Amtrak P42 Enhancement Pack Recommendation

A bit confused about what went wrong with the recently announced but now seemingly dead new P40DC DLC, I want to recommend this brilliant Enhancement pack from TruRail Simulations - a Phase III repaint is available - which I've discovered on Schnauzahpowahz' YT channel.

Top quality, the free P42 enhancement pack is awesome. So I'm not really missing or needing the ill-fated DLC. Fabulous stuff for free out there!

It is kind of sad how freeware packs like this exist, while developers like DTM continues to make shovelware content that is no where close to being quality and asking money for it.

"...now seemingly dead new P40DC DLC"

Did DTG actually cancel the release?

Somehow, yes, but then isn't it great there's stuff like this out there? And it's the customer who's in control - generally don't buy crap and support freeware devs with donations.

Hopefully the issues with the P40DC that was supposed to release gets corrected. The good thing is, we have mods and enhancement packs to improve the quality, sounds, and physics of existing DLC's.

But you can't fix an incorrect model.

It's good to see that trolling is still alive and well on the forums.

Although Scottish, I now live in the USA. I would like to invest more in US DLC however it is very sporadic. Would love to be able to run the Texas Eagle from Chicago all the way to San Antonio. Other full Amtrak routes would be fantastic. Sadly this is only a dream. Most of the US DLC is rather spotty. I am content to build up my UK portfolio and reminisce (hence my UK web site). Maybe when I retire I may build my own North/South track to achieve this dream.

By any chance, where would I be able to find the GeoPCDX files? I downloaded the freeware pack but it seems the GeoPCDX file is not there when I use 7-Zip

If you are talking about the Retro Genesis pack mentioned above the GeoPcDx file is in the base locos for this pack.

If you read the info in that pack
    Installation instructions:

    1. Unzip the Contents of "Retro_Genesis_Pack.zip" to an easily accesible place.
    2. Drop the Assets folder into your main Railworks folder usually found here: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\RailWorks
    3. Execute InstallMe.bat inside of your Assets folder.
    And you're done!

How is it trolling when the freeware stuff is BETTER than payware content on the steam store?

Oh didn't you know, when someone posts a comment on the internet that someone else doesn't like or agree with it's now called "trolling", best thing is 99% of the people who call out "trolling" don't even know what it actually means.. lolol

Funny you should say that, I'd say its more of a troll to be defending one of the most broken releases in TS but here we are. :)

Thanks for letting me know. It appears I may have confused the TruRail simulations P40 for the Retro Genesis Pack. I believe I installed them correctly now. The only problem is, when trying to create a custom consist in Train Simulator, it crashes after reaching 41%. I have also tried creating consists via consist editor in RWEnhancer2 but am unable to save them. Even though the consist viewer shows the consist, the save button is greyed out and I cannot proceed. This occurs for any locomotive/wagon. Has anyone encountered this? It appears with these 2 issues, creating custom consists will not be possible.

I have found the consist creator breaks entirely when your collection is large enough. From what it seems, every train you own is loaded into memory. Fine if you only have a few trains, but my Train Simulator installation is 360GB - doesn't fit very well in 16GB of RAM.

You need to give the consist a name before you can save it..

    Trolling?

We're criticizing an incorrect model which has wrong dimensions, sound issues and other faults already mentioned - I think as you have not made a technical comment concerning any of the issues, you're just here because of unconditional loyalty to DTM, defending everything he's releasing no matter what the quality is.

This is payware - we've every right to be critical.

Great, thank you for helping me with this. I went back and carefully read the read me file. I was able to use 7zip to get the GeoPCDX files via accessing the AP files. The TruRail P42 works now and I must say, this enhancement pack breathes new life into the older RSC P42 locomotive

The quality of the front of the DTM train is…astounding:

I mean as also a British player it happens with most trains - the 700 is a good example as there was a freeware version with debatable better everything- but I suppose for American fans it becomes an even worse issue as there isn't any form of AP for America other then really strong fans.

No, the freeware pack from UTS on the older RSC Empire Builder p42DC is more accurate than DTMs model that is $20.

My bad. I thought the loco on the left was the new release and the one on the right was the old version - Doh!

Not just you Peter, it's the way it was presented, it should have been the new on the left and the old on the right imo.

Not that it matters just that's how my brain deciphered it initially too.

Might be related to the British way of going left? (Or some languages.)
Because for me it's 100% logical this way. I read left to right, old to new.
    Just curiosity!
(In a game a South African friend made a point noticing that I always took the right corridor while they took the left. Must be funny when I visit the UK and I keep to the right to let people pass normally :D)

    Hi all,
I've substituted the TruRail P42 in the Empire Builder consist from the P42Pack, which by the way is excellent, however, I'm not getting any taillights illuminated on the rear Superliners, anybody else find this, do I need an updated script or something for the Superliners?

For an additional test I substituted the TruRail P42s into the Miami Silver Star consist and that has no taillights, just a little puzzled here.

    Cheers,
    Steve

Maybe they require light flares to be enabled?

Thanks, light flares are on, the taillights worked with the original P42, it seems as if there is no signal/script from the TruRail unit to turn on the lights at the end of the consist

I'm happy this exists but, I just wish there was a company like AP that made enhancement packs for US locos. I mostly drive stuff from the UK anyway, however being from the US I sometimes want to drive something from here, but most of the stuff is outdated and only has the very basic systems.

There's a lot of enhancements for free out there, next to TruRail and Searchlight Sim (who is now developing for SimRail).

Thanks, my intention wasn't to imply there weren't any enhancements for US locos, just that there does seem to be as many as there are for stuff from the UK, but maybe I'm wrong.

UK is the cradle of railroading. In the US it's less popular overall, I think.

I think it's less that railroads are less popular in the US (which is true but shouldn't matter much given the population difference) and more that TS1 is less popular in the US, trainz is (for some reason) quite popular here, run8 and open rails also have large followings as well, where as for a long time if you wanted a uk train sim the only popular option was ts1

Sorry for the late reply. So I was taking a look at the link you sent, but I can't see where it says what features the enactment pack makes to the P42 other than outside textures. I looked on YouTube and see something from a company from Tru Rail, but not sure if that's the same thing or which is better.

    Thanks
