I hope this is the correct place for this, but something odd happened today.
I was about half way through a scenario in TSW2 Sand Patch Grade.I was tasked to couple with a seven car formation.
As my formation literally bounced off the parked formation, failing to couple, the marker told me the formation I had just bounced off was 98 yards away (see screen shot). The tank car is the last car of my formation, trying to couple with the box car to it's right. I could not complete the task so I'm in a no mans land!
Any thoughts on how to complete this task?

The distance is always from the drivers cab not the end of the train, make sure your coupler is open on at least one of the 2 cars you want to couple and it will couple up just fine

Because the distance shown is the straight line length between the cab and the place of interest, so in this case it means the cab is 98 yards away from the tank cars, not the end of the loco. In this kind of scenario you need to always tap 2 or 3 key twice, jump to the end of your consist, and control the speed to couple the cars.

Click on this at the end of the wagon to open the couple, they come in a variety of shapes but are always to the left of the wagon as you look towards it.

Excellent point redrev. So often on Sand Patch I've encountered 'closed' couplers, to the point where I tend to stop a couple of yards away, go and check the coupler is open, and then couple.

  6. The best way is to work out the length of your train before the manoeuvre. Then you can pull up to the wagons stop a few feet or yards away, check everything is good to go and couple.
I've noticed on some services there's a rake of wagons of equal length in a adjacent siding to use for reference.
In the real world you would have a second man on the radio to tell you to stop.

I represent this by positioning the 3 camera on the lead car's platform or ladder, as if it were a brakeman.
