mean recreating that section of TSC NYC to Philly for TSW 3? That needs ACS-64 SEPTA and comet II-IV MLV IIIs CRRC Double Deckers. German-speaking TSW 3 Community Doppelstockwagen abbreviation Dosto to describe MLV III CRRC Changchun Sifang Dailan coaches SEPTA. CRRC Changchun Qingdao Dailan SEPTA double-deckers are the 2400s. This means ACS-64 901 915 reskinned from ACS-64 600-670 in typical DTG fashion can pull them or get a SEPTA Reskinned NJ Transit MLV III power car to run them as a combined train from a 2018 order.

Which service ended in 2018? The long branch to bay head shuttle? It still runs to this day. It is roughly 4 cars but it’s widely used if not crammed wall to wall like the trains to the city are

Been awhile that I took the train to Hoboken. That was nice I would get on in Bradley beach and have a car mostly to myself by the time I woke up in Newark it was standing room only and then a few of us went to Hoboken then I’d take the ferry to wfc

coming back I’d get in the empty train in Hoboken at Newark it would be sro to matawan and then empty again by long branch

Yes & No. I'm not all for that route, but I understand there's a demand for it.
Not to diverge too far from the topic of this thread, I'll just address a few points:
    1. DTG doesn't have the SEPTA license yet. So it's unlikely this will happen any time soon.
    2. 99% of Amtrak trains run non-stop between PHI & TRE.
    3. If the route was built, it would likely ONLY be Amtrak & SEPTA. No NJT AC Line, or NJT at all for that matter.
    4. I mentioned this to you before, I doubt DTG will make Comet IIMs, IVs & Vs. I have yet to see a mixed US passenger consist in TSW.
The only solid consists NJT consistently runs on the NEC are Arrow IIIs & Multilevels.
    5. SEPTA has yet to put any Bi-Level coaches in service. I'm not 100% sure if SEPTA has them yet.
I know they exist, but I'm not sure if SEPTA received the cars from the manufacturer yet.
    6. I'm not sure if any of the ML IIIs have been built yet. DTG tends to focus on existing rolling stock, not planned rolling stock.
    7. DTG is more likely to create the rolling stock than reskin them. Reskinning is typically a user / player thing on an individual level.

Here’s what I mentioned on the another thread…….If after they confirm the amount of total services which is 289, of which 101 are yard services,of which NJT has 82 total passenger services, no LIRR, no freight, re used scenery, has a stream the day before launch that will show 5 new locos(including the cab cars), 1 new route NEC NY-Trenton, Boston with new lighting and signaling, Sherman hill with new lighting, 6 new redskins, launch a article that says nothing new and doesn't even contain any new content, have a link on the article to the thread highlighting the shortcomings of this route, plus then promote to buy LIRR and M3 on the same article when you are not including it on the time table, if after all that they manage to make good sales on the this, I will tip my hat to them and know that all bets are off and any hope of the future content quality, amount of services, will just be that a thing of the past. This is my opinion based on previous US content. I would love to buy this DLC, but in its current state there’s no way. What message does that say if I just blindly buy it. Once the route is a the state that it should be then it will be purchased. Until then my money will stay with me.

In the '90s there were a few NEC diesel expresses to Newark, but I don't think they ever went to Hoboken. Growing up in NJ I sang in church choir with a Transit engineer and he had a job that took a diesel consist out from the MMC to Trenton, but then ran non-revenue up to Princeton Junction, then revenue to Newark and back to the MMC.

Prior to the delivery of the ALP-45DP locomotives, there were a handful of diesel-powered 26xx Bay Head-Hoboken turns which always ran express on the NEC between Newark and Woodbridge. I know the PM outbound trains would often use Track 2 at Newark Penn and then run "wrong-rail" down 2 as far as Union (a practice dating back decades). After the dual-modes, the Hoboken trains became 23xx-series expresses that used electric locomotives and terminated in Long Branch. These lasted until the pandemic, as mentioned.

After reading a few of these threads on the forum a few thoughts come to mind:

    • take a breath…the actual details of the route still need to be revealed by Dovetail. Some snipits have been released but there’s way too much speculation out there.
    • There’s a good amount of services. A full run from NY Penn to Trenton is over an hour. That’s a hole lot of time…if there members that want more services you all must have a ton of [Removed - Alex - Inappropriate Language] time on your hands.
    • If you’re not happy with Dovetail…don’t buy the route. Go play MindCraft. Or even better get a job with Dovetail and see what goes into make a route along with new train stock.
    • There’s way to many members putting waaaayyyy to much thought into this buy the route and enjoy for what it is worth. If not don’t.
